Find extreme solitude and unforgettable views of Guadalupe Peak at this desert escape next to Guadalupe Mountains National Park! This is choose-your-own-adventure camping. The terrain is rugged, and the dust and wind blow some nights. Once you're here, there are zero amenities (other than picnic tables). If this sounds fine — you don't mind roughing it — you'll be sleeping under the stars at the foot of West Texas' tallest mountain range. And who else can say they've done that? BURN BAN IN EFFECT: Unfortunately, we are under a countywide burn ban. Do you not even care anymore? Then you might as well camp next to our storage container. It's 50 yards off the highway and 11 miles to the Guadalupe Peak trailhead. Your car will need at least four inches of ground clearance to handle the dirt road to the site. No lowriders!

Camp among the ocotillo and yucca as you bask in epic views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak!  We have three picnic tables scattered around the property and two portable toilet chairs for emergencies (no toilet paper provided). Otherwise, there are zero amenities here. No water, no shelter. Also, Far West Texas can be windy and dusty. If that's no problem, you'll have 20 acres of open desert to find and create your home away from home. There are shovels and rakes if you want to clear your own campsite. Also, feel free to add onto the rock fire rings! Ocotillo Grande is accessible to vehicles that have at least 6 inches of ground clearance and can handle dirt roads, so it's a great option for people who will be arriving via car or compact SUV (unlike our other site, Guad Amighty, where a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required). Please note: We've received feedback that Ocotillo Grande's bumpy trails are not suitable for smaller cars or large RVs. Campers who enjoy their time in this special place are the ones who are self-reliant, embrace the adventure, and don't mind roughing it in the middle of nowhere. When you book Ocotillo Grande, you will receive arrival instructions via email. It's important that you read these instructions carefully. Looking for a campsite with the closest, most breathtaking views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak? Well, you found it! This site is 30 acres, and you are welcome to camp anywhere on the property. I like the spot where I put a fire pit and picnic table next to three tall yuccas. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also hike to the top of the hill for epic views in all directions (and a mere 4.5 miles from El Capitan). Totally up to you! This is a remote desert campsite, and you will have to drive a couple of miles on a sandy trail that is prone to sudden washouts. If you get stuck, it's extremely difficult to find help. Proceed with caution! If you don't have a high-clearance 4WD vehicle or aren't comfortable driving on uneven dirt roads, please check out our other amazing site, Ocotillo Grande. It's much closer to the highway and is also really special. For RVs, camper vans, and travel trailers, you really do need high clearance and rugged 4WD, no exceptions.

Willow Hill

Camp on 10 secluded acres across the highway from our main gate and 9 miles from Guadalupe Mountains National Park. There are no amenities here, but you are welcome to build a fire ring and fix up your site using the rocks you find on the property. Basically, you are pioneering the site for yourself and future campers! The camping area is brushy and is nestled between a tall hill and a large stand of desert willow trees. Small RVs only: You have to make a tight turn at the entrance and pull through a narrow 9-foot-wide gate. Then you drive on an unmaintained dirt road to access this site. So I don't recommend large RVs. Expect highway noise. Otherwise, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and you’ll have the land all to yourself! Coordinates: 31.7915387, -104.8639316

Escape the elements when you stay in Li'l Capitan, our 20-foot container camp next to Guadalupe Mountains National Park! Relax on the rooftop deck and enjoy a sky full of stars plus incredible views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak, the tallest mountain in Texas. Our little shelter has a queen-size sleeping platform. BYO bedding, water and toilet paper! We have electricity and are trying our best to put in an outhouse by the end of February ... just in time for spring break! For now, there is a portable toilet for emergencies, but we usually take care of business in the national park. Our place is definitely a work-in-progress, but it's ready enough for people to enjoy. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Had an awesome stay at Ocotillo Grande! Pricing was excellent and worth every penny, good communication with Host throughout process. Directions were clear, gate and tent sites were super easy to find and no issues with 2WD sedan negotiating dirt roads. I barely noticed or heard traffic on Highway 62/180 and the views were amazing. If you like seclusion this is a much better option than GuadalupeMtnsNP as their sites (particularly RV) are on top of each other. Would definitely HipCamp here again

Absolutely stunning view of the Guadalupe Mountains and the incredible night sky. 10-15 minutes away from hikes in the park. Clear directions to campsite, and there was a little light as well at my site. Thank you for letting me have an unforgettable stay!

