Located at the historic Massawepie Scout Camps in Piercefield, NY, Mountaineer can serve as your vacation spot, home away from home, or gateway to Adirondack exploration. Camp Mountaineer is located at Massawepie Scout Camps, 65 Massawepie Road in Piercefield, NY - just west of Tupper Lake. The campground features a variety of camping options to suit your group’s needs—cabins, RV sites, tent sites, and group campsites are all available. Various amenities are provided to make your stay even more enjoyable. Situated in the North Central Adirondacks, Camp Mountaineer provides an opportunity for great on-site outdoor recreation as well as a jumping off point to adventures throughout the Adirondack Park. The facilities and services available at Camp Mountaineer make this a great choice for your family or groups’ adventure. Camp Mountaineer is owned and operated by the Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America headquartered in Rochester, NY. First opened as a Scout camp in 1953, Mountaineer now serves as a campground equipped to suit your group’s needs. Any group can make a reservation. Our 2025 Rental Season runs July 3-August 9

Skylight Lodge is a refurbished, rustic, Scout camp trading post that can sleep up to twelve overnight with bunk beds in two bunk-rooms (linens not provided). Skylight campers will have a full-size fridge, a hand-washing station, a microwave, stove, oven, and coffeepot available in the cabin. A large table with benches and a seating area are in the main room. The dish washing room and Bathroom/Shower-house are located just across the road. A fire pit, deck, and several picnic tables allow for plenty of space to enjoy. Overflow parking is located a short walk away at the office.

Such a great find! This campsite was really awesome and you get so much for the price. We stayed in an RV site and had plenty of tree buffer between us and the next site. The bathrooms were nearby and this direct access to miles of beautiful hiking trail right at the site. We also had a lot of fun at their beach and rec center. We are definitely interested in coming back.

Dix cabin is great! I would definitely go back again. It’s very secluded (about a mile off-road), far away from other sites- so very private, and had everything necessary for one or two people. It’s a nice bonus that you have access to all the campground facilities (including boats for the lake). The camp caretaker was also very friendly and helpful.

RV 4 Basin
Massawepie holds a special place in our scouting family. Kids attended and worked there, adults attended as leaders. The hip camp portion is on the old scout camp known as Camp Mountaineer. The Rv sites are basic with 30amp power and water. The waterfront is basic but functional. There are shower houses and a recreation building with games and hang out area. They have only been renting “Family Camp/Camp Mountianeer” for a few years. Every year we return for a few nights to drop off or pickup a scout at a camp Pioneer down the lake. Every year the facilities and offerings are better. The only issue we have is the dump station is poorly designed and difficult to dump at because of its location at the top of a small rise in the parking lot. It is impossible to have the trailer level at the dump station. The sewer inlet is also recessed in a box that makes it so you have to continuously lift the sewer hose to get the black and gray tanks flow over the edge of the box.

It's a beautiful secluded lake down a half a mile road. Just bring your own bedding and enjoy the nature with no wifi. The owner is helpful and the area is not far from Tupper lake.

The facility is excellent--wild, peaceful and lots to do. Campground host , mr. matt, is a great person and will help you in any way. Showers and cabins are good, some better than others since they are still upgrading as much as possible on what funds are available. Lake is sandy and warm. thank you

We tent camp at Colden campsite. The booking was easy and the communication was excellent. The site was a nice open field in the woods within a short walk to showers and latrines. There was a stone fire ring and picnic table on the site.

The RV spots were far apart with lots of trees. There was a nice walking trail right behind the campsite. It was lovely and peaceful. Matt was very nice and helpful. It was a pleasure to camp at an old oy Scout site!

It was nice having running water (+ shower) for me who hadn't camped in over 25 years! Trails clearly marked to get to rec hall and beach. The check in process was easy enough. Glad I had my Jeep to get up the hills to the cabin!

This is a great campground on a beautiful lake in walking distance of rare, huge bog. There is lots of scout activity across the lake so don’t be surprised by yelling and cheering, especially in the evenings. There are also day campers who use the area. The hot showers are a nice touch.

