Nestled in Greenbank, Washington, Fern Gully, is an old horse farm that has been transformed into a Hip Camp. We’re delighted to welcome you back to our farm in 2025! We have installed new signage to facilitate site identification. Many of you were familiar with my sister, Morgan. She has recently relocated to Texas. My name is Erin. My boyfriend, Dave, and I reside in the farmhouse. My mother, Lauren, also makes her home here. We have discovered several exceptional camping spots on our 15-acre property. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest or lounge in our stargazing hammock circle. During the summer months, from July to September, our farm will be ablaze with seasonal fruit, including blackberries, cherries, apples, and salmonberries. Our expansive fields and wooded surroundings are also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barn swallows, quail, and their offspring. Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat. We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. We derive immense satisfaction from meeting new individuals and have numerous recommendations for Whidbey Island, including the delectable blueberry stand in Freeland and the Mutiny Bay Blues, a venue that we can either recommend or provide directions to. We eagerly anticipate your visit. Fern Gully is conveniently located just a two-minute drive from the charming Greenbank Pantry. Where you can indulge in delectable sandwiches and quench your thirst with refreshing Topo Chico or a bottle of wine. For a scenic excursion, venture to South Whidbey State Park, a six-minute drive away. Where you can embark on exhilarating hiking trails along the breathtaking coastline. Lagoon Point County Park, a mere five-minute drive from Fern Gully, presents an ideal destination for fishing and whale watching. Greenbank Farm, a consistently exceptional destination, is conveniently accessible via a four-minute drive along Washington State Highway 525.

Campsite #1 is located between one of our grazing pastures and the Alder woods. This campsite is an easy spot to pitch a tent and has enough parking for 2 cars. Enjoy the plethora of seasonal wild berries and watch the deer stroll through this site. This site does have a path that can be used to connect to site 5 through the woods. Both sites can be booked if a second site is needed for a large group. Parking at this site is found to the right of the hammock circle and up the grass hill to the right of the pasture. The fire ring and table are hidding in the trees at the end of the pasture fence.

Site 4 - Fern Gully

Campsite #4 is very private and separated from sites 2 and 3 by forest and a gully. If you have a small car that doesn't handle a grass hill, you may want to park and hike up to your site. It's about 200 ft of an uphill hike to a flat forest at the top. This site is tucked into some gorgeous woods, back away from an overgrown pasture. This site is pretty far from the Porta-Potty, water spigot, and bathhouse (soaking tub) Parking for this site is to the left of fence from camp site. You will turn left , just after my mom's trailer and what I like to call the 'civil war fence'. You will then follow the grass road up into the large upper pasture, and all the way to the back right corner. Sorry about the 'creepy' looking horse structure, we are going to do something really cool with them in the future. You will see a small '4' sign on the fence and that is where you can walk into the site.

Campsite #2 is hugging the edge of the towering Evergreen forest but is just enough outside of the tree line that you can enjoy the sun and look over the farmhouse and land. There are plenty of native Pie Berries and Salmon Berries during the early summer months and large blackberries later in the summer. Parking for site 2 is past the hammock circle and up the left side of the pasture. once you get to the top, you will see your fire ring and table. Parking for site 3 is also very close to site 2 so just keep that in mind when parking so other cars can pass by.

Campsite #3 is a walk in site. Be prepared to carry your gear in. We also have a wagon that can be borrowed. This site is extremely private and peaceful . Rest in the hammock among the moss and birds in several acres of beautifully wooded land. The walk-in does have a small hill down and back up, but nothing intense. At this campsite, you are most likely to see Great Horned Owls or other forest-dwelling friends. This is the furthest from the port-potty and bath house, but it feels like your miles away from civilization.

This is one of our best sites. It is also a walk in spot. Tucked in the woods, surrounded by beautiful tall trees. Camp site 5 is a walk in site. Be prepared to carry all your gear, or borrow our wagon to tote your camping paraphernalia to the site. Plenty of room for multiple tents. You wont be disappointed by this camp site! Parking for site 5... when you pull down the driveway all the way back past the garage and barns you will see a big flat field to your right. (It's the field behind the garage). . So, once you turn right into the flat field you will head all the way to the furthest corner, passed the travel trailer. You will see the sign for 5 and see lighted path. Please park there and walk the path, over the stream, and around a turn into the woods. Please feel free to message through Hipcamp if you have any questions at any time while staying on the property.

Site 6 is situated in a vast, open field, making it ideal for camper vans or RVs for dry camping. It’s conveniently located near the port-a-potty and bathroom facilities. Had a great experience camping in the field. Beautiful views of forest and stars. Easy to access and enough space between sights. Bathroom was clean and not smelly. I also appreciated the signage as it made it easy to find the spot when phone coverage was spotty.

High Tide Hideout
This was the perfect getaway for a last minute trip to Whidbey. Very quiet and secluded. We were going to a grad party after our stay so wanted to get cleaned up. The shower was hot and the bath area was private and clean. Erin was kind to run an extension cord out there so we could blow dry our hair! She is a wonderful host!

