This site was just fine. We needed a place to sleep for a night - got in late, left early, and that was about all we’d probably feel comfortable with. The back was a bit of a mess - there were some small toys, a broken tent lying on the ground, a bike hanging from the tree. It was all a bit strange.

The site was perfect for what we were looking for! It’s close to Harrisonburg and right off the highway for easy access. A few items to note, not bad just observations. The bathroom is in the hosts house, there is the potential of having other campers nearby so limited privacy, and it’s quite close to the road. Overall, it was a great stay.

Orv is friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The space felt pleasant, private, and safe. I was not comfortable with the poison ivy that I saw and the ticks that might have been in the tall grass around the campsite. Orv provided firewood and pine needles for tinder. My son and I enjoyed a campfire. Thanks for sharing your yard, Orv

Nice private place. Easy drive to food and drinks or hiking and historical places. The host was extremely nice and informative about mushrooms 🍄.

This was one of my favorite places I’ve stayed at on Hipcamp so far. Orv was a hospitable host with a lot of cool interest. I would definitely stay here again if back in the area.

It was fine, but the grass really needed to be mowed. It rained a lot during our stay and the tall grass made the bugs/ticks/mud worse.

Orv is a generous and kind host. And a great photographer and lover of wildlife. His land has great potential and just needs a little TLC. There is some poison ivy to navigate and the area is a bit unkempt yet it's worth keeping in mind.

Camping at one of Orv’s campsites was awesome! He has a beautiful, secluded property with power cords, and an awesome fire pit! He even gave us a tour of his mushroom growing operation which was very cool. I would love to stay again, and would definitely recommend this spot to a friend!

Exactly what we were looking for. Affordable overnight spot near JMU for our camper van with bathroom, hot shower, and enough electricity for our small heater. Orv was very helpful and made sure we were comfortable.

Orv is friendly and accommodating. The sites are near his home and vary from pine covered to open sky. Restroom is inside his house, well stocked and clean. Power outlet is outside back door. Excellent cell service. Although near main road with traffic noise in the evening, no issue overnight. Big fire rings to use. Good trees for hammocks. I would stay here again and recommend it.

Orv was a great host. I made last minute reservations and he was very accommodating. He offered his wood for the fire pit which saved me from having to find some. I was very grateful for that!!! He offered a bathroom and shower, but I had my own. It was a little closer to the highway than I would have liked, but that was the only drawback. It got quiet at night. I would definitely go back!!

It was...different. There are no designated camp sites. The host, a nice guy, met me when I arrived and said "set up anywhere." I had a hammock and found a couple trees (decorated with some metal art things) and got set up. Meanwhile, the mosquitos were eating me alive. Several areas of standing water (tarps, knick knacks, etc) doesn't help that situation. There were a few cats roaming around, but they weren't a bother. You have to go into the house to use the bathroom. Had to step over and around some clutter, but the bathroom itself was clean. You're not at a farm in the typical sense, more of a backyard. Not really a bad experience, but I probably wouldn't stay again.

Excellent Hipcamp. Plenty of shade,perfect for van lifers,small teardrop rigs,tents. Host ran a cord to my site and furnished power.
Ask for a tour of the mushroom farm. Give it a try you won’t find a better place to kick back for a couple days and ⛺️ at Orv’s place.

Orv was a great host during our stay, and he has such a beautiful, unique property just outside of Harrisonburg! Orv greeted us when we arrived and showed us the campsites & facilities in the house. He was gracious enough to show us his mushroom farm and how he grows them. Shaver Mill Rd, which runs parallel to his property, is a great road to walk. A one mile walk to the top of the hill gets you to 360 views of the Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding Blue Ridge. Perfect for sunrise and/or sunset! Really enjoyed learning of Orv’s ties to this property and local knowledge of the area. It sealed the deal for our returning to this site when we visit Harrisonburg. Just an all-around great experience!

Great stay! Beautiful spot with the trees and skyline. Very peaceful. Able to use electric and bathrooms if needed. Orv was wonderful and I got to tour the mushroom farm. Would definitely come back!

This was a last minute booking for a 1 night tent stay and I had a pleasant visit. Lots of space to set up camp in a cool shady area with some neat antiques and trinkets around. Appreciated all the free firewood and Orv's tour of his mushroom farm. Would stay again.

Orv's mushroom farm was the perfect stay for us overnight. He was very kind and even showed us around the farm although we arrived later at night. It was such an awesome experience perk to have access to a bathroom. The electrical outlet also was great so we could run the heater in our van without draining the battery.

Great setup but not much seclusion camping sites are near each other and also right next to the owners house. Was really nice to have Wi-Fi, a hot shower, power, and owner was very friendly and helpful

Orv has great communication before you arrive and before you leave. We enjoyed the one night stay on his little bit of eclectic property. He’s very welcoming and as others have stated, the free firewood is a major bonus. He is passionate about his mushrooms growing and enjoys showing you around.

The property is amazing, wonderfuly kept and clearly maintained with intention. Orv was knowledgeable about mushrooms and wildlife, I got a fantastic tour around the property where we did some bird watching. The location is less than 10min from town, but feels like it is hours away. The campsite itself was clean, comfortable, with logs and fire pits. Amazing wildlife, fantastic host, 10/10 recommend!

The host was welcomed us when we arrived. The have a fire pit, wood and a power outlet available. It is right off the main road. Their is minimal road nosie at the site.

I felt save. The space was much more private than big campgrounds. Orv is a very hospitable host. The location is very convenient to Harrisonburg, and I had a great day trip to Big Meadows.
