We stayed at John’s Creekside campsite and honestly couldn't have asked for better. The site is tucked away in the trees with nothing but the sound of the creek and birdsong; quiet, serene, and exactly what we needed for a weekend getaway.
John went above and beyond from the start, meeting us at the top of the property and helping haul all of our gear down to the creek in one trip, using his tractor and trailer.
A surprise highlight was getting to help feed his animals. He invited us to join during feeding time if it worked for our schedule (thankfully it did!), and we got to pet and hand-feed them. It was a sweet, hands-on moment that added something really special to the stay, especially if you’re an animal lover.
Between the peaceful setting and John’s kindness, it was one of the most relaxing getaways we’ve had in a long time. Already looking forward to coming back!

Very private and peaceful. Deerfield spot is huge and pretty level. Compact toilet was not located so plan on bringing your own potty. Still would 100% recommend and would stay again.

John met us at the farm and was very informative, told us the history of his farm and what all him and his wife do for the community. He gave me and my wife a tour of his farm and let us feed the animals. The site was very level and had a firepit. I highly recommend staying here and will most likely return in the future.

We can’t say enough about the hospitality that John provided on our stay this weekend.
Our Boy Scout troop needed an out-of-the-way place to camp while we explored and hiked Pilot Mtn State Park. It was perfect.
John went out of his way to make our weekend stay as good as possible.
I would highly recommend Papa’s Farm to a small or larger group looking for a quiet place to kick off your boots while enjoying the beautiful countryside.

This property is a great spot to relax and enjoy the view of Pilot Mountain. John is an excellent host, very welcoming and communicative. When we walked down to the farm area to pick up the eggs we added onto our stay, he showed us around the farm and introduced us to the animals. There’s also a really nice trail to a creek side swing. We were really impressed and hope to get back again!

This was my first time using the app and Papa’s Farm didn’t disappoint! I waited too long to book the site I wanted and both sites got booked. And he opened up another spot to accommodate me. Very beautiful place! Definitely recommend!

Wow, what a terrific spot and host. John is super friendly and helpful. The site is large, clean, flat, and shaded. I stayed 3 nights with my Daughter, Son In Law and 3 grandsons. They lived it as well. The boys lived meeting the farm animals and feeding them. Very quiet and peaceful. I will definitely stay again and highly recommend to all.

Really enjoyed our stay on John's farm. Felt like we had half a farm all to ourselves. Easy drives to nearby hiking. John was very welcoming and gave us a great tour of the farm. Definitely would go back.

We loved tent camping on Papa’s Farm. The place near creek was very private, clean, and cozy. The owners are friendly and responsive. Their animals are so cute. We were lucky to watch new born turkey babies, donkeys and piggies.

Great place to stay and was very accommodating of us getting there relatively late. Only has a composting toilet but better than nothing. Would definitely recommend staying here if hanging rock state park is booked up. Plus it has better cell service and a view of pilot mountain.

My first Hipcamp experience was wonderful! John is a fantastic host who set things up perfectly for my weekend stay. He’s a wealth of knowledge and interesting background and experience. I really enjoyed learning about the different farm animals and other wildlife trivia. I’ll never look at donkeys and crows quite the same way again. 😁
This campsite was exactly what I was looking for, and I will definitely return.

John was amazing. He met us the morning we checked in and immediately offered to help us load our things to the campsite with his tractor. He then showed our kids the animals, helped them feed them and pet them and was very engaged and sweet to both our boys. He has a few dogs that are great company and very well behaved and got along with our pup. He let the boys pick eggs the following morning and gave us fresh lettuce from his garden. The site itself has ample space for any activity you could bring along, complete with a wooden swing next to the creek. It’s a beautiful site. He sets it up with a table, fresh water and an outhouse. The site comes with an in ground fire pit. I would absolutely return, and plan to next year. Thank you so much John for making our weekend memorable and enjoyable!

My husband and I had an awesome time at Papa’s Farm. The host, John, is so incredibly friendly and clearly loves sharing his farm with others. He was so accommodating- more than we ever expected. The campsite is situated right on the creek, which is so serene and calm. It was close enough to the house that we felt safe, but secluded enough that we felt we had the place all to ourselves. John let us use any surrounding wood that had already fallen to the ground for firewood, which was so nice not having to “buy” actual firewood- a lot of other places state you must buy your ownWhen we arrived. He even had a large freshly filled water cooler and a compostable toilet in the campsite, which we weren’t expecting but was so great. John helped us carry all our gear to the site on his tractor, which was so kind and helpful. We absolutely adored all the friendly animals and made sure to give them all their daily attention and pets! While in the area we explored Hanging Rock State Park (about 20 minutes from the site) and Pilot Mountain (about 12 minutes). We also ate at a charming little restaurant on our way out of town, The Tilted Ladder, which I highly recommend for a low-key lunch atmosphere. All in all, this was a fabulous weekend getaway!

We loved camping at Papa John’s! Our kids loved Papa John and the farm. Such good people out there, we definitely want to go back. Had a lot of space & a wonderful view at Deer Field.

Chickens and pigs and donkeys oh my! Papa John’s farm was an amazing camping spot. There is lots to do and many animals to pet. I came with my dog and my grandmother, John made us feel like family. His farm is conveniently located near town but secluded enough to spend the night listening to the crickets and the crackling of our fire. 10/10 Would recommend staying here!

We cannot recommend papa’s farm enough! He is such an amazing and interesting host. Feeding the animals was the cherry on top! You have to try the chicken eggs they are amazing!

Papa John’s land is the first Hipcamp I’ve ever visited twice! My first time at the creekside sight, it was beautiful, secluded, well-kept, and close enough to the house to feel safe. We didn’t experience a lot of wildlife activity at night and felt safe with the guardian dogs protecting the property. Papa John has given me fresh produce from his garden both times I’ve been, helped us carry all our gear down to the sight, and made sure we had dry firewood. Such a great spot!

Papa John could arguably be the nicest human alive. The creekside location is secluded. You’ll be exposed to the wildlife but each farmhouse in the surrounding area seemed to be equipped with an abundance of watch dogs.
The fresh eggs were great and my boys enjoyed feeding the animals and playing in the creek.
15 minute ride to Pilot Mountain State Park.

We absolutely loved staying at Papa's Farm. The location is amazing for its view of Pilot Mountain and its proximity to so many outdoor experiences as well as stores, wineries, and cute towns. The site itself is nice and private with a great fire pit (seriously, the venting makes super hot fires), shade, and plenty of space for a dog to run, explore, and sniff. I highly recommend taking advantage of the farm tour and meeting the animals, seeing the gardens, and just listening to John talk. He is incredibly knowledgable and just a really great, interesting person to have met. We also loved walking down to the creek on the property and it was a great spot for our dog to play!
