This property was often frequented by Indians dating back to the Clovis times. It also was the camping site for laborers building the Old Train Tunnel that now houses millions of Mexican Free Tailed Bats. Sitting on the edge of the valley, you can watch the beautiful Sunsets and watch the bats emerge! Learn more about this land: Camp next to a gorgeous view and watch the sunsets and the bats emerge when they are in season. There is a fire ring for when the burn ban is off. We are within a quarter mile (walking distance) to the Old Tunnel State Park and Alamo Springs Cafe bragging the best burgers in Texas. We are also three miles from famous Bankersmith and ten miles from Luckenbach. Fredericksburg town is 20 minutes and there are many wineries in the area. We also live on the property (building a house) so we can be of some help if needed. 23 miles away you have Blanco State Park. Situated along a one-mile stretch of the spring-fed Blanco River, the small but mighty Blanco State Park is very family-friendly, offering the spectacular Falls Dam, nature trails, fishing, tubing, kayaking, and deep water for a good, refreshing swim. The stocked river is teeming with largemouth and Guadalupe bass, catfish, sunfish, and rainbow trout, and can be an excellent place for beginning anglers (you can even borrow equipment for free)

Red Oak Ridge site is situated adjacent to site 1 on the ridge of the valley but farther out on the point. It has a rock fireplace with cooking grill and a couple metal chairs for your use. There is a flush toilet in a shared outhouse. There is the start of a fence (in the works) offering this site privacy from the adjacent site and this site is also great choice when renting the adjacent site for bigger families or groups. From May (2025 they are here early!) through October, bats emerge from the tunnel and if you're lucky, they might even fly right overhead during their evening exit. There is a shared bathroom with a flush toilet for your use. You will be within a quarter mile (walking distance) to the Old Tunnel State Park and Alamo Springs Cafe, bragging the best burgers in Texas. We are also three miles from Bankersmith (old town and bar) and ten miles from historic Luckenbach. Fredericksburg town is 20 minutes away and there are many wineries in the area. We also live nearby on the property (building a house) so we can be of assistance if needed.

We are within a quarter mile (walking distance) to the Old Tunnel State Park and Alamo Springs Cafe bragging the best burgers in Texas. We are also three miles from famous Bankersmith and ten miles from Luckenbach. Fredericksburg town is 20 minutes and there are many wineries in the area. If you desire a larger area or more privacy, we now have an adjacent site (Red Oak Lookout) to rent too. We also live nearby on the property (building a house) so we can be of some help if needed.

The Garden Shed is our Honeymooner's glamping area. It offers a quaint and comfy garden shed with a queen bed for two (you provide your bedding) , a beautiful view through the shuttered windows and has an adjacent campfire circle area for your use. The circle has a fire ring at the center to use when the burn ban is off (and wind permitting), and a partially covered shade sail offering relief from the heat complete with two hammocks. You'll find tin and glass relics scattered among the rocks which were found on this site and left by the men who built the Tunnel at the turn of the century. From May through October, bats emerge from the tunnel and if you're lucky, they might even fly right overhead during their evening exit. There is a bathroom with a flush toilet for your use about 250 feet away. You will be within a quarter mile (walking distance) to the Old Tunnel State Park and Alamo Springs Cafe, bragging the best burgers in Texas. We are also three miles from Bankersmith (old town and bar) and ten miles from historic Luckenbach. Fredericksburg town is 20 minutes away and there are many wineries in the area. We also live on the property (building a house) so we can be of assistance if needed.

Great Hipcamp!

We had a great time camping here - Janine and Juan are amazing hosts and we loved chatting with them. Our dog had a blast running around with Rocky too!! The view is even better in person and there’s lots to do in the area. Definitely get a burger at the Alamo Springs Cafe down the street and check out Old Tunnel State Park (both are walking distance away). We’ll be back!!

Very quiet and peaceful! Wonderful bar and grill just walking distance away! They also have fire wood for sale on site! Would definitely come back!

We stayed in the garden shed on a night when some big storms rolled through. Some issues arose, but we had a conversation about it and the hosts were very responsive. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Proximity to the Alamo Springs Cafe is a nice benefit!

This place is great. It's within walking distance to the cafe, which has great food, and the state park. We picked the campsite with the privacy fence. The view off the back of the site was definitely a looker. The hosts informed us that you can see the bats leave the cave at the state park, but we already had tickets to the bat viewing. The best part of the entire campsite was actually the view of the stars. There is pretty much zero ambient light out there, and you can see the Milky Way!!!! This was by far my favorite part! I camped in a hammock and had zero issues with bugs (it's October, and the temperature dropped to 51°, so take that with a grain of salt). Every site apparently has poles for hanging hammocks, which was perfect for me. I definitely recommend this place! If you're lucky, Rocky the mutt will Come visit you! He's so soft and friendly 😍😍

I couldn’t have picked a better place for the eclipse. Janine and Juan were very nice and inviting. They even offered us food and a tour of their land. The view from our campsite was beautiful. Thank you so much to them for making this experience wonderful.

