Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Come stay at our little sustainable farmstead amid the beautiful rolling hills of southern Ohio! Our peaceful 20 acres has a good mix of woods, wild meadows and maintained cleared areas as well as a small pond, all of which can be explored via our nature trail. Enjoy the sounds of nature and an incredible night sky. FIREWOOD and seasonal farm goods are available for purchase at a self-serve stand (several payment options available). There is also a wonderful sauna on the property that can be reserved (go to sauna to reserve a time). Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1). ***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. If you are looking for a place to be loud and party into the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend some quality time in nature, welcome. There are rules.

Site #3: This site is situated in the woods, just beyond the pond (to the right) and overlooks a small creek. It is completely shaded when the trees have their leaves and is quite private, despite being right next to the stage. Good hammock trees! The site is easily accessible and offers a picnic table and small fire ring and is just a short walk (1 min) to the pond and privy. (2 minute walk from parking, however, it is possible to drive down around the pond for unloading, if necessary, when the ground is dry. Please stay on the pond levee and then park near gate after unloading). This site can accommodate 2-3 large tents or 5+ smaller tents. See photos. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little self-serve shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time). Please note that the stage area is not part of site 3 so please keep all belongings within your site.

Site 4 (juniper meadow)

99%
(118)
Tent site · Sleeps 8
Site #4: This site is situated on the back half of the property in a peaceful field dotted with shrubby cedar trees (it's a decent 3-5 min hike from parking). Located near the edge of the woods, just beyond the creek, site 4 offers great sunsets and views of the night sky. It is not possible to drive to this site, as you will have to cross a small creek/ravine by a narrow bridge and continue down a short trail through the woods, including a steep slope (about 100m from the unloading area... wheelbarrow available upon request). It's a little bit more work to get to this site but you'll have a few peaceful acres all to yourselves (out of sight from all other sites). This site offers privacy, a picnic table and small fire ring. It is a short walk (3 min) to the pond and parking and very close to Privy #2. The site is flat and grassy with space for 3-4 large tents or 7 small tents. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little self-serve shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time).

Site 5 (woodland gully)

Tent site · Sleeps 6
Site #5: This site is situated in the woods, beyond the pond and across the ravine, and overlooks a small creek. It is completely shaded when the trees have their leaves. Good hammock trees! It is not possible to drive to this site, as you will have to cross a small creek/ravine by a narrow bridge and continue down a short trail through the woods, including a steep slope (about 100m from the unloading area... you're welcome to use any wagons you see, just return them). It's a little bit more work to get to this site, but it offers good shade, a picnic table and a small fire ring. It is a short walk (2-3 min) to the pond and parking. Privy #2 is within a minute walk. This site is not well suited for huge tents (see photos for layout) but can accomodate 3 smaller tents. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little self-serve shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time).

Site 1 (flat hilltop)

99%
(57)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 15 · Vehicles under 25 ft
Site #1: (NOTICE: THIS SITE MOVED IN 2024. ANY PRIOR REVIEWS DO NOT APPLY TO THE CURRENT LOCATION) This is our only campsite that you can drive to and park at. It is a flattened hilltop with about 50'x70' of flat open space; plenty of room for a small camper or RV (no hookups and no generators, please) and/or several tents. The site is visible from the road, so it's not very secluded. However, it is set back against a tree line and offers a very nice view of the orchard, garden and the night sky (this is the place to be for watching the full moon rise, a meteor shower or other astronomical event). The site is surrounded by a large grassy field and is a quick walk to the pond, which has a little dock for sitting to watch the koi and the sunset. The site has a picnic table and a fire pit. Guests will have access to a shared composting toilet and the self-serve firewood shed on the back side of the pond (100ft walk), as well as about 1 mile of groomed nature trails throughout the 20 acre property. While the site is within view of the road, it's a pretty quiet country road. Please note that there are neighbors. You may hear some occasional dogs barking, ATVs going by or even a gunshot once in a while. This is normal for this area. That being said, it's a very peaceful place the majority of the time. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time).

