Elfendahl Forest

Elfendahl forest was a magical, lovely, easy getaway from Seattle. The Wanderbus was well equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was a definite plus! Gary maintains the property so it is clean and has all the amenities you need. It’s hard to believe it is completely off-grid. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique “glammping” experience.

Whimsy and Joy Everywhere

Elfendahl Forest is pure imagination, whimsy, & joy everywhere you look—& clearly such a labor of love. My kiddo & I stayed in the Wanderbus & enjoyed it so much! Highlights were the comfy bed, mushroom decor, old-fashioned hand pump for washing, TV for a movie one night, & the original bus seat for making imaginative travel plans. The bathroom just outside was super convenient, & I really appreciated the hand-washing station. The forest itself smells amazing & is the perfect blend of shade & light. The children’s play area was my child’s paradise. There is literally a little bit of everything to keep kids busy for hours—bikes, art supplies, a climbing obstacle set, swing, cornhole, zip line, Nerf guns, kids’ cocoon hammocks, giant net trampoline, foosball—just to name a FEW. Oh and the bunnies & chickens! 😍😍 And the little walking loop with whimsical fairytale figurines & scenes tucked along the trail too! 🍄 I loved that I could watch nearby while actually resting in a chair or hammock. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking, & the outdoor shower worked really well. It felt more like we were living in the forest for a few days than glamping, & that was such a lovely feeling. Gary himself is such a kind, helpful, interesting soul & an absolute gem of a human. You can feel the care that has gone into creating this place everywhere you look. Thank you for your incredible hospitality & for sharing your magical corner of the forest with us! ❤️

Beautiful Whimsical Spot!

We had a great time at this spot! It was really cool, it was fun and artistic and everything was really pretty! Unfortunately, one of our little doggos was freaking out on her first time camping, so we didn't get to use some of the really cool spaces like the games and communal kitchen. I'm a chef so I was really excited about that. It did look like it was a really neat setup though. Our bus was super cute and really comfy and the space around it was nice and relaxing. We didn't get to go around to the other parts as much as we would have liked but I will say that our nervous dog Zoe did love the rabbits and chickens. She didn't want to leave them LOL. Hopefully we'll be back again soon, maybe next time with a dog sitter. 😂😂😂

This place is pure magic. We started our summer with a trip and my kid begged to go back for our last trip of the summer. Gary thinks of everything. You really can just bring food and a sleeping bag and you will want for nothing. It is peaceful and whimsical. Gary is friendly and respectful of your space and by the end you can’t help but feel like family. Thank you Gary for making a place my kids feel safe, free and curious!

Perfect Glamping Experience

This place is magical—an off-the-grid wonderland filled with creativity, imagination, and so much attention to detail. The owner has clearly poured a tremendous amount of thought and personality into every corner of the property, and it makes the whole place feel incredibly special. The communal spaces are welcoming, playful, and fun for all ages. There’s a large, well-stocked kitchen, beautifully designed and spotless facilities (Louis 1 & 2 and the shower), and gorgeous mosaic work and craftsman-style woodwork throughout the property. And then there are all the fun little surprises: ax throwing, hammocks, a climbing net, a garden, punk bunnies, chickens, flowers, statuary gardens, gnomes, and so many other whimsical details to discover. There’s something around every corner. The hosts have thought of just about everything you could possibly need. And while the camp is wonderfully off the beaten track, there’s plenty to explore—and even more space to simply relax and enjoy being there. Honestly, we found ourselves not wanting to leave! If you do venture out, Belfair State Park is only about 15 minutes away and is a great place to explore, picnic, and swim. The warm saltwater and sandy beach made for a perfect outing. Overall, this was such a fun, imaginative, and surprisingly relaxing stay. The campsite and host were absolutely incredible, and the care and creativity that went into creating this little wonderland really made the experience unforgettable.

Wow! Such an amazing spot! We loved staying here. If you have kids under the age of 10, this place is pure play and magic! Gary has put a lot of thought and work into making this place a delight. Fairies and gnomes around every corner. Chickens, rabbits, garden, little walking trail. The kitchen is fantastic. Hot water showers are sublime! We will be back to rent the whole place out and bring other friends and their kiddos!

Starstruck 🤩

Returned to the wonderful & whimsy Wanderbus for a birthday trip. The staff here are so friendly and welcoming, the hot tub is lovely and relaxing, and we felt like we were living in a fairy tale since we were surrounded by gnomes, fairies, mushrooms, and flowers and safely nestled in our private grotto. We enjoyed cooking in the communal kitchen and also made a nice breakfast and coffee in the bus. It was amazing to have fluffy dry towels on hand, enjoy the propane fire pit, and feel at home in a perfectly appointed and cozy home on wheels for a few days. We stargazed on our second night and enjoyed an absolutely astoundingly gorgeous view of the majestic universe and perseid meteor shower in all its glory. Can't wait to go back!

Great camping area for families!

The Lotus tent in Elfendahl Forest

We loved camping on Gary's property. Our 2 year old enjoyed the play ground, net, playing with the dogs and bunnies, and running around. This was a perfect spot for a family of 4 (2 adults, newborn and toddler). The kitchen was well stocked with supplies, clean bathroom, and shower had heated water. We plan to come back again this summer and highly recommend it to other families.

