Camp Rio, formerly named Camp @ Cloudcroft is located in beautiful SE New Mexico! This clean family park is surrounded by thousands of acres of the Lincoln National Forest. The forest is laced with small villages, picturesque roads, riding, hiking, golf, and walking trails. Small valleys, surrounding mountains, racing streams, wildlife, birds, mountain glens and outdoor activities are available to Camp Rio guests. The small towns around us are Mayhill, Cloudcroft, Weed, and Pinion. These towns have scheduled activities such as arts and craft fairs, car shows, bluegrass festivals, dog shows, and Lumberjack days. Additional day trips to Alamogordo, Capitan (Smokey the Bear), Carlsbad, Las Cruces, Lincoln (Billy the Kid), Ruidoso (skiing), Sunspot (National Solar Observatory, Truth or Consequences (Hot Springs) and White Sands National Monument! Guests enjoy our upgraded free wifi to have the best of both worlds, surrounded by beautiful nature, while still being able to connect with family/friends/work. Our location is superb to use as a base camp for numerous attractions as a centralized location to have many adventures.

Nestled in an RV site near the river this 1964 vintage Shasta camper sleeps 2 in a full size bed. Unit comes with bedding, lots of cozy pillows and towels for the bathhouse. There is a sink, cooktop, small inside fridge and dishes and utensils for cooking or step outside to dine at your private picnic table after visiting our on-site food trailer just steps away from the Daisy. Seating area outside with turf grass mat and 2 chairs and side table. Come step back in time and glamp with us in an updated yet still very original vintage SHASTA camper! Pets are welcome with a non-refundable pet cleaning fee of $50/pet.

3 Bedroom Glamping Unit sleeps a total of 9! 2 Queen beds, two twins, and a futon await you to help with a nice, peaceful sleep after a day of enjoying the mountains and national forest. A large open deck awaits for relaxing, line dancing, whatever makes you happy. Also included in this listing is private parking for three vehicles, a fire pit,a spool table, a kitchenette, a jug with water, and cooking supplies. These Skoolis are a work in progress; more pictures will be added after we add more features and paint them to match the purple and blue theme in our glamping area. (2 Blue buses - Jake and Elwood Blues and the purple one will be Prince). Camp Skooli is Glamping at it's finest. Tucked away up the mountain from the RV and other tent sites, 3 shorter school buses allow you to have a spacious camping area, dedicated parking, outdoor fire pit, kitchen, and seating. Inside one bus is a Queen bed and seating area, another bus has 2 twins and fold out full bed. The 3rd bus has a queen bed and small couch to help make this an easy place to stay in while you are out adventuring without the difficulty of setting up your own tent, taking it down and traveling with limited space. Definitely a unique experience. The cleaning fee is $60. This site can be booked for smaller groups with a reduced price for un-used skooli's. Please call the office for details.

We closed in our open Music Hall to make a cabin! This new 2025 cabin sleeps 6 in 3 Queen beds with small efficiency kitchenette. We had such a wonderful stay at Camp Rio! The river is gorgeous. The bath house was spotless and warm, and the hot shower felt heavenly after a day outdoors. The camp hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the pavilion facilities were great. We’re already looking forward to coming back—next time to rent a cabin! Thank you for such a great stay.

Camp Rio was awesome! The staff were so welcoming and were happy to share great information about the area to make our stay great. It was wonderful to wake up each morning to the wildlife, and the peaceful river right in front of us. The bathrooms there were fantastic! Overall, it was a great experience, and we are so thankful we found this place for a get away into nature for the New Year!

Star Gazing RV 50 amp Full Hookup
This was my 2nd time at Camp Rio. 1st time, it was still CCC and we rented one of the upper level tent sites. This time, we booked the stargazer site for my parents RV, and to be on the safe side, we also booked a tent site along the river for my family and our Great Dane puppy. Unbeknownst to us, there was a very large wedding planned, and my parents were relocated to a different RV site, near the entrance, to make room for the band and entertainment. Campsite 2 turned out to immediately abut the decorative arch where the wedding ceremony was to take place! We couldn't stay, lest we ruin all of the photos with our huge tent overpowering the happy couple. As it turned out, the new Camp Manager Scott had been left in charge with no warning, while the owners took off on vacation. Thankfully Scott and a very kind team of two elders helped us relocate swiftly to another much more comfortable and out of the way space, much closer to the RV as we had intended, for all of the children and pups to play together. He even provided us with a ring and more than a night's worth of wood for the kids to make s'mores. They had a blast and we so appreciate the care taken to avoid what would have been a very awkward situation. Also recommend that Sites 1-4 be spaced much further apart. I can only imagine what would have happened if the other two sites had been occupied with hardly room for a tent, much less a camp, or a wedding.