Ester Cabin was great. Very close (about 50 feet) to the bathrooms, shower house, but not so close that it disturbed any privacy. Close to the game hall, waterfront, and washroom for dishes. Would stay again. Very quiet campground.

We loved camping at Whiteface Lodge until the day we left and the our neighbors next to us, swore at us and used the f*** word multlple times. Pretty sad you can’t even have a nice weekend getaways with your friends and laugh, without people trying to ruin it. Were we loud yes, but at 10pm we were quiet and respectful. We enjoyed ourselves the last few years, but now it is becoming to busy.

Lots of room in this site and there was a ton of gravel that kept the site from turning into a swamp when it rains. There was a power failure from the 30 amp electric hook-up. The camp hosts were very responsive and contacted the park ranger and he quickly fixed the problem and the power was back on. One of the nice features of the RV sites each site has a trail that leads into the white trail. The family camp office also had a full inside shower and flush toilet.

The campground was great! Deep, really deep into the plush forest. The There is a nice sandy beach with crystal clear water on the beautiful natural Massawepie lake. It’s secluded and not over run with campers. We felt like we were the only ones there for first two nights then a family with children came in. The camping spaces are far apart for the most part except the RV’s are fairly close to one another but I think they only have 8 lots for RV’s, 4 or 6 cabins or lodges and so many tent sites. There were by no means too many campers. It was rare if we saw any our whole vacation! So if you’re looking for camper camaraderie, this is not the place for you. Oh my goodness… hiking trails leading in every direction! It is so serene!! The campground has rowboats and canoes you can use. The beach area has a nice boat dock and out in the water it has a floating dock to dive off. No lifeguards to watch your kids so their guardians will need to watch them. Oh goodness… I almost forgot! It has a large rec hall with this beautiful huge rock formed fireplace and shelves of games for young and older!! There are pool table, air hockey, foosball, ping pong tables/games to play. Dining tables plus couches around the fireplace to unwind and socialize. Even has a soda/beverage vending machine in the rec hall. The cabins are so spacious and ours was as if it had been renovated a year or two ago. Beautiful knotty pine walls and pine framing. Furnished too! We loved it!

The road getting in there was really sketchy. I guess it had been flooded out but I was not informed of that before arrival as I prob would've declined the stay. I have brand new tires on my class C and hopefully did not damage them with all of the large boulders in the road. I felt like work could have been done to the road to make it safer for travel trailers and motorhomes But I was told by the host oh well it's better than it was last week. I actually spent an hour yesterday clearing large boulders to get myself safely out of there today. I really can't rate my stay as we were pretty much trapped inside of the camper due to rain ,heat humidity and mosquitoes. These issues are beyond the Control of the campground but I just didn't get a nice welcoming feel there either .. It would suit others who are possibly used to these kind of conditions, but even with deep woods off on, every time I stepped out of the camper I was just covered in mosquitoes. I was very panicked after the rain to make it up that road out of there this morning but thankfully made it out..

Gray campsite looked wonderful for a tent site, but it wasn't what I had booked online. The app is a bit difficult to navigate on the first booking, but the caretakers were wonderful in accommodating us! We had a small camper with us, which I had entered into the app, but definitely wouldn't have fit into Grey. We ended up in Cascade and Porter, which was amazing. There was plenty of space, a great fire pit, and there are plenty of places nearby to explore. The lake is great, as always, and the trail around it beautiful :)

I loved camping at Whiteface Cabin on Massawepie Lake.. Mountaineer Family Camp host was extremely helpful, directions to the camp were clear. The cabin was clean and had all the necessary amenities. The views were stunning and night fishing had the best Bass! Great for people and families that want to totally “disconnect”.

Campsite Redfield
The tent site was nice and cozy while the campground offered a beautiful lake view and fun rec center. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly which made the experience so much better as it was our first time tent camping. I recommend coming here if you’re looking for a relaxing and scenic campsite to spend your weekend.

This place was super cute. Lake was beautiful and warm for swimming. Nice small beach close to tent site felt pretty private only one neighbour. Good shelters for when it’s raining.

The lake is so beautiful, the Rec Hall was fun and nostalgic and helpful in the rain, and bathrooms ate close by. A relaxing and Rustic place to stay, especially for Scout families.
