Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private campsites in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our 100 acres was originally a CCC camp, then a boys’ juvenile detention center and Big Brothers’/Big Sisters’ camp. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil’s Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail. We've decided to keep the cabin open for the winter months (Dec. through March) but the bath house will not be open unless we have unseasonably warm temperatures. There will be outhouses for your use and we can provide drinking water if you need it.Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge Cabin 1 has a very large lot which could accommodate additional tents for an additional fee. The cabin has no electric so bring lanterns and flashlights. If you need water you will have to go to the pavilion, which is a short walk or drive away. If you're not out seeing the nearby sites, you're going to want to spend your time relaxing on the front porch.  You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag, sheets and pillows.  Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the '30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. You're welcome to explore the property and get a feel for the history of the place. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. Within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devils Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there's something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Cozy Stay
Perfect setting and experience. The cabin was exactly as advertised and Adam provided plenty of firewood for keeping warm. There's quite a lot of things to do in the area but the camp itself also has several artists in residence and hosted an open studio event while we were there that was vibrant and charming. We enjoyed wandering around the camp and learning about the history. If you find yourself in the pavilion, make sure you try the skittle game. The hot water and flush toilets in the pavilion (short drive from the cabin) were a really nice bonus that we didn't expect.

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
Thunder BRidge is a very beautiful and quiet camp ground. There are amazing views to be seen both during the day and at night. 10/10 would recommend. I can't wait to see how this place developes over the future years.

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
The cabin and entire site was awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and Adam made our stay care free. He even through in some extra wood. Would highly recommend the cabin or any of the sites at ThunderBridge.

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
Great site for a group
Perfect place for a really great weekend in Natural Bridge. We didn’t sleep in the cabin, we love our tents, but the cabin was great and would have been cozy at night. We really enjoyed the having the covered porch during the rain. The site was very private and perfect for corralling our three dogs. They had an absolute blast playing, walking the trails, and running in the field. The stars were incredible and the field was perfect for star gazing. Adam was super responsive and welcoming but not at all intrusive, great camp host. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great weekend in the woods.
