Welcome to Plateau Hame De Colquhoun — or as we call it, Ka-Hoon Tucked away on the edge of the Mesa with sweeping views of the Rio Grande Valley and distant mountain ranges, Ka-Hoon is a unique off-grid destination in the New Mexico desert. Whether you’re seeking solitude or community, a short escape or a longer stay, this is a space where you can just be. **Please read before booking:** The road here is unpaved and a bit bumpy—washboarded with dips—but passable by most vehicles, including low-clearance ones, if you go slow and take your time. We strongly encourage reading our reviews and full description to make sure this adventure fits your comfort level. **What we’re about:** Ka-Hoon is a judgment-free zone built on one simple rule: **respect**. Respect yourself, others, the land, and local laws. That’s it. Our family began this journey in 2020 with the goal of living simply, sustainably, and authentically. We now share this land with others who value connection, nature, and freedom. Great campsite with amazing view and atmosphere! I spent a wonderful evening here. Highly recommend. Melodie and Brent are very friendly, make sure to follow their directions and not google map.

We didn't get to stay long as we were in between long distance destinations but Melodie & Brent's place was awesome. And they were super patient with us with directions. Yes, as other's have said follow them to a T! We did find the distance on Twinning Rd (not marked that we could see but is literally two roads side by side) to be 2.8 rather than 2.6 miles and the Blue Moon container is so faded you can't see what it is until you are right up on it but other than that their directions worked perfectly. I'm neurospicy so specifics trip me up sometimes but they were patient with us and walked us through. The sunset was one of the best I've seen in a very long time and the sunrise was cotton candy gorgeous.

Taking in the view from our campsite, was breathtaking. Melodie and Brent were beyond helpful and equally amazing hosts. Their land is gorgeous, natural and clean. Sunsets, sunrises and everything in between. Our van died on the way back to our campsite. Melodie and Brent saved us. We drove from Oklahoma to NM. She brought her friend along who is a mechanic and he fixed our van. Absolutely above and beyond. I look forward to staying with Melodie and Brent in the future. Plus, your compost toilet was a very unexpected luxury.

Detailed directions to their place (don't trust Google maps, trust the directions they give), friendly greeting and tour of the space- they have a composting toilet, music studio, and are working on a shower space. Flat camping spots for tent camping- very minimal light made the stars stand out which was awesome to see, even with the fuller moon the milky way was visible.

I loved the scenic area all around out on the plateau, the hosts were really nice. Worth the drive just make sure have a vehicle with at least ok clearance and you should be fine.

Great site though the road to get there is no joke. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time and follow the host’s directions. Beautiful views and Melodie was very welcoming!

Great spot. I recommend takeing the ride around the mesa. Stars were great and had bonfire with hosts. They have lots of good stories to tell.

Melodie, Ann, and Brent were gracious hosts. They invited me to hang out with them and watch Brent and Ann perform some cover songs for their online show. The campsite had beautiful views, and I felt safe camping alone. Thank you for your hospitality!

Friendly, accommodating, organized. She provided a sweet welcome packet to orient us to the site, was responsive to texts, and the site seems well-kept. Incredible night skies here with almost no trace of light pollution. Would definitely stay again.

A beautiful place to stay on open land stretching for as far as you can see! As others have mentioned, it is ~10 miles of bumpy bumpy roads, so I'm glad we're staying for more than one night. Mel + Brent are welcoming and friendly. Wouldn't be surprised if we come by again in the future! Queer + POC safe.

Beautiful spot, nice area to explore and walk around. Hosts were very gracious and welcoming. I would recommend a vehicle with decent clearance for getting there but we didn't require 4WD

We booked a last minute trip to see the balloon festival in Albuquerque and it turned out great! The views were incredible and Melinda and Brent were so hospitable. It’s about an hour drive from the festival, but we would absolutely stay here again next year. Highly recommend.

The view at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun is amazing. It is a really unique spot. Brent and Melodie were incredibly helpful and accommodating. As others have noted make sure you have plenty of time to reach the grounds before sunset.

First, Melodie and Brent live on this land. They are awesome hosts, giving you a quick rundown of the property then letting you go do your thing. Felt like we were alone the entire time. Views are awesome. Stars at night were spactacular. Everything we wanted! FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY AND TAKE YOUR TIME GETTING THERE.

Plateau Hame De Colquhoun
Melodie and Brent are the most friendly and accommodating hosts. Be sure to follow their detailed directions, and allow plenty of time to get there before sunset. It took us almost an hour after taking exit 191 off I-25 to reach the camp. We have a towed car with very low clearence so we were going really slow. But once we get there the place is breathtaking, unobstructed views for miles in all directions. The only distractions we had during our weeklong stay were a few free-roaming cows walking by. Time slows down here. Perfect place for watching sunrise and sunset, stargazing, and pondering the meaning of life :) The Mesa is untamed land so you do want to bring the essentials you need. You will have the best experience here if you are self-sufficient. We got to talk to the host family about their plans to develop the land, and to preserve its beauty at the same time. They have great ideas and they are hardworking folks, but most of all, their hospitality truly heartwarming. We wish them best of luck, and hope to visit again in the future. P.s. the Verizon cellphone signal was surprisingly good in this area.