This was our second visit to Elfendahl forest and our kids had a blast again! The Lotus tent is so spacious and comfortable and the entire camp is so well supplied with kitchenware and things for kids to do.

We loved staying at the Shire campsite! The site itself was very tidy, level, and clean. It's a short walk from the common area which is great for keeping some privacy. My kids (3 and 8) loves all the activities, especially Netopia and the tricycles. The kitchen was well stocked, spacious, and easy to use. I brought all my usual camp stuff and ended up not needing half of it. Gary and his pup Bacchus were so friendly and made is feel welcome our whole stay. Couldn't recommend this spot enough!

Wonderful and whimsical campo

Me and my kids loved camping at Gary’s campground. It was definitely a one of a kind experience. So many fun whimsical additions to the land that added so much fun and curiosity. We also loved all the fun games and activities available. The cute bunnies were one of my favorites. Gary was super responsive to all my questions. We can’t wait to go again.

The place is very cozy. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a good meal. Nice playground for kids. My favorite place is the huge hammock. We just lie on there and look into the trees and sky. High recommend to stay here with your kids.

Our group stayed at the Bilbo Inn last night after some plans fell through; but this last minute booking ended up being the coolest spot we’ve seen on hip camp yet. Gary was super welcoming and has done a great job with the whole area. It really feels like you’ve stepped into a fairytale grove and the good vibes follow suit. Looking forward to coming back in the fall when the sauna is up and running, would recommend it for sure 👍

Well stocked

Gary, the host, is a really cool and friendly person. We rented the Wanderbus and it was well stocked, cooler, dishes, camp stove, spices, board games, blankets, pillows, camp chairs and drinking water. The bed was very comfy and the public areas very fun!

We enjoyed so many things about Gary’s place! We stayed in the bell tent and it was more than I expected. Some of the stand outs: We arrived to a freshly made, comfortable bed for my husband and I and a very nice blow up mattress for our daughter. The private kitchen was amazing. Between that and the communal kitchen, we literally only needed to bring our food. Pots, pans, plates, cups, bowls, etc are all provided. The composting toilets are clean (our site also has its own toilet.) We happened to camp during the weekdays and were the only ones there. We had a blast playing cards under the umbrellas, hanging with the rabbits, and playing with all of the fun kid toys. Being surrounded by whimsy at every turn helped us to remember how to have fun. We will definitely be back and hope to bring all of our friends and take over the forest! Thank you Gary for creating a place that invites free spirited fun!

Magical and Whimsical Experience

Our family had an amazing time at Elfendahl Forest! It was whimsical and fun with lots of amenities. We stayed in the Baggins Inn. It comfortably fit 2 adults and 3 small children. Setting up and tearing down a tent is one of my least favorite things about camping. The accommodations made it so I could spend that time playing with the kids instead. I love that our dogs were welcome too! It was really nice to have a well kept composting toilet available. I appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and cooking surfaces as well. Thank you for making such a magical experience for us! The kids are planning next season's trip to visit Elfendahl again. 😊

My niece and I had a wonderful time on the Wanderbus! It was beautifully equipped and designed. The hot tub was perfection. Candy and the other staff on site helped with anything that came up and were incredibly kind and welcoming. I can't wait to come back with my kids!

A Whimsical Wonderland for Families

What a delightful little gem! From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by the colorful, whimsical art installations scattered throughout the property. Every corner seemed to have a fun surprise, giving the whole place a playful, magical feel that made our stay especially memorable. The Lotus tent was cozy, comfortable, and a perfect home base. We also really appreciated both the private kitchen setup right outside the tent for our area and the main shared kitchen for back-up mugs/plates/equipment—they were both thoughtfully equipped and made cooking incredibly convenient. Our kids (ages 6 and 8) were absolutely enchanted. Between the tire swing, bikes, foosball table, endless toys, sweet bunnies, and the owners' incredibly friendly dogs, they were happily entertained for hours. It felt like a place where kids could simply be kids, exploring and playing freely. We also picked up fresh eggs from the owners for breakfast, and they were absolutely delicious. The only minor downside was the mosquitoes, but the owners thoughtfully provided bug spray, which was much appreciated. This place is full of warmth, creativity, and whimsy, just like its owners. If you're looking for a unique, family-friendly getaway with thoughtful hosts and endless charm, we can't recommend it enough.

This place was super cute!!! I love Le all the different places you could sleep/stay but there was a common area of you wanted to mingle. The cutest decor and things to look at and sit by. The hosts were very gracious and kind. I enjoyed their pups!! Good dogs if I might say so!!

We had a great time at Baggins Inn in Elfendahl Forest! The property is so nicely tucked away from the main road, making for a peaceful and quiet getaway, but it’s not so far that we couldn’t drive back into town as needed. The amenities and attention to detail were amazing - from the relaxing outdoor shower, to the fully stocked kitchen, to the fun games and activities all around. Gary and staff were very helpful and friendly. We loved exploring the property and greeting the rabbits, chickens, dog and cat. This is truly a magical little spot right nearby us. I’m very happy to have found it.
