Private and Quiet, Beautiful View
What a lovely little campground! We arrived and were able to set up just before a huge thunderstorm hit. The area is simple and somewhat primitive: just a large tent platform, a campfire with logs and benches for sitting and a shower platform. Everything is on high ground surrounded by trees and not a soul in sight! There is a spectacular view to Lake George and the Adirondacks.
We drove right past the parking space/trail entrance so slow down and follow the directions once you hit the dirt road. Wear gloves and hiking boots to the campsite-- the last part of the trail is a VERY tall incline with rocks and roots on the trail and you must use the rope to get to the top. Use a backpack and bring only what you need because you don't want to make that trip too many times. And remember, you have to bring it all back down when you leave. The campsite is completely private but if you forgot something, it is a quick drive to the Hauge General Store which carries a little produce, protein (hot dogs and hamburger meat) and necessities. Under the platform we found heavy duty tarps and a shower tent. The site also had a camping toilet ,which we did not utilize opting instead for the more natural suggestions made by the host (lol) and even the Hauge beach public toilet. There is some noise from the Lake (boats, cars) but for the most part, you only hear nature's soundtrack. Would definitely recommend the site, only wish we could have stayed longer, three days went by in a flash.
