The accommodations were quite comfortable and clean. The view was beautiful. And the homemade gourmet meal was topping on the cake. Well worth every penny! Thank you, Chef-Üdø!!

Chef Udo was very communicative from the very beginning and one of the most hospitable Hipcamp I’ve ever had. I would definitely recommend anyone who’s looking for a cozy stay with an incredible view. Also, he’s an amazing chef and worth every penny as we rolled into camp after sunset and had a meal brought to us with happy tummies and a restful evening in a nice size tent for my family. Thank you Chef!

Chef Udo’s property was a wonderful experience. The setting is peaceful and welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious. Every meal is prepared with care and incredible flavor—you can really feel the passion behind it. We had the brisket nachos, brine chicken, chocolate cake, and cookies. A truly memorable stay and a must-visit for anyone who loves great food and warm hospitality. Chef Udo was genuinely happy to make sure everyone has a good time. He let us play with his glow in the dark bocce ball set, while waiting for dinner.

My stay at the smokehouse was genuinely a once in a lifetime experience. Chef-Üdø was SO accommodating, communicative and welcoming; the property felt well cared for and safe. And his food was absolutely unreal…where else can you have a world class steak dinner (followed by a warm cookie) underneath the stars?! I will remember this night for a long time!!

Camping on Chef's property was a unique experience. As you might expect, he is a great cook, and it is rare to have a hot meal served to you when camping. It can be a bit of a challenge to coordinate the timing if you don't know when you might be getting into camp, but things worked out OK. He is a knowledgeable host with a clear passion for the outdoors.
There are no regular camp sites in white sands NP, so this is about as close as you can get and there are other recreational possibilities in the nearby mountains. Chef has great plans for improvements to his site, such as a shower building, and he has a glamping tent available, but for now I had to make do with a shared table in contrast to other hosts that tend to offer individual picnic tables. There is a bathroom tent, but fires were not permitted when I was there. Much of the camping area is bare dirt.
When I was there in winter the weather was mild with some wind, but I am told it can be more windy at times.
Noise is a concern, there is noise from the road although it will die down late at night, noise from trains, and noise from roosters owned by nearby neighbors. On the positive note, I was able to observe a rare missile test at night with an interesting exhaust tail. Bringing ear plugs may help.

Beautiful place, lovely generous host.
Üdø’s flavors pack a punch! He’s also very knowledgeable about the area. Miraculous experience to get a fresh warm cookie delivered to my tent haha. Felt safe as a solo camper. Roads are nice and calm too.

Chef Üdø’s site was a perfect spot for us as we stopped near White Sands NP during a longer camping roadtrip throughout the Southwest! The bell tent was super clean and fresh on a raised platform to keep away the mud and bugs. We enjoyed beautiful views of the Sandia Mountains / Dog Canyon while we ate a most scrumptious meal and woke up to a vibrant sunrise. I highly recommend Chef Udo’s food!! We had the world famous brined chicken, which came with a sweet potato mash and roasted asparagus - expertly seasoned and truly delicious. Udo was super communicative and helpful, reaching out well in advance to coordinate and he provided really useful tips about the area. Don’t skip the cookies! 🍪😋

We highly recommend Chef Udo’s property for anyone visiting the White Sands area! He provided helpful communication throughout our stay, a beautiful setting, and a delicious meal of brisket nachos, smoked and seared wagyu beef burger, and vegan ice cream. He flawlessly accommodated my wife’s numerous dietary restrictions without missing a step!

This was my first time camping and Udo was a great host. Very friendly and knowledgeable on the local environment. Was great at communicating and making us feel welcome. We got a pizza and a meatball sub which were delicious and highly recommend getting some food while staying here. Was a great location with a beautiful sunrise.

Chef Udo is truly one of the best chefs I’ve ever met! Please order some cookies if you like desert. He knows exactly how to make incredible cookie. The fillings and toffee flavor are absolutely amazing. He’s also one of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve ever met!
The campsite itself offers beautiful sunset views (if in a good weather), and if you enjoy nighttime adventures, this is a great place to explore. You might spot some interesting insects. We came across a tarantula. He behaved very well and super friendly! Not friendly enough for you to pet him like a dog but at least he didn’t mind me pausing in front of his hole for a few minutes to see if hes in there. Definitely a unique experience!
And the burgers. TRY THE BURGERS TOO.

Chef Udo was super friendly, gave clear instructions, and makes a mean Hatch green chili enchiladas. Seeing the sunrise over the mountains in the morning was something real special. Would recommend to anyone passing through.

The mountain and sunset views are exquisite. Very close to White Sands which was our destination. The bathroom was very well designed, comfortable and clean. Udo is an amazing chef, he makes gourmet meals with unique ingredients, full of flavor. I recommend the meals with the camping experience. He really cares about the full experience and his guests!

If you are traveling in this area, you simply MUST stay with Chef Udo!! This may have been the most welcoming and hospitable hipcamp I have ever stayed at!! We ordered steak and baked potatoes which were quite literally the best we had ever tasted, with lots of options and HOME-MADE cheese! The ground was soft and easy to sleep on, and the location was easy to find, along with a really easily reachable camp host makes visiting this spot a no-brainer!

My family and I had a great time camping on Chęf-Üdø’s property. He was very accommodating and personable. The mountain views were an added bonus. You MUST add his cooking options to your trip—it’s absolutely incredible food that we won’t forget. We really appreciate him and highly recommend this Hipcamp!

If you're going within 100 miles of this place, you should detour. OMG. Chef Üdø’s FOOD. He was incredibly nice and helpful and friendly in a way that didn't crowd, the land was quiet with a beautiful night sky, he had potable water that was easy to access, and his composting toilet was the cleanest and least stinky I've experienced in 6 months of lots of different composting toilets, but all of that paled compared to THE FOOD. I had his vegetarian tacos, chocolate cake, and snickerdoodles, and all three were divine. I've never had tacos with the ingredients he used and I'll think about them forever. The chocolate cake had me stopping just short of licking the tin foil. And my partner and I agreed that we should probably not tell either of our moms about the snickerdoodles, as they both have recipes they're proud of for them. Can't recommend a stay here highly enough!

Chef Udo is a plethora of knowledge with cooking skills to match. He and his family went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and safe.
Working while traveling also has an added element so rest assured, Verizon gave me enough bars to download work files without too much delay no matter where on the property you end up setting up.
I booked at the last minute which meant no brine chicken but after a chat he came up with several options that would be feasible and it did disappoint! A home cooked meal while driving cross country topped any expectations.
After a long day of travel this place, the view, the people and the food have made it one of my all time favorite hip camps.
As a single woman traveling I would absolutely recommend for anyone, especially the brave women solo travelers.
Do yourself a favor and order some food too.

Chef-Üdø made us a great gumbo dinner (which can be ordered as an extra once you hit ‘reserve’ on the app) and set us up with a fun evening camp. He had a good recommendation for a local hike which we enjoyed taking the next morning.

I like to think I’m easy going minimalist - this was definitely the spot for me! I did the Bataan death march and tent camped - the weather was so nice 3 nights I did air mattress in back of pickup.
Chef-Udo was very friendly. He gave me the lay of the land and cooked some amazing meals. He even made suggestions for me when I had time. Actually suggested fishing in Lincoln National forest and I caught some and he fried them up for me. What a blast.

Very accommodating and helpful guy. There was a record dust storm on our way and so the road was blocked and we could not end up staying there, but chef Udo was very understanding and helpful letting us know what the dangers were. Can’t imagine anyone being more helpful in the lousy conditions we found ourselves. Are they recommend the person.
