Private, peaceful and secluded. We purchased the 5.3 acres as a forest back in 2007. We cut down a little bit of the forest to build our house. Native Americans once lived here. Sometimes you can find arrowheads. Some of the forest burned down in the great Bastrop wildfire in 2011, but it has grown back. Mobile phones work well here. Strong signal. Learn more about this land: Lost Pines Camping is located on a gravel dead-end road. We are in a pine forest with some oaks and have a two-acre lake on the property that is good for swimming. Bastrop and Buescher State Parks are nearby and easy to access through back roads. Blackberries can be picked for a month or so in springtime. Downtown Bastrop and Downtown Smithville are both a ten-minute drive away. The bathroom is a 2 minute walk from the tent site. With a surveyor's wheel it is 334 feet walk through the forest.The tent site has a water spigot and electricity. Cook stoves are OK. Disconnect from city noise

If you’re looking for a camping trip where you can disconnect from city noise, in my opinion, this is not the right place. The highway noise is quite loud, to the point of interrupting sleep. Additionally, although it might have been a casual situation, music from a nearby party was very loud until 1 a.m. On the positive side, the bathroom was clean, and access to drinking water and electricity was excellent.

Pine tree heaven!

Craig was a fantastic host, and his assistant Matt was so kind and helpful! We really enjoyed the property, it was breathtaking with all the pine trees around! The fact that my dog was allowed to roam and explore really took the stress of keeping her leashed off me so I could finally relax as well….probably the best thing about the trip! The private bathroom and shower were also a plus! 10 out of 10! Thanks Craig and Matt!

Great little spot to lay your head. Cool system of interconnected trails that leads down to the lake. There was a large amount of pine needles everywhere that make for a little extra cushion while sleeping. Bathroom was clean and well maintained.

We had a good time overall and really loved the abundance of pine trees all around us. The campsite was well kept and the trails were easy to follow. Be wary that if it rains there is a lot of clay which gets very messy and made getting down to the lake a bit more challenging. The restroom and shower were clean and we loved that there was a composting pile. However the fact that you can see the lakeside campsite clearly from the house next to the restroom does make it seem less private than we had hoped. But overall we enjoyed our stay and Ebon was awesome!

Beautiful spot nestled in the pines! We loved staying at Craig’s place. Great accessibility for bikers and park goers, and a wonderful place to start our ride to Buescher SP. Our only regret is not going for a swim!

Beautiful site that’s full of noise

The host was super friendly and greeted us right away when we arrived. The campsite was gorgeous, tucked away in the pines near the lake. I’d recommend it if you don’t mind the highway noise or noisy neighbors. But if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway, you might want to look elsewhere. My wife and I really enjoyed the camping because of the beautiful scenery. But we couldn’t get over the constant noise of the highway. And there are multiple roosters nearby that crow around 5 AM, making it hard to sleep in. If you can ignore the noise, this is a nice spot near Bastrop State Park. But for me, it wasn’t my favorite. I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Overall great experience. Host was friendly and helpful. Lots of nature and a good spot to explore. Only negative, and likely temporary, was some noisy construction close by. Would likely book again in future.

Craig It has everything you need to make your experience a good one. There was a hose for us and the bathrooms were clean! Hot water and a good host. It was an excellent weekend; nothing to regret.

My friends and I had a great time tent camping on this beautiful property. The owner was very nice, and he will show you around upon arrival. You will never be bothered by anyone camping here, but its worth noting the owner lives about 100 yards from the campsite. The nearby state parks are also wonderful.

Conveniently located for Bastrop and the areas east of Austin. Private tent campsite with beautiful surroundings and good amenities. Perfect spot for a fire if the weather--and burn bans--permits. Great view of the night sky surrounded by woods. The parking spot is not level and is short, but the owner is in the process of extending the concrete pad. The site is essentially a few blocks from the highway, so road noise is prominent and consistent, although not jarring.

Great RTT test run

Forest Tent Camping.
This was our first time using Hip Camp and chose to stay three nights at Lost Pines to test our new RTT setup. Parked onto the pad and setup within minutes. Craig was an excellent host and took the time to show us the walking trail to the amenities and his awesome custom built bathroom setups (the engineer in me loved this). Overall we had a great experience here and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice secluded camping experience.

This little hidden gem in Smithville, TX is worth shouting about. The owner, Craig, is a great host. He has put together a really nice place for folks to either stop and camp? Or stopover, sleep, and get moving again. We were the latter. However, no matter how short our stay, we were still impressed by the warmth of our greeting, the hospitality offered, and the pretty spot we found ourselves in. Do not miss it!