I saw on the listing you needed to check in at the office but didn’t see a time to arrive by. I arrived at 6pm to find the office closed after driving all day from Texas. I lost reception about an hour away from the site and had no service to be able to call or message the host to check in once I got there. I ended up walking through the site but then decided to camp at one of the National Forest sites that was just up the road.

This is a mixed site campground with some small and some spacious accommodations. Owners are very hands on and approachable. Our pack of six dogs in our 36' Class A were welcomed to join us! We already have another trip up booked for October in another site with more room. Site 11 is small but has a wonderful shade tree on the camp side.

What a beautiful campground!! The camp hosts are amazing and very responsive! They went out of their way to let us spend one night on an rv pad because our tent site had flooded a little! The tent sites are separate from the rv sites and the creek runs right through them. There is a convenience store walking distance and about 17 minutes to cloudcroft. Lots of great hikes available too! We suggest bridal veil falls!

RV 11- Camp Rio RV Sites
In all my years of camping and booking campsites, this was honestly a miserable time. The camp had allowed a huge party of 30+ people at their Music Hall, music blaring and yelling until 2:45 AM, twenty feet from our site. The camp has quiet hours starting at 10, but the staff didn’t enforce it. No toilet paper or soap in the bathrooms. The WiFi didn’t work. I would never stay here again. Clearly run by people who do not care about their guests.

The photos led me to expect a different setting, it turned out to be a more traditional RV park. It felt safe, and although the high winds made it quite dusty, that's certainly not the park's fault. The park is actually located in Mayhill, NM, not Cloudcroft. Check-in was very straightforward, and I found all the employees to be incredibly helpful and kind. The bathrooms were also clean and well stocked. Very nice reprieve from the heat of Alamogordo

The Gypsy Wagon was a fun set up. It was a nice secluded nook from the rest of the campsite with plenty of space to spread and enjoy. Just beware that the wagon itself is not that spacious. It mostly just fits two for sleeping. The bathrooms were very pleasant, discuss, and clean. I would definitely come back here.

Very well maintained site next to a small river. We were visites by ducks, deer and turkeys! Flat area with hookups for trailers, several flat areas near the river for tents, and super cute trailers for glamping. Bath house with heated showers and flush toilets. They even set up our fire ring

The best aspect of this campground were the extremely friendly--and helpful--staff, especially Rebecca. We also enjoyed use of the kitchen and table in the Pavillion... and the staff was really great in terms of turning on the water and propane for us to be able to cook in there, out of the wind. HOWEVER! I would NOT recommend this campground for people in a tent, as we were. The noise from the nearby highway was annoying and made it hard to sleep well, even with earplugs in; there are too few actual tent sites; the bathrooms (which RV people would probably not need to use) were pretty primitive and small (and only two-- most inconvenient); the nearby "river" was just a creek; there was NO "hiking trail" in the campground or starting in the campground, as was advertised. In short, we felt mislead and were greatly disappointed. It was WAY too expensive for tenting, at $50 per night. Half that amount would have been way more reasonable!

RV 11- Camp Rio RV Sites
The creek was pretty but the fish didn’t bite. The bathrooms were clean. However, the location has no hiking trails, everything is fenced off. We had to get in our motorhome and drive quite awhile to find a place to hike. The rules said absolutely no feeding the wildlife and no fires or grills at any time, then we noticed a herd of deer in our area as well as wild turkeys, which was great until we saw that the reason was because the people working there were feeding them corn, which is not good for them. The last day 2 other RVs showed up right next to us even though the entire place had only one other RV so we were packed together and rest of the place was empty, which was odd because we could have been more spaced out. The neighbors also had a roaring fire and a grill, which we thought were not allowed. We found out they were friends with some of the workers. There were also several street lights and other lights on at night so it wasn’t dark enough to stargaze. It said there was a food truck open but it never did. The water machine said it was opening in March 2025 , but was still off, even though we were there the end of March. We did get phone service and the wifi worked. It was not my cup of tea.
