Cabin · Sleeps 2This quaint, little (8'x12') off-grid guest cabin was once a donkey shed on a farm located about 8 miles away. Tucked back into a cluster of cedar and locust trees, this simple cabin, although not far from the road, is secluded and is mostly shaded in the summer. It is well insulated and has plenty of windows. The cabin offers a full-sized comfy bed (must use step stool) with clean bedding, a large dresser, a desk, chair, bookcase and solar electricity. A covered porch with two comfy chairs is perfect for sitting and relaxing at any point in the day. There is also a small outdoor dining area with a fire pit, gas grill and refrigerator (unplugged in winter). This cabin enjoys exclusive access to the gazebo kitchen which is well equipped with a sink (water is potable), 3-burner propane stove and all of the essential cookware for preparing a full meal. You will find a french press for making coffee. A simple outhouse with a composting toilet is located just steps away from the cabin.
Parking is available near the road and there will be a very short walk (1minute) to the cabin.
Firewood is self serve and can be purchased at the little wood shed on the back side of the pond (there are several payment options). There you will see signs directing you to the nature trails and sauna. The sauna can be reserved upon arrival and all of the instructions are posted (go to the sauna to reserve a time).
Please note that the solar power to the cabin and gazebo is sufficient for running the lights, charging small devices and running a small fan, but will not power larger appliances such as slow cookers and heated blankets.
The area offers plenty to do offsite, including hiking, biking, birding, disc golfing, kayaking, boating and swimming at the nearby state parks and the highlands nature sanctuary. You will also find several Amish businesses nearby and grabbing lunch at the Country Crust Bakery is a must (the pretzel bun sandwiches are a big hit)! More info will be posted at the cabin.
***IN WINTER*** A small propane heater will be provided inside the cabin. The gazebo sink will be disconnected, however, jugs can be filled from the frost-free hydrant beside the gazebo.
