River location is prime, that’s it.
PROS:
-This spot is just above/at dog island, which is my absolute favorite spot on the James to climb around on rocks, jump off them & just have a good time in the water (with river shoes & life vest!).
- Easy & direct access to river via ramp (though it’s muddy!)
-Flat, grassy, cleared field that has some good shade under trees to set up camp under (no river view from field area tho, which is a big bummer.)
CONS:
- Field/Property is RIGHT beside a train track … like SO CLOSE to train track. Beside noise problems, this could be a big danger for dogs or little kids (or drunk person lol) who may wander off.
-There is ZERO cell service here!
-This is as primitive as it gets! There is no fire pit, no picnic table, no facilities, no nothing. I mean, the property is as advertised but I feel like it’s worth restating here that all you get is land & river access! You must bring everything and I wish it at least had a table & fire ring!
-It’s not really private. Besides the fact that 3 sites are offered in this one small field, someone else’s land butts up right to the site (it’s not at a distance or sectioned off by woods or anything). And also the owner of this site said that she and her family (including a teen on a dirt bike) would continue to use the site during our stay to access the river. The owners also keep their kayaks down on the site as well, right above the ramp. There were also a two properties across the river that I noticed people.
-I didn’t love the layout