The Whole Darn Place

100%
(6)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 100 · Vehicles under 25 ft
Rent the entire property for your private gathering or retreat! The site is ideal for a rustic outdoor retreat, group campout or micro-wedding. The 20 acre property is in a beautiful natural setting on a quiet country road with close proximity to several outdoor recreation opportunities (hiking, swimming, disc golf, kayaking, boating, fishing, birding, climbing, et). If interested in booking The Whole Darn Place, it's best to book as far in advance as possible, as individual sites may get booked.  Any specifics (including extra guests) can be discussed with the host upon booking.  Just send me a message and we will see what can be arranged.  :) PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BOOKING  Reservation includes 5 designated campsites (each has space for 2-5 tents and its own fire ring and picnic table), three tiny off-grid cabins (Little Fern Cabin, the A-frame at the Cedar Sanctuary and the Sugar Shack Cabin: 2 people each) and exclusive access to the pond, stage, outdoor gazebo kitchen, nature trails and sauna. The campsites are spaced apart for privacy and there are three privies (simple outhouses) conveniently located throughout the property. There is ample parking in the field by the road and plenty of space for additional camping in the grassy areas. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little self-serve shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time). PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PROPERTY DOES NOT YET HAVE ELECTRICITY besides the solar power at the Fern Cabin and Gazebo kitchen. There are two spigots with potable water, as well as the gazebo sink (the sink is shut down in the cold months). ALL OF THE CAMPSITES ARE WALK-IN (it is not possible to drive to and park at the individual campsites besides site 1). Car camping is an option in the open field and at site 1. Also, this is a working farmstead and there's a chance the host will be working in the garden during your stay. The host's residence is on the property but with a separate entrance from the camping areas.

Cedar Sanctuary A-Frame (site 6)

99%
(83)
Cabin · Sleeps 2
Hidden away in a grove of cedar trees, this tiny A-frame cabin (10'x10' footprint) is cozy and secluded, well out of view from other campsites and with great views of the night sky.  A perfect getaway for couples, the cabin is furnished with a full sized bed with memory foam mattress, clean bedding, a small table, solar lighting, a usb mini fan (bring your own power bank) and a portable propane heater in the cold months.  The site offers a picnic table, fire pit, a grate for cooking over the fire, two chairs and a hammock.  There is no electricity but there are solar string lights both inside the cabin and above the picnic table, which provide ample light.  A shared outhouse with a composting toilet is located just 30ft from the cabin. Parking is available near the road and there will be a moderate walk (5-10 minutes) to the site, including a steep hill at the creek crossing (wagons/wheel barrows are available for hauling gear).  Enjoy a campfire under the stars and fall asleep to the sounds of crickets, frogs and owls.     There is a small pond on the property with a little dock that is great for swimming on hot days (bring your pool floats!) and there is a little nature trail (3/4 mile) that is accessible right from the campsite (follow the wooden signs).    FIREWOOD is self serve (there are several payment options) and can be purchased at the little wood shed on the way back to your site. 1lb propane canisters (for the portable heater) are also for sale at the farm stand by the wood shed, or you can bring your own. There is a wonderful SAUNA on the property that you may reserve by the hour (go to the sauna to reserve a time).

Sugar Shack Cabin

98%
(65)
Cabin · Sleeps 3
The perfect woodsy getaway for an adventurous couple or a few friends. Accessible only on foot (0.15 mile hike down a narrow trail through the forest with a small slope), this rustic and cozy little cabin (120sq ft) is tucked far back into the woods and next to a small stream. Backpacking your gear in is recommended. There are plenty of comforts awaiting you at the cabin. The sugar shack cabin was built almost entirely out of salvaged oak barn wood and is completely off-grid (no plumbing or electricity). There are some rechargeable lanterns provided but you will want to bring a headlamp or flashlight for getting around at night. The cabin is well insulated and with plenty of windows which offer 360 degree forest views and the wood burning stove will keep you cozy on cold nights.  There is a full-size bed in the loft (bedding provided, must use ladder) and a sofa, which serves as a comfy single bed (bring your own bedding for the sofa). The kitchenette has a 2-burner propane stove and basic cookware and dishes you would need to prepare simple meals. There is covered porch with a table and two chairs and a fire grate and a small charcoal grill for cooking. 5 gallons of potable table tap water are provided for drinking and cooking. Water can be refilled at a spigot near the parking area. A simple composting privy is just outside the cabin and there is a second, shared, bathroom at the host residence (about 75m away) with a hot shower, sink and composting toilet. There is a fire ring beside the cabin and some nature trails to explore through the forest.  The pond nearby (5 min walk) has a little dock and is great for swimming on hot days. Firewood and farm goods can be purchased at a little self-serve shed near the stage (several payment options available). There is a wonderful sauna that can be reserved for a fee (go to the sauna for information and to reserve a time). Things to bring:  cooler, food/bevs, headlamp/flashlight, portable power bank for charging devices, towel, bluetooth speaker, books/games, hammock, etc.   More info is provided at the cabin.