This place is very unique and special. It has soul! Stunning location with beautiful views. Spring time flowers surrounded our tent so magical and hosts Janine and Juan could not have been more warm helpful and friendly. Luckenbach round the corner and got to be seen. Highly recommend you check this out if you anywhere around Fredericksburg.

The hosts provided a well situated camp site. Their kindness and warmth added to the amazing views. The campground remained pleasant even in the tremendous thunderstorm and abundance of rain. Lovely place to retreat.

This was the first time camping on someone's land for us and it was an absolute blast. The hosts were so nice and accommodating, they even lent me a rake to move some rocks (when I insisted to my husband we put the tent in another place then the tent area lol). The view is breathtaking and the site itself is so nicely put together. I recommend getting the hammock add-on they MADE the trip for us! But the best part of the whole trip had to be the site mascot ROCKY! he was the sweetest dog ever and he would come over to check on us (or grab a snack or two). We will definitely be returning with our son in the future thank you for having us we had so much fun!!!

Review Where to start? The view. Second to none, beautiful hill country landscape, no power lines or urban sprawl in view. When you’re ready to engage with the view, you are only steps away from hiking Old Tunnel State Park dining at the Alamo Springs Cafe. Cafe pro tip - get there early for the Friday ribeye dinner, it sells out quick! When you’re ready to explore beyond foot, you’re only minutes away from wineries and Fredericksburg. Saving the best for last is Janine and Juan who make this HipCamp experience what it is. If I had to pick my neighbors, they make top of list. Their hospitality exceeds all expectations, and what they’ve done with site landscaping and facilities made for a fantastic stay. Leaving was the most difficult part!

Great place! Hiking and places to eat and drink are just minutes away but you still feel secluded. Came with tons of amenities and the views were incredible. Would stay here again!

I was lucky enough to enjoy the privacy of this beautiful spot during the October 14th eclipse! Amazing views and amazing hosts. Juan and Rocky were so welcoming and friendly. He’s done so much with the property and I can’t wait to see his ideas come to life the next time I book a spot here. Highly recommend!

What a lovely view for a camp site with friendly, inviting hosts! They have thought of many helpful and appreciated additions to make for a wonderful camping experience. Posts with straps and rings ready for hammocks, fire rings and wood (if not in a burn ban), a level area covered with mulch, chairs and an over-the-moon, well designed outhouse. The dark sky for stargazing was spectacular, and the proximity to Alamo Springs Cafe and the Old Tunnel State Park and bats was enjoyable. Also too far for a leisurely ride to Luckenbach. Thankful that they shared their land with us.

What an amazing place to stay…. What an amazing host. Even Rocky, the dog was very polite and friendly. Definitely plan on staying there again… thank you so much for a wonderful stay. All the bats flying out from the cave were breathtaking…

Views, Relaxation and Superb Hosts

Rock on Ridge with its superb hosts Janine and Juan turned out to be an outstanding stay with incredible views. We needed a day of reflection and relaxation, and this was the perfect place for both. Although they’re out in the country, it’s within walking distance to a low key cafe. There are plenty of other activities in the area if someone wants to go hiking, wine tasting or check out a local farmers market. We do enjoyed our time there and chatting with our hosts that we are already planning a date for a return visit!

My wife and I had a lovely stay at Rock On Ridge! Janine and Juan were amazing hosts showing us lots of hill country hospitality. The views were wonderful and the site is within walking distance of Old Tunnel State Park and Alamo Springs Cafe. We rate our stay a 10/10 and will definitely be back!!

Janine was awesome and accommodating! We arrived after 10pm and they were still up to welcome us. The views were awesome! Just make sure to stake down your tent, it can get pretty windy up there!

Our hosts were incredibly kind and relaxed. They live nearby but were unintrusive; there’s a privacy fence making the space nice and private. They welcomed us and our dogs and brought back a nice little birthday surprise I appreciated so much. Site is well cared for — I have never seen a cuter/cleaner outhouse in my life. Location was perfect — beautiful views. There’s a second site on location that would be perfect if two families went and scooped up both sites. It’s windy at the top in hill country, so recommend extra blankets for night/morning. Alamo Springs Cafe is walking distance but recommend going early during peak season (now) as they will have a wait. This was our first hipcamp experience, and we will definitely go back!
