The Summit Cabin
We had such a great time visiting the summit cabin, and it was equipped with everything you would typically need on a camping trip! Hans was very nice and brought all of our things to the cabin, and we hiked the steep but beautiful trail up to the summit. We brought our two dogs that absolutely loved running around the property, and we even explored the trails in the woods behind the cabin and they were endless. We went on a chilly weekend, and were so surprised at how warm the gas units inside got to warm up the cabin! Such a beautiful cabin, and we cannot wait to come back again.

We had such a great time at the Waldhaus cabin! It’s so secluded and beautiful - plus we even saw a Blue Ghost firefly.
If you’re thinking about booking this, make sure you’re prepared to walk 15-20 min up a VERY steep mud hill. It was so worth it, but keep that in mind :)

The Summit Cabin
We had a great weekend with our two dogs surrounded by nature. The hike up sure is steep and we would say it’s not for anyone who is out of shape especially if you plan on making additional trips down to sightsee over your stay, which we did to Asheville. (We did find a great walking stick along the way and left it at the base camp too in case it lives on) Hans is so hospitable and gave great instructions for the cabin that he built so well, it’s a great balance of modern and rustic. There is still cell service so if you’re looking to unplug, Airplane Mode is needed. We hope the Summit continues to provide great experiences like this for years to come, it is a gem.

Stayed in at The Summit cabin for two nights with my girlfriend, It was a lovely time, very relaxing and quiet! The property owner, Hans is a super laid-back, intelligent, soulful man and respected our space and time! He is a joy to be around! I’d recommend this place if you’re looking to unplug and feel free! (we also ran into Asheville on day… only a 30 minute drive)

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend at a charming off-grid sawmill, and we can’t stop raving about our experience! Nestled in the heart of nature, this unique getaway offered us the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure, far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The sawmill, with its rustic charm, was meticulously maintained and set against a backdrop of towering trees. It was the ideal spot to disconnect and recharge.
Our host, Hans, was nothing short of exceptional. Warm and welcoming, he made us feel right at home. One of the highlights of our stay was when he graciously brought us dinner one night. The meal was not only delicious. It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly exemplified the level of care and attention he puts into hosting his guests.
The accommodations were cozy and comfortable, with everything we needed for our off-grid experience. We loved waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying our breakfast on the porch, taking in the fresh air.
Whether you’re looking to explore the surrounding trails, relax by the fire, or simply enjoy a peaceful escape, this sawmill retreat has it all. We left feeling rejuvenated and grateful.

This was my second time staying at the summit and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The hike up is steep, so I do recommend hiking boots and trekking poles. But the peaceful isolation makes it worth it. It was a perfect location for my retreat, and Hans is always a gracious host.

The Summit Cabin
We had the best time staying at our lovely cabin on top of the hill. Incredible views, very quiet and serene, and a nice getaway. Be prepared for the hike up to the cabin - it’s steep but very manageable! Our host, Hans, was responsive, kind, and made us feel very welcome. We hope to find ourselves back here one day!

Description very accurate, who needs to drive to a trail when you stay here? Nobody, the road is closed past the camper and makes for a moderately difficult hike up to the Blue ridge parkway and summit trails.
As Hans says, "most everything is in the camper". We cooked several fine meals mostly using tools and equipment provided.
The creek outside is very soothing, the toilet and shower worked great. The cats are not a negotiable experience with this lodging, they will keep an eye on you throughout your stay.
Highly recommend, would return for a longer stay!

Maybeline is a sweet set up. Cozy camper with covered porch and bathroom shower addition. Right next to Mineral Creek. Pablo (my dog) and I had a great hike up to the Blue Rdge Parkway.
Hans was a terrific attentive host. Definitely recommend staying here.

The Summit Cabin

Myself and 3 other guys spent 2 nights at the cabin and absolutely loved it. Hans was very responsive to any questions we had and made every effort to make our stay great. The cabin was very clean and it had everything we needed. I would highly recommend!

Han's cabin was a mini paradise for my friend and I. Do not let the steepness deter you. Han's was really helpful and took all our things up by in his atv and we were able to make the trek up there in about 8 mins. The cabin is definitely worth the hike. Like others suggested I recommend bringing some extra lights, a headlight per person and a lantern. I'd also recommend packing some extra water and blankets/sleeping bags. The cabin has a heater but just for comforts sake it was nice to have an extra blanket. Cabin also came with plenty of things to clean, cook and bathe which was nice. The extra aspects like the archery area and firepit were beautiful and the cabin is literally connected to a trail leading into Pisgah National Forest. Again I can't recommend enough and could go on about how great of a host Hans was and how beautiful the cabin is. We'll definitely be making another visit!

Host was extremely rude . Ended up leaving early and not getting refunded any. Ran out of propane for the only heat there on the second night.and water couldn’t take showers. Horrible

My wife and I loved our time in The Summit Cabin. Hans had everything prepared, so we were able to pack quite minimally. He even had a bag of ice in the cooler and a gallon of drinking water waiting for us. The hike up and down was steep but otherwise enjoyable (we brought trekking poles, which helped), and Hans was able to transport our gear up and down in his UTV. Overall it was a great experience, and we’re looking forward to going again someday! Btw, say hello to Elwood — he’s the fluffiest and sweetest cat 🐈⬛🙂

Hans’s place was exactly as advertised! Incredible cabin equipped with everything you need, but still has that primitive feeling. The hike up was more challenging than expected, but luckily Han took care of the heavy stuff for us. Our trip was still awesome even though the weather put a damper on the trip. The cabin was cozy and my wife and I didn’t mind sitting on the porch enjoying the rain. It’s perfect if you have a pet too. Our two pups had a great time. Hans provides pretty much everything you need in the cabin to cook, bathe and sleep so it’s easy to pack light. Overall was a great experience and look forward to returning. Thank you Hans!

Couldn’t ask for a better late fall/winter camping spot. The cabin is warm and cozy and has almost any amenities you would have at home. Great views and remote location make for a peaceful getaway. Hans was a gracious host and prompt in communication. He provided good recommendations for local spots. Overall the summit cabin is a 10/10. The short hike is worth the stay.

I had a great time staying at the cabin with my friends. It's definitely very remote and a steep but fun hike up to the cabin. Highly recommend arriving before sunset, bringing sturdy hiking boots, and bringing an extra warm blanket.
This is definitely not "glamping". I'd call it a step above sleeping in the tent but it has its own charm. I loved my stay and would recommend to my adventure seeking friend's haha

I loved this spot. It’s totally out of the way and off the grid, and when you wake up in the morning you’re greeted by Elwood and Annie, the two cutest, fluffiest, meowiest cats imaginable! Pack treats for them! Hans is an incredibly kind and responsive host and the camper was VERY easy to find even though I was arriving after midnight.

The Summit Cabin
Beautiful land and views. Few things to know, bring plenty of water, good shoes and an adventure spirit. That will carry you in your journey. Hans is a super kind person, attentive and responsive. He was patient as we figured out new experiences with an off grid space and compost toilet. The climb up is challenging, bring the right shoes and supports. Hans was awesome with that too, he helped my mom have shoe support so she was able to do the climb down! He really supports the purpose of the cabin and self sufficiency. The cabin has a way of taking you to a different place in your mind and body that is rewarding.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Summit Cabin. Hans has created the perfect, cozy sanctuary of solitude. We enjoyed making campfires and hiking around the area. We would definitely love to return again someday!
