HOWL (Huntington Open Women's Land) is a mission-driven nonprofit which stewards 54 acres of land bordering on Camel’s Hump State Park, creating a space centered on women, trans people of all genders, and nonbinary and agender people. We ask that if you camp with us, you respect our guidelines regarding gender and living in community with others. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we offer a 15% off discount code. We are also seeking full-time residents! Please note that we are on a dirt road on a mountain well away from town. You will need reliable transportation to visit here; 4WD recommended in winter months.

** Great Mountain View. Good for hammocks. Longer walk. ** One of our two most popular sites, with one of the best views. Named for the beloved Afrofuturist author. A perfect balance of meadow, fern-filled forest, and spectacular view of mountains and farm. Plenty of room for three tents or multiple hammocks. Stunning during golden hour in fall. 5-minute walk, 90 feet elevation gain. Directions to Octavia Butler: 1. Start at driveway at very top of road, to right of house. 2. Take main path straight uphill, past outhouse. 3. Look for treeline on right. Take path on right just before treeline and before small wooden planks in path. 4. Follow path uphill to your site at the curve of the treelike.

One of our most popular sites. Best Mountain View, especially for sunset. Longer walk from parking and outhouse. This spacious site can fit three two-person tents comfortably. There is a sensational view over the mountains, and nearby woods for gathering firewood. Sleep to the sound of the stream falling down rocks. Memorable spot for a full moon fire, stargazing, or solstice gathering. Every August the Perseid meteor shower rains shooting stars on us, and this is the best spot to bathe in them. 8-minute uphill walk, 60 ft elevation gain (carts available) Directions to Crow Cohen: 1. Start at the driveway at very top of road, on right side of house. 2. Take the main path straight uphill, past the outhouse. 3. Continue up the hill, over wooden plank bridge, almost all the way to top. 4. Look for a lone Red Maple tree, just before the edge of the forest. 5. Campsite with fire ring is to left off of path. (Please do not pitch tent in path by tree.)

** Mountain and Sunset View, Tent Platform, Woods. Uphill walk. ** A quiet hill site tucked under the eaves of the forest, looking out over the mountains and valley. Space for one two-person tent on the platform or ground. Note: Depending on the height of the meadow, you may be able to see a campsite downhill from here. 5-minute walk, 60 feet elevation gain Directions to Nawal El Saadawi: 1. Start at driveway at very top of road, to right of house. 2. Take main path straight uphill, past outhouse. 3. Just after a the plank bridge, take the right-hand path. 4. Continue uphill 1 minute to tent platform at treeline.

**Secluded, Nice View, minimal climbing. ** 2-3 minute walk, 25 feet elevation gain Directions to Wangari Muta Maathai: 1. Start at driveway at very top of road, to right of house. 2. Take main path straight uphill, past outhouse. 3. Campsite is on your left. 4. Walk all the way past the site to get to the entrance, just before the trees. Please do not walk on tall grasses and wildflowers next to site.

Stay in the guest room in the shared farmhouse for an intentional living experience. Room with a double bed on the first floor, next to the shared bathroom. Bedding and towels provided. Cell service is not reliable, but the hot shower and Wifi are excellent. We have coffee, tea, spices, and some fridge space in the shared kitchen. No dogs or smoking in the house please.

Farmhouse Guest Room
Everyone in the house was very friendly and made us feel welcome. There are also lots of great viewpoints and campsites for things like watching the sunset or having a campfire under the stars.

Farmhouse Guest Room
HOWL is a lovely place to stay! The hosts were welcoming and warm, opened their home as if I was an old friend and made sure that I felt comfy and ready to enjoy the beautiful surrounds. I'd recommend staying there - either camping or in the farmhouse - anytime your path takes you to the Upper Valley in Vermont!

I loved my visit and hope.to return. The room at the farmhouse was comfy and Meg and Ashley were so accommodating. It was like visiting family...probably better. The land is gorgeous and sunset is not to be missed!

