Learn more about this land: Our little homestead is run by a mother daughter team. We raise sheep, chickens and grow a large garden and several fruit and nut orchards. We are also in process of building structures using mostly natural materials. You are welcome to hike into our woods to find a private spot near the waterfall or higher up the mountain. Also feel free to stroll through our pastures spotted with peaches and hazelnuts and watch the sheep graze. Note: RVs and large trailers cannot be driven onto our property due to the curvature and narrowness of our driveway.This historic tobacco barn-turned-studio apartment is tucked beneath witch hazel, birch and cherry trees alongside a mountain stream. Equipped with a working kitchen (mini fridge, potable sink, kitchenware, and propane range), a dining nook, living area (with a futon sofa bed), composting toilet, piano and 2 beds (1 queen and 1 twin), this barn studio is a rustic and charming get-away for an individual, couple, or small group or family. There is an outside table perched next to the creek as well as a private swimming hole and shower built into the creek just steps away from your front door. The kitchen sink and shower are fed from potable spring water- there is no hot water in provided. This is a 3 season accommodation, as the uninsulated exterior walls were built to be highly ventilated to cure harvested tobacco leaves 70 some years ago, and so there is some exposure to the outside world (including bugs and critters). There are bug nets installed on each bed! The ventilated walls also help to moderate the temperature on hot summer days, while the nights usually settle to a cool 65 degrees. The old 1930's farmhouse, where the hosts live, sits nearby, yet the windows and front door face away from there, giving full privacy to your indoor and outdoor space. This barn sits amongst a working homestead, cared for by a mother-daughter team. Feel free to walk the grounds- we have many projects and systems to see and learn about including sheep, chickens, a large vegetable garden, several fruit and nut orchards as well as natural construction projects. We offer a 30 minute tour as an optional addition to your experience here. There is also a network of logging trails on our 54 acres which has been created into suitable hiking trails. There is a map of these trails provided for you to use. We are 30 minutes from downtown Marshall, a funky and vibrant small town in the satellite of Asheville. At the beginning of our road (20 minute drive away) is one of the most famous white water rafting sites in the region, there are several companies to guide you down the French Broad River there. We also are 40 minutes from the town of Hot Springs, a resting point for many Appalachian Trail hikers. There are countless hiking trails 30-45 minutes away from us.

This was such a magical place to spend the night, I wish we would’ve had more time here. It’s on a beautiful property and it was so lovely to fall asleep to the sound of the roaring river. Definitely would love to come back!

I couldn’t say enough nice things about this spot. It’s GORGEOUS! You fall asleep and wake up to the sound of a waterfall, it’s so peaceful. The barn itself is so cute. We were there for a girls camping/slumber party weekend, and it was just the perfect backdrop in every way. Briana and her mom were so kind, and really responsive when we needed something. It really was a 10/10 experience.

This was a wonderful stay. The barn had essentials and was as beautiful and rustic as the pictures. Hosts were responsive and helpful during our stay. My pup loved getting to explore the trails and getting in the water. My only note is to confirm your route to get to the homestead goes through Walnut. Coming from Georgia, my GPS directed us up the mountain and led to a dirt road that was too steep for my car to make it up and drove an additional hour around the mountain to the other side with limited cell service, having to ask a neighbor for directions once nearby. Once we did find it, it was worth all the effort! There were plenty of blankets when I was a little less prepared for the cool nights. We will be back!

Roaring creek- fantastic adventure!

Great place! My daughter and I enjoyed staying here. Far away from town and close to a roaring creek. Nature surrounds you. Cozy beds and a gas stove in the kitchen. The cabin is large enough you could fit a tent in it if you wanted 😉. Table and couch and a close by composting toilet. Plus excellent wifi. Would make a fantastic place to write a book or work remote. Now that its getting cooler- make sure you pack warm clothes and a flashlight 💕

I wish we could bring the sound of the creek with us. Brianna was so generous with her knowledge as well. Best part was probably there being no mosquitoes even at this time in summer. Being so exposed to the outside was actually nice without the worry of being bitten all over.

I had a truly lovely time at the studio barn being immersed in nature! The waterfall is right next to you and creates a unique experience with many trails on the property to roam. The host was extremely kind and generous, it was a pleasure to meet her and hear about her homestead. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a little adventure/oasis and to gain insight and education into farm life!

Such a great stay that we added an extra night! The perfect blend of on site amenities like a propane cook top and water to wash up, and time in nature. Enjoyed walking around the property and the sound of the creek all night. Will probably book another stay here in the fall, I'm sure it's beautiful.

Really beautiful, rural spot! Such a cozy, peaceful campsite right by the stream. Well kept amenities! Only downside is it's a bit of a long, winding (but gorgeous) drive outside of Marshall proper. Not an ideal drive if you're looking to be out late in Asheville, but perfect if you're looking hang out and hike around the local area!

