Dispersed camping is available on a 12-acre property just 10 minutes from downtown The Dalles. The land offers a beautiful view of Mt. Hood and a partial view of Mt. Adams, featuring sunsets that will truly take your breath away. Our property is located within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, an 80-mile stretch of protected land that stands as the largest national scenic area in the United States. This region is world-renowned for its high concentration of waterfalls, endless hiking trails, sweeping vistas, and iconic scenic drives. We offer one very large dispersed camping site on the property with easy road access. The site is very secluded, flat, and private, but it is completely undeveloped. Vehicles with higher clearances are recommend. However, parking along the gravel road is also an option. For those looking to explore on foot, there is a stunning hike to a nearby bird sanctuary. The trail follows a scenic ridge for several miles, providing constant views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, the Columbia River, and the surrounding cherry orchards. If you visit from mid-April to mid-May, you will find the property completely transformed, as it becomes covered in vibrant Balsamroot and a variety of other local wildflowers. You will not find a more secluded site, with such stunning views and access to a bird sanctuary in the Columbia River Gorge.Top of the world site is located at the very top of the property. This site is very secluded. Campers cannot see our home from this site and will not be camped near anyone else. It’s completely private! This site is also just a short walk to the entrance of a bird sanctuary. This protected area boasts stunning views of Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and the Columbia River. The site is a large meadow located directly off of the main gravel road. This site is not developed and very rugged. There are plenty of flat spots, but better suited for a vehicle with higher clearance as there are some boulders. The boulders are marked with fluorescent pink flags. However, campers with vehicles with lower clearances are also welcome to park next to the dispersed camping area. To access the bird sanctuary from this site, walk up the gravel road, once you reach the top of the road, turn right and continue on the road that follows the ridge. The road will stop at the entrance of the bird sanctuary. Please stay on the roads and trail of the bird sanctuary as only the road is permitted for use. You will not find a more private camping site with access to public land in The Gorge and with such stunning views.
