Find extreme solitude and unforgettable views of Guadalupe Peak at this desert escape next to Guadalupe Mountains National Park! This is choose-your-own-adventure camping. The terrain is rugged, and the dust and wind blow some nights. Once you're here, there are zero amenities (other than picnic tables). If this sounds fine — you don't mind roughing it — you'll be sleeping under the stars at the foot of West Texas' tallest mountain range. And who else can say they've done that? Camp among the ocotillo and yucca as you bask in epic views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak!  We have four picnic tables scattered around the property and two portable toilet chairs for emergencies (no toilet paper provided). Otherwise, there are zero amenities here. No water, no shelter. Also, Far West Texas can be windy and dusty. If that's no problem, you'll have 20 acres of open desert to find and create your home away from home. There are shovels and rakes if you want to clear your own campsite. Also, feel free to add onto the rock fire rings! Ocotillo Grande is accessible to vehicles that have at least 6 inches of ground clearance and can handle dirt roads, so it's a great option for people who will be arriving via car or compact SUV (unlike our other site, Guad Amighty, where a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required). Please note: We've received feedback that Ocotillo Grande's bumpy trails are not suitable for small cars or large RVs. Campers who enjoy their time in this special place are the ones who are self-reliant, embrace the adventure, and don't mind roughing it in the middle of nowhere. When you book Ocotillo Grande, you will receive arrival instructions via email. It's important that you read these instructions carefully. Attention: You'll need a high-clearance 4WD vehicles for this site. Looking for a campsite with the closest, most breathtaking views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak? Well, you found it! This site is 30 acres, and you are welcome to camp anywhere on the property. I like the spot where I put a fire pit and picnic table next to three tall yuccas. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also hike to the top of the hill for epic views in all directions. Totally up to you! This is a remote desert campsite, and you will have to drive a couple of miles on a sandy trail that is prone to sudden washouts. If you get stuck, it's extremely difficult to find help. Proceed with caution! For everyone who doesn't have a rugged 4WD vehicle, please check out our other amazing site, Ocotillo Grande. It's much closer to the highway and is also really special.

Beautiful location- nothing like sunrise & sunset with El Capitan in view. Glad we arrived pre-sunset which is definitely recommended. Better views than BLM land nearby. We hiked Guadalupe peak and drive was <20 min in total.

This site is right off the highway, but it feel remote with open skies and views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak. The sunsets are unreal and we enjoyed our stay out here away from the crowds.

Had the best experience! We had the campground by ourself and felt safe! I love the views of the Guadalupe Mountains and how close we were to the park. Did hear the noise of cars passing by on the highway but it helped me fall asleep so I didn’t mind.

I can not say enough about Good Gaud locations and Wes. My first day was at the 4WD spot. It is named 4WD for a reason. Do not attempt in a 2WD or a low clearance vehicle. As you are driving the trail back to it you may have to improvise at certain points due to washouts and ruts. Watch the weather. There are two ravines you will cross and I would imagine a downpour would leave you stranded until the water subsided. For this reason I got with Wes and move to the spots closer to the road the second day because of the increased rain chances. These spots have just as good of a view and the spots are spaced far enough apart. These are very accessible to any low clearance 2WD vehicle. As far as the road noise from the highway. Yes you will hear it but really not that noticeable and starts to die down around 5:00 pm. Overall, I would rate this as one of the best primitive spots I have stayed on HipCamp. Thanks again Wes for letting us use your property and you were great with the quick responses.

Perfect place for RTT camping at Guadalupe Mountains! The national park only allows tent and RV camping, and Wes’s property is a great location with enough space to park your Vehichle and have enough room for setting up camp. The views of El Capitan are incredible, and is a great thing to wake up to before the big hike! The only thing to consider before you go camp out near the park is the weather. The area is out in the open, so make sure you plan your trip accordingly. Wes is super responsive and supportive. Prices are reasonable. You gotta book the campsite!

We really enjoyed camping here with our rooftop tent over our truck! The views were insane! Really beautiful and quiet spot, only some minimal road noise. Highly recommend if you want the dispersed camping vibes!

We ended up booking this spot super last minute. Sun was already going down once we arrived, but didnt have any issues finding the entrance or campsite. There's a picnic table on site, some solar lights around the campsite parameter, and the tent sites are soft enough you wont have any trouble driving your stakes down. Like others have mentioned, you can hear the highway noise some, so bring earplugs if youre an extremely light sleeper. The noise didnt bother me any and never woke me up throughout the night. Great views of the Guadalupe Mountains, and not too far from the visitors center.

Ocotillo Grande was a very welcome change from the crowded state parks I had camped in the three previous nights. Primitive dispersed camping is the best and this site delivered! The views were spectacular too. If I come this way again, this will be my go to spot.

This place was fabulous! We were the only campers there during our stay and we enjoyed it so much! The land is gated, and my 11 year old son and I both felt really safe. We had wonderful views of El Capitan and the Guadalupe mountains and excellent stargazing. The highway noise was a little loud, but worth it for the experience. Thanks!!

The views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak were great. Site was located close to the park entrance. I enjoyed the secluded tent camping. I texted the host a couple times to ask questions about the site. He was very informative and answered in a timely manner.