The house was a bit closer to the campsite than expected, but the hosts were there and ready to help when we had a wasp sting emergency! (explore the tobacco barn at your own risk haha). The property is very beautiful and remote and the stream running right behind the campsite is so peaceful. A perfect way to celebrate a birthday with friends.

It was our first camping trip with our 11 month old & it was a great place to start out with. Very peaceful, we LOVED the firefly’s with a bonfire at night & our daughter really loved the sheep and standing in the creek. Very accommodating hosts!

The camp spot on Brianna’s homestead farm was perfectly serene. Sited nearby a gently babbling stream: soothing sleep music. At night the fireflies sparkled gorgeously in the trees and raspberry bushes. Brianna is a generous host! She left a sweet vase of wildflowers for us on the picnic table. The instructions sent for getting to the farm are clear. This place is special.

Thank you for sharing the land with me, a peaceful and quiet stay as my first official hipcamp experience. Taking a little stroll around the farm was refreshing and spending time with the animals endearing. Clean compost toilet and spring water! 😍 and well maintained camping area were all appreciated! Only stayed one night with the fireflies dancing amongst the stars. I did not meet Brianna in person, communication was clear and Brianna was responsive via messaging 🌻

What a wonderful campsite right next to the stream. The sound of water rushing at night was magical. The waterfall nearby was just a short walk & so worth it. Other trails lead to interesting discoveries. We enjoyed visiting the sheep & chickens nearby. The hosts generously offered us fresh eggs that were wonderful. Definitely would recommend to anyone seeking a peaceful spot by the water with no other campers nearby.

Brianna's land is lovely with a natural spring sink and great toilet/shower! Sadly, our trip was cut short due to unprecedented rain and wind but Brianna was so accommodating and unexpectedly lovely about it. I hope we can make it back another time!

We had a great 1-night stay at Bri's farm. She was really communicative and gave us really detailed directions to the site. The campsite is down the hill from their house, right next to the babbling creek and a cozy fire pit. We bumped into her partner, who was really welcoming and directed us to various points of interest around the property. We fell asleep under a full moon and woke up to their rooster crowing. It was a really peaceful and comfy pit stop along our journey.

My partner, friends, and I camped here for a birthday trip and it was beautiful! The hosts were so beyond nice and friendly, and we loved meeting their dog Bo too :) Getting to wake up to the stream and sit beside the fire made my whole weekend. Absolutely recommended!

My husband and I loved our stay at Bri's homestead. The property was beautiful and it was so peaceful. We loved wandering up the waterfall and playing with her dog, Beau. The property was definitely off main roads so prepare for a drive, but the drive itself is also wonderful. We hopped on the AT for a while and also hiked Laurel Creek which was super peaceful and extremely close by. Overall, it's a great spot.

Memorable Camping Experience

This beautiful homestead sits roughly 45 minutes off the beaten path from Asheville and is the most perfect couple’s camping retreat! We were immediately greeted and felt very welcomed welcomed by Bri, Allison, and their playful dog Beau. The campsite location is cozy, surrounded by wildflowers and gardens, and sits just above a small creek from which the sounds will sooth you to sleep at night. The whole property is incredibly beautiful and there is plenty to explore including several abandoned tobacco barns and a secluded waterfall at which you could easily spend the whole day. The homestead provides the perfect backdrop and the view of the stars at night is incredible! The outdoor shower and composting toilet are simple to use and work great. There’s even a spring water sink which makes washing cooking-ware a breeze. All in all we had an amazing weekend and feel so lucky to have had this stay! Bri & Allison have have a very special place and it is so incredible for them to share it with other people!

Ms. Alison's property is secluded but the campsite was located within close proximity to the owner's personal residence and chicken coop. We had a very nice stay and took advantage of the amazing swimming hole behind the barn. The owner's dog Beau is very friendly! Ms. Alison is a conscientous host and it was a pleasure meeting her.

I loved staying on Alison and Bea's land! They have this beautiful little valley all their own tucked up in the mountains. It was peaceful and lovely. Alison and Bea were awesome hosts, making me feel welcome and answering any questions I had. I can't wait to go back!!! I am already thinking about bringing my kids the next time, and the next!!!

Be prepared for some windy roads up and around the mountains. Once you pull in, it is so worth it! My husband and I were on our roadtrip honeymoon and this was our favorite spot! The fields, the river, the atmosphere was everything we could have wanted. We set up our tent right by the river and with the running water and cooler evenings we got the best sleep ever! We didn't have cell service, but Alison was great with directions to get us started until we found reception. Everything is about a 30 minute drive, but it was not bad at all! Alison was a great host with communication and set us up with some firewood. Bring some bug spray and watch for ticks. We would absolutely love to come back and stay again!