We had such an incredible stay here! The views are absolutely unreal — wide open desert, big skies (I have never seen so many stars) and the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It truly feels remote and peaceful, which is exactly what we were looking for. You can see a few other campers in the distance, but they’re spaced far enough apart that it still feels very private and quiet. We originally booked Guad Almighty but ended up staying at Ocotillo Grande due to the weather, and it worked out perfectly. Even with the switch, the views and layout were amazing and we had plenty of space. The wind was INSANE during our stay, but honestly it kind of added to the adventure — and our tent held up great. Just definitely come prepared for true desert conditions! If you’re looking for a remote desert escape with tons of privacy and incredible views, this spot delivers. Easy drive over to Guadalupe (10 min!) and up to Carlsbad Caverns as well. We would absolutely stay again!

Incredible stay!!! Perfect for my first campout in the West. A BLM feel with a breath taking view of El Capitan. Peaceful, serene and secure. Had the whole place to myself for my 2 day stay. I arrived at night around 10:30 pm. Gate was easy to find and the combo lock was fairly easy to use. (Just make sure you find the lock with GG on it.) I was taken by the full moon lighting up the desert night. Picturesque!!! Just 7 miles away from the Guadalupe Mountain National Park made it convenient to visit. I went by the camp ground in the park and it’s basically a parking lot. So glad I chose to boondock at Good Gaud instead. Highly recommend!

Li'l Capitan Cabin
This was the perfect desert stay! We were really cozy and protected from all the high winds, and had super easy access to the National Park. It was also nice because it would get cold at night and then warm up for the evening when we got back. Once this container has power I think it will be even more ideal even through the summer too!

Host had great communication! The campsite was easy to access and conveniently located close to the road. You can hear some cars but the road gets quieter as the night goes on. Worked great for our one night stop on the way to the nearby national parks!

Wes’s campsite is awesome! It’s in an incredible location, I got there after dark and woke up to the most insane view. Its well marked and easy to find, and I felt safe with the locked gate.

Just south of Guadeloupe National Park and its peaks. Beautiful. Others have mentioned Hwy 62 noise, which is "always there," but not a real detriment to the desert experience. Basically we loved the site/experience. Wes was very helpful in advance of our stay. I would say that I may not understand the fire ban. I do "fire ecology," and at that site, if folks bring their own firewood, I see little chance for problem even with high wind. There were even some decent fire pits already built. But people with more local knowledge would know way better. For future campers, the entrance gate may be a challenge. I work at a federal site where fence gates may have 3-4 different locks that reflect different users. At Good Guad I think I counted 16-17 locks at the gate. Maybe all necessary?? Don't know. I do know it would be confusing for many folks. So Wes, maybe provide a little more info to campers on what to expect at the gate? Overall a GREAT night! Wes helped us in advance about arrival time, reservation, etc. Very clean sites. Totally recommend it. If you find trash from previous campers, pick it up.

The camp is right off the highway in a beautiful location. It has an amazing view of the surrounding location and Guadalupe Peak and provided an incredible sunset/sunrise experience. It was the perfect combination of feeling private and remote while still being right outside the National Park. I highly recommend this spot and will be saving for future trips.

Beautiful location- nothing like sunrise & sunset with El Capitan in view. Glad we arrived pre-sunset which is definitely recommended. Better views than BLM land nearby. We hiked Guadalupe peak and drive was <20 min in total.

Great spot to for a an overnight or two of visiting the nearby National Parks. The picnic tables were spaced far enough away so you didn’t feel close to any neighbors. Was clean and exactly what we needed.

This site is right off the highway, but it feel remote with open skies and views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak. The sunsets are unreal and we enjoyed our stay out here away from the crowds.

Had the best experience! We had the campground by ourself and felt safe! I love the views of the Guadalupe Mountains and how close we were to the park. Did hear the noise of cars passing by on the highway but it helped me fall asleep so I didn’t mind.
