Camp Topisaw

My brother, nephew and I had a mini reunion with my water-loving pup Lucy. We spent hours in the river and it was the perfect way to appreciate the beauty of the place despite the torrid days. Site five was a nice hike in and very private. The hardwood logs from David made some of the most superb fire and great embers for roasting potatoes. David very kindly checked in the morning after an unexpected rainstorm one night. As a host, he was very considerate, amiable and respectful. I've been to Topisaw once before, and definitely will visit again! Oh, and listen for the owls!

Best private campground in MS!

I think I already left a review but let’s do it again for last night! My wife and I went to David’s property and stayed at the creekside campsite to watch the meteor shower and it was great! Clear skies, virtually no light pollution, quiet, safe and just a good time. We have plans to come back as a couple, with friends, solo, etc. It’s by far the best private campground I’ve been to in Mississippi. Extremely close to home too, which makes it convenient. The sandbar creekside campsite was awesome. Beautiful, shallow’ish creek to wade into to cool down. Doggo loved it too. Such a nice spot. Easy to get to, has cell service, and generally just a really good environment. Host is super easy to work with too and has been very accommodating. Would definitely recommend this campground to anyone looking for a peaceful and quiet escape.

Best close-to-home campsite by far!

This place is great! Only an hour and a half from home. Super convenient location and definitely has become one of my favorite escape-to locations. It’s far enough away from home to feel secluded but close enough to home that it doesn’t take forever to get here. Camp site number 3 is phenomenal. It’s like a little tree cove that secludes your vehicle/tent and gives excellent privacy. The creek from this campsite is just a few steps away, maybe 100 feet at most, down a small hill, and that felt very private also. My dog loved playing in the water. The host is also great! He’s been very accommodating. He helped me out the first night with an issue I was having with some other - loud and bothersome - campers nearby. All I had to do was send a text and the issue was resolved within a few minutes. The host has also offered to let me tour his property to find the perfect spot, as my wife and I will be coming back for a meteor shower soon. It’s gonna be great! Thanks so much to David and Edie for providing such a great place to escape life and unwind in a peaceful and quiet location. Regarding the firewood, the bundle is extremely adequate for the price. $25 may seem steep at first, but once you see the pile, you’ll appreciate the price point - you wouldn’t be able to get this much from a store for the same price, and it was properly cut and dried (not wet round logs). Easy to light and have a sustained fire for hours. Can’t wait to come back!

I loved site 3. It was a nice cozy spot all to ourselves. Plus it was maybe 20 feet away from the creek bed my dog enjoyed running along the banks. Mr. David made sure we had everything we needed

I stayed at site #3 and had a wonderful time! Big spot, plenty of room to pull my truck in and quickly unload my stuff. Great shade where my stand up hammock fit nicely. Plenty of room to tie my dogs out. Easy access to the creek, right down a path (definitely recommend water shoes for the water). Really wished I brought a treat for the sweet donkey!!

Site 4

Overall I had a lovely time, the site and surrounding area are just as beautiful as described. However, we were awoken early one morning by a massive tree harvester just across the creek from our site. Upon reaching out to the host, he responded harshly and suggested we just pack up and leave. I don’t know if he speaks to all women this way, but it definitely didn’t feel like a safe option to try and stay the last night though I absolutely would have loved to. Such a bummer.

Pasture Corner (Site 8)

We stayed at camp site 8 which had the woods behind us and an open field in front. Even though we were not tucked in the woods, the spot still offered constant shade for our tent and plenty of shade around the rest of the area. Perfect spot for our trip with 2 young kids and 2 dogs. The creek was pretty cool, kids definelty could spend all day there but id highly recommend to wear water shoes in the water and on the sand/rocks.

Camping with Rocks!!

Had an absolute blast rockhounding!! They showed us exactly where to look for the rock bank and we found some outstanding stuff. We booked this in the middle of the night and they were able to accommodate us that same day with no problem. Definitely recommend and we will be back, thanks again!!

Duck Pond Overlook (Site 6)

The hosts were so great with my needs and accommodations and offered me a different spot to allow me to pull my car up closer. Amazing location. Very quiet, even got to hear wolves or coyotes and the view of the stars was outstanding. Sweet Luna, one of the farm dogs, slept outside my tent all night and made me feel very comfortable. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful, private space. Hefty cedar wood bundle with kindling and fire starter for purchase. Have stayed at multiple sites and they all feel secluded yet close to the water. Highly recommend.

Duck Pond Overlook (Site 6)

Fiancee and I went to get away for the Holidays to avoid the Family hassles with the pup for four days. David was communicative and friendly prior to our trip, asking if we needed some extra firewood (25$ cash) and made sure we got set up okay once we got there. He checked in over text daily. The area was very nice, we went searching for trash to pick up prior to getting set up and found very little. The grill and wood were a huge help as I had a bit of trouble getting the campfire set up in the cold and rain. The ad says David has 4 dogs that might say hello, I will say they definitely said hello and stayed for quite awhile. One of them for a night and two days without leaving camp, so if your tied up or leashed dog is not ready to be around other dogs, highly recommend you look for another place, thankfully mine was okay with the two that visited frequently. Little close to the road for my liking as you can hear trucks with loud bass coming up and down through the night, but the serenity of the water from the creek flowing through made up for that. Stores are a short drive to get any last minute supplies, which is great since we had to grab some extra ice last minute.

We tent camped on the creek side sandbar. It was a group of 5 of us and a dog. David welcomed us at the site, he was friendly and answered all questions we had. The site had a bbq grill, a patio table and 4 chairs, and an outhouse that was close by. There was enough parking for our 3 vehicles so no problems there. The site wasn’t close by to other campers and felt very private which was nice. The creek was a little chilly but we were in it the majority of the days anyway, and the dog loved it. If you’re in to rock hunting this spot is for you! Bunch of neat things to find in and near the creek. I would also recommend some kind of water shoe for the rocky spots (if you have city feet like me) Overall, we had nothing negative to say about this place. Everything was great and we will be returning in the future!

I loved tent camping here! All of the beautiful sounds from rushing water to animals in nature made for a nice relaxing time! The directions were easy but the camping spot was still very secluded! Awesome spot to stargaze!
