My partner and I are summer/spring campers who have been pushing into cooler-weather trips, and the third weekend of October at Hussey Mountain Tree Farm was a great test! I chose it for the reviews praising the property, the amenities, and Eben (the owner).
The site: Ledgewood was very private, with beautiful views of the mountains and forest. The amenities were well considered, site super clean, and the grill grate was spotless, which stood out since many campgrounds don’t keep theirs up.
The trails: You could spend multiple days enjoying the property’s trails, there are mindful moments built into much of the forest. The terrain is fun to hike, ranging from flat to steep, with some opportunities for scrambling. There are benches, hammocks, and clearings along the way that invite you to stop, read, talk, or simply be present. The peak foliage made the forest and the views of the mountains and pond unforgettable!
The woods were so magical at dusk, so bring a headlamp to stay out and enjoy it! The forest basketball court was a very fun bonus.
For us it had the perfect balance of comfort and camping. The site had a covering for our tent, a scenic bench, potable water provided, campfire chairs, tables, well-placed hammocks, and cooking gear to make camping easy and comfortable, yet the property keeps the focus on your natural surroundings.
The forest feels honored, and Eben’s thoughtful touches bring you closer to it. The paid transport to your site is worth it for the convenience and for time to talk with Eben, who is kind, thoughtful, and insightful. Being able to support his vision is part of what makes this place even more special.
We wish we had stayed longer and plan to return in spring and fall!