Site 4 - Fern Gully
Other than site #4 being genuinely private, the property wasn't what was represented in the listing. The grounds are much more rundown than the photos suggest, and several of the amenities we were looking forward to either weren't available or didn't appear to be functional, including the communal kitchen, covered eating area, the "Mr. Meowza Canteen," and the donkeys. Aside from the bathtub shower, most of the outbuildings didn't seem usable. The single porta-potty serving the entire campground also wasn't ideal. Fortunately, we were the only campers during our stay, so it wasn't a major issue, but it could be if the campground were full. The stargazing hammocks are a nice idea, but when we went to use them we were greeted by an aggressive dog, so we decided to head back to our campsite instead. For a property that advertises itself as off-leash friendly, having a dog that makes guests feel unwelcome was disappointing. Overall, if you're simply looking for a private campsite, site #4 delivers. But if you're booking because of the amenities shown in the listing, you may find the experience doesn't match the expectations that are set

Site 4 - Fern Gully
Tucked into the trees with the faeries and ferns on the back of the property is the magical site 4. Very private, away from the other sites. We had the most wonderful time. So did our border collie! Little did we know just a few steps away from the site is an open field we were able to park our jeep there so our stuff was very accessible and throw sticks for hours there. There’s also a honey bucket in the field also in immaculate condition I was shocked. A little community area with a fire pit and an old horse barn turned into a hang out spot with lights and a table and chairs. we actually mistook it for site 4 for a second it’s so nice and had to move our tent after we explored and found the real site 4 LOL Any way We had a midnight snack in the covered area and watched the rain in there it was awesome. Watched the sunset in the hammocks. We loved it🫶

Site 5 - Fern Gully
We loved our tent camping stay at Fern Gully site 5! While there were other campsites there, the walk in location of site 5 felt peaceful and private, surrounded by trees. The hosts were awesome, very communicative and attentive without being disruptive. The location was great and the Fern Gully amenities- including the loaner wagon for schlepping our stuff to the site were also very good. I recommend this camp site and look forward to camping there again!

Site 1 - Fern Gully
I loved how secluded the site was. Site one was by the end of the fence with a portion covered with trees. The fire pit was within the trees and the heat for the fire didn’t dissipate as it would it the pit was out in the open. So it made it comfy. The bathroom was a small walk away but the bathtub was beautiful. I loved it ! Oo the hammocks were great for just lounging and sky/star gazing.

Erin and her crew were very responsive, inviting and super friendly. The property is beautiful and in a great location, central to many fun spots on Whidbey. Site #6 is the least private, but that wasn't a big issue. There was a crazy infestation of black slugs the first night, but after that they seemed to stay in the forest. They were cute, we just didn't wanna step on them. I was under the impression that the toilets would be compost, rather than a single port-a-john for multiple sites, which is just not super pleasant to share with most of the campers. There were kids and teens using the single bathroom for long periods of time, which made snagging a shower, or even washing your hands post-toilet strategic. The shower was definitely not hot and pretty uncomfortable the two times I used it, but our friend reported that the water WAS warm in the daytime, so day showers are likely the way to go. We loved that dogs were allowed to roam off leash throughout their property, that was a HUGE plus. This isn't really about the property itself because there are no fireworks allowed on site, but we were kind of hoping that the fireworks for July 4 on the island as a whole would be a little subdued compared to the mainland. We couldn't have been more wrong. The neighbors went nuts with the fireworks until nearly 2am. On the whole, it was a pleasant stay, but improvements to the toilet and shower situations would make it really awesome.

My wife and I loved site 3. It is very secluded and only a short walk from where you leave your car. There is a great hammock to relax in as well as a standing fireplace to have a campfire. We found a good spot for our tent and enjoyed being back at the site. My only recommendation would be to make sure to store your trash securely! My wife and I had a trash bag hung up off the ground and either some critters or the nearby camper’s roaming dog got into it. Obviously we learned to store it securely but make sure you do that in advance. Otherwise, it was a great experience. The property was beautiful and extremely easy to find with the signage. The host, Erin, was prompt in responses and made sure to check in on us to make sure everything was going smoothly. This is a great spot to explore Whidbey Island as well because it is right in the middle of island. It makes it very easy to explore the North and South! Also, make sure to checkout the Greenbank Pantry nearby! Incredible sandwiches

Erin was extremely responsive when we had questions or concerns. The site itself was well-maintained and in a lovely wooded setting. The hipcamp is located near many points of interest on Whidbey Island which was very convenient. Overall, it was a bit less private than we were hoping for but a great place to stay on Whidbey.

Site #1 was secluded and a great spot for camping! Was a nice surprise to have a big table and chairs already at the site, along with a great fire pit! The hammock circle was lovely and the porta potty was super clean. Would definitely recommend and stay again :) Thanks Erin for a wonderful stay!

Campsite #4 was fantastic! It was nicely shaded with easy access to a beautiful sunny meadow nearby. Surrounded by trees, it felt very secluded and peaceful, with birds singing throughout the day and incredible star views at night. The hosts were awesome—friendly, caring, and made us feel very welcome. The drive in was easy, even with my little Honda Fit pulling a small trailer. There were some mosquitoes, but that’s part of camping and wasn’t a big deal since we always bring a few mosquito deterrents with us. We’ll definitely be back to spend more time here. Highly recommended!

Site 6 was perfect for our trip! The hosts were super friendly and accommodating, bringing us extra chairs, a grill, and other niceties. This is a beautiful spot to relax and take in all the birds. We saw red-tailed hawks, spotted towheys, ravens brown headed cowbird, hummingbirds and many more. We camped in a nice open area, near the bath house and hammocks. Main beaches and hiking trails are within 30 minutes drive. The only thing, and this does not reflect on our hosts at all, is that someone who stayed just before us at site 6 really disrespected the property, dumping glassy ashes at the treeline and damaging natural growth. Six or more saplings were hacked at, by morning of the first night three had fallen. That is so not ok! Respect the space! We will definitely return for a future camping trip.