My experience with HOWL was wonderful, from start to finish. Meg's communication and directions before the trip were clear and incredibly helpful, and both Meg and the grounds were welcoming and beyond accommodating. It felt like staying at a dear friend's home, and a safe haven. The land is stunning, and I loved getting to walk up to watch the sunset and lay in the hammock for a bit to look at the stars. It's close to some great hiking trails 5-10 minutes by car), and only about 20 minutes into town for groceries should you need. I definitely recommend, and look forward to returning. Thank you Meg, and HOWL!

Crow's Nest (Crow Cohen)
Stayed at Crow’s Cohen for 4 nights. Absolutely stunning. Meg was an absolutely wonderful caretaker. We had everything we needed provided to us and more. Informed us about a meteor shower that was happening on one of the nights that we were going to be there and unaware of. Seeing it was truly one of the best moments of the trip and it was so nice to be able to just chat with her! Not invasive whatsoever and allowed us to have whatever camp experience we wanted to, whether that be enjoy it alone or with the community. Highly recommend this site for anyone looking for a nice sanctuary/escape from the daily routine! We will definitely be back and cannot wait for that opportunity to arise for us soon. Crow's Nest (Crow Cohen)
This land was unbelievably special. Our site, Crow Cohen, had the most incredible view of the meadows, the mountains, and the sunset. We also made it down to the memorial garden, where we were able to learn about Crow Cohen herself! This land is so sacred, overwhelmingly safe, and I can't wait to come back one day. Thanks Meg for the amazing experience and for all you're doing at HOWL!

Amazing campsite! My dog Keiko & I stayed at the Octavia Butler site (well-chosen name!) for two nights. The view is even better in real life. A lovely hillside with a fire pit, level ground & sweeping views of the Green Mountains. Tons of wildlife - we saw deer, snakes, bats, a bear (fortunately not too close up) and countless dragonflies. Meg was extremely friendly & helpful. In addition to the beautiful surroundings, there’s a clean outhouse, outdoor sink and dining/cooking area with picnic tables. Safe, comfortable, beautiful & inviting - nothing was missing or overlooked. A real Vermont gem!

This land is so special. The view from Octavia Butler was spectacular in the morning. It rained while we were there and having a bit of cover of the trees was really nice. The caretakers are very welcoming and its a great spot to hike Camel’s Hump!

We had a fabulous snowy campsite with wonderful views of the total eclipse. Highlights: kind and caring camp host (Meg), easy access but still felt remote and “off the grid”, friendly fellow campers. We will be back and highly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a great balance of solitude and connection. Simply lovely in every way.

I went tent camping here for the eclipse. I chose it because no cis men are allowed at HOWL. That made me feel safe to camp by myself for the first time. During this trip, I discovered that I'm capable of doing a LOT more things than I thought I was capable of before, and I'm going to take that knowledge home with me to apply to the rest of my life. There's a composting outhouse in easy walking distance, and just past that there's a building with a breezeway, wifi, a coffeemaker, and firewood for purchase. Outside that building there's an outdoor faucet with sink and a couple of picnic tables. The camping host was very friendly and helpful. The fire ring at the Wangaricampsite is very well maintained. Note that this campsite isn't bumpy, but it's also entirely on a slight incline.

Nice area, a lot of land so you have plenty of privacy, but you can head towqrds the house and picnic tables of you want to mingle with others. Lovely host, beautiful location.

11/10 would recommend! Such a beautiful spot with great company. Meg was great and so helpful. Microwave and wifi also really came in handy. Did have lots of snow despite no snow elsewhere but it was A fun experience!

We were warmly welcomed to the place. It was easy to check in and get to our encampment. We felt safe and cared for as well (even thou we didn't interact much with the crew). The land itself is beautiful and staying by the stream was soothing in many ways.

This is an amazing place to stay! Even though we arrived past check-in time (definitely recommend arriving earlier to be able to enjoy the spot in the daylight) we received a warm welcome and the hosts made sure we knew where we were going and that we were set for the night. It was a beautiful view to wake up to in the morning.

The atmosphere was so warm and inviting! The caretakers were knowledgeable and gave great directions. Our site was well kept, clean, and comfortable. We had a blast; could not recommend enough!
