Site 3 is riverfront . It’s like camping on the edge of a large mowed field with plenty of shade . Very private.
The campsite offers a delightful mix of privacy, scenic beauty, and accessibility. Many campers appreciate the spacious and well-maintained sites close to the river, making it a hit for fishing, swimming, or just relaxing by the water. The host, Michael, is noted for his helpfulness and responsiveness, enhancing the overall experience. While some mentioned the proximity of other campers, the general sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive, making it a desirable spot for both families and solo adventurers.
Camp site 2 was great. Several options of where to pitch a tent, a large well kept field area with fire pit, picnic table and swing, as well as plenty of room for a tent or 2 on the small beach by the water (fire pit down there as well). Trains occasionally roll through day and night across the river so you may periodically be woken up, but the view and experience is well worth it.
Nice site and easily accessible, great for families or people with varying levels of camping experience. There was not as much privacy from the other site as I was expecting, they were on opposite ends of a small mowed field but not too close. Site was very well kept but I think the price for the site is a bit high for what it is. I’d definitely come back with my family though.
We have stayed a Seven Islands a couple different times now and each trip is always a blast. Michael is a fantastic host and is helpful and responsive. We will definitely be back!
This one is definitely going on my favorite list! Everything a Hipcamp should be and more. Complete privacy, beautiful scenery and I'm not sure if I could have asked for more. Beautiful freshly cut area with tree shade picnic table and beachfront on the James River. Spent the afternoon exploring the river by foot. Then we walked it again and brought our poles. Spent sunset in the river and ended the evening catching catfish and a eating delicious fajitas. The next day was even more magical as we watched the sunrise over the James fishing in the center of the river and back on the shore, sight fishing huge bass. Unfortunately, we had to pack it out and head home. We will 100% be back and would recommend to anyone. I imagine it is just a gorgeous in the fall. Thank you for sharing your property with us.
Our family really enjoyed site 2. Beautiful view of the river and easy access to a nice sandy area to wade and chase minnows. The swing was the highlight for the kids!
Had a really nice relaxing escape here. The campsite was very clean and well keep. Everyone is spaced out enough for privacy and yet still able to see your neighbors. Just don’t miss the turn look for the Hipcamp boat. Which we thought was a nice idea. We ate right on the rock instead of the picnic table. Would definitely be back. Purchased firewood and received the most beautiful red wood. So pretty - we didn’t use it but used the leftover we had from our previous campsite.
Such a perfect spot to camp! We had an exceptional time here over the weekend, zero complaints! Lots of space for tents, etc. Site was well maintained. Loved being such a short walk from the river; our dogs had a great time swimming and playing in the water. Site was open and sunny with a few trees that provided shade, when needed. Felt private and far away from the other site. Host communicated wonderfully; even brought us some wood when we ran out (& it burned great!). We've already talked about wanting to go back - highly recommend this spot!

This is my 2nd trip to this campsite. Big wide-open field with many areas to pitch a tent. Campsite includes a fire pit area and a picnic table. You can venture down to the beach to fish and lounge on the river. That area also has a fire pit. This is a very beautiful and safe place. I will return in the future. I highly recommend.
This is our third time coming back. We had a great time tent camping near the water! It was beautiful and the hosts are lovely and accommodating. Lots of open space and far enough from the other campsites to feel secluded.
Fantastic location right on the water with a big field perfect for tent camping. Cute little swing by the campfire and the firepit had a grate as well as some seating and there was a picnic table! We will be back!
The property is stunning - very flat land and easy to drive in and out of. Fire ring - picnic table and swing - all there. Spent the day wading for small mouth - caught many! Honestly - a wonderful piece of property w tremendous water views - stars - it has it all. Micheal the host is responsive and easy to engage.
Our family loved our camping vacation! Michael and his wife offered an experience at my family, will never forget. The quiet and peaceful area, the gorgeous views, and safety provided a place for my family to truly enjoy our vacation.
Both sites 2 and 3 were enjoyed by our grandkids. A swing at site 2 and a shallow area great for toddlers at site 3. The rain poured down a couple of times and we still had a blast. Beautiful sky and comforting nature sounds at night.
Michael's property is one of our favorite hipcamps we've stayed at! There's nothing around but peace, quiet and wildlife exactly what we were looking for in addition to an amazing river with lots of fish right at your site! Michael gave us a warm welcome and also stopped by to check on us the next day :) If we are ever in the area again we will for sure be back! Thanks Michael for sharing your slice of paradise with us!
Site 2 was amazing! It’s a clean and spacious campsite with plenty of privacy and easy access to the river. Our 13-year-old Lab loved it and enjoyed swimming in the river several times each day. We will definitely return again!!
Lovely primitive camping spot. Site 2 has a little path down to a sandy beach in front of the river where we put some chairs out and relaxed. Beautiful and shady site, picnic table and fire ring are provided. There’s a second fire ring down by the beach which was nice. Even with a big group at the next site, we never heard them or really saw them, plenty of space for everyone and privacy which was really nice.
There’s a great bbq place about 20 minutes away (Grass or Grain Beefhouse) that has amazing southern food, great spot to visit if you’re camping here!
Michael is great, came and checked in with us when we arrived to make sure everything was ok and communication with him prior to arriving was fantastic. We had great quick getaway there, looking forward to returning to this beautiful river spot.
I loved being able to sit on the sandy bank of the James River and enjoy the sound of water rushing by. The river was up high enough to launch a kayak and enjoy a day of fishing. Sitting and enjoying the sounds of the river and geese flying by was enough to have me return.
