The Cranes Nest is located in the countryside of Grass Lake on our 25 acre homestead. This serene property is a great place for bird watching during the day and stargazing at night. The tent site’s sit on approximately 8 acres within the back 20 acres of the property, surrounded by fields, woodlands, and wetland. This variety of landscapes creates a special place for all types of wildlife, from turtles and frogs to deer and fox. We offer a variety of secluded sites as well as group sites. We are located 5-10 minutes from Portage Lake and Grass Lake. Due to limited access please plan on a short walk with your gear to the campsites from the parking location. A cart is available to help haul gear as well. There will be signs to guide you on this little journey. Pets are welcome, leashes are not required at your site, but please ensure your furry friends are leashed while exploring. We will be offering fresh organic eggs, firewood bundles, bug sprays, and misc items that you may have left behind. Cora also offers a variety of services including reiki and sound baths, send us a message if you are interested. Due to our busy and fluctuating schedule, we may not be home to greet you, but please feel free to say hello if we are!

Whitetail Way (site 4) is nestled into the north corner of the campground. This secluded site is surrounded by pines, woods, and wild roses offering shade for most of the day. This site also has a fire ring and a direct path to the outhouse.

Cottonwood Grove

Cottonwood Grove (site 11) is the very southern site on the campground. This site is fairly secluded from the rest of the campground. You will be surrounded by cottonwood trees that offer shade the first half of the day. This dispersed site will leave you feeling immersed in the wilderness. Please note: This site is near the neighboring property, but the home is barely visible through the trees.

Blue Jay Lookout

Cottonwood Hollow

Cottonwood Hollow (site 10) is tucked into the Southeast corner of the campground. This large site sits at the bottom of the main camping area and is kitty corner to site 9. You will be surrounded by cottonwood trees that offer shade the second half of the day. This site has a fire ring and is ideal for larger groups that want to be somewhat secluded from the rest of the campground. Please note: This is the closest site to the neighboring property, but the home is barely visible through the trees.

Juniper Lookout (site 9) is tucked into the Southeast corner of the campground. This medium sized site sits at the bottom of the main camping area and is kitty corner to site 10. This site is ideal for guest that are staying with guests from site 10. Please note: This site is near the neighboring property, but the home is barely visible through the trees.

The Cranes Nest (Group) sits perched on top of the heart of the campground. This booking is inclusive of 4 sites. If booked under this listing, 1-2 vehicles/small campers may be allowed to drive down the access path to these sites. Please message us if you intend on staging a vehicle at your site. 4 wheel drive is recommended. With the site sitting on top of the hill there will not be a lot of shade throughout the day, but these sites provide great views of the entire campground and will be great for stargazing. There are multiple fire pits surrounding these sites.

Whitetail Way
It is a beautiful property with tons of privacy. The walk from the parking area was a little longer than we expected, but it was nice. The property was a little overgrown, we were told the was a problem with the mower. If I were to start again I would plan to spend more time at the property. We had other things we were doing the weekend we stayed and didn't get a chance to hire around and explore.

Cottonwood Hollow
Beautiful secluded sites! For all the foliage, the bugs were minimal. Site 10 was nicely shaded for the majority of the day. The outhouse was clean, private, and had no smell whatsoever for being an outhouse. We would definitely come back here!!

I loved camping on Cora and Joe's land! They have a lot of wildlife. I have seen deer and plenty of rabbits. The campground is close to the town of Jackson if you need to go get supplies. Cora and Joe are very hospitable. I would totally come here again.

Nice place with great view of the stars. Secluded and definitely feel "out in nature". A bit of a hike to the sites but they provide a wagon. Firewood delivered to the site is a nice touch. Outhouse is nice and clean.

Camping on Joe and Cora's land was really sweet! I arrived late and Cora came out to help show me the way to the campsite. It was a beautiful spot with a lovely walk through some wetlands, lots of birds and cute places to sit. I would %100 recommend this spot for other campers. Will be looking to camp here on future trips.

Cottonwood Grove
This camping location is beautiful! While there’s a total of 11 or so sites, they’re well spread out, and most of the sites have privacy. Directions from the host takes you to a parking (about 10 vehicles), then you need to follow signs for camping. The path to camp sites as well as the site numbers are well-marked. Outhouse was clean and well maintained. It was a downhill path to get to it though. Hosts are responsive and helpful. Town of Grass Lake is about 10 minutes, it has gas stations and grocery store (in case you forget something). Overall, there camp sites are beautiful, have enough privacy and are close enough to town. I definitely recommend it! Only thing is we weren’t expecting a 5 minute walk from the parking to the campsite. With so much to unload from our car, it got really tiring unloading and reloading everything. So it’s not ideal to have a lot of camping gear with you (they did provide a small cart to carry things).

I would recommend this hipcamp. I accidentally selected maybe and have reached out to hipcamp support. I can't change it until it's been posted and then I can edit it. The site was pretty private but did connect to the outhouse trail. The outhouse was pretty clean, the sites were fairly far apart. We were the only people on the property so it was perfectly quiet. The hosts were easy to communicate with and the eggs were great. Lots of birding!

This was a lovely camping area! The hammocks were already set up in our site, you could see the stars so wonderfully, there was lots of privacy, and the hosts were responsive. It was easy to cart a bit of camp gear to our spot. Only downsides were some posion ivy and that highway nearby. 🤪

Fairies Hangout
We camped for a night on Joe and Cora’s property and it was exactly what the description stated and what we expected. A quiet area, in a woodsy environment. They have a handful of different sites to stay at. Ours had two hammocks, a nice space for our tent and a fire pit. There is also a decent outhouse to go to the bathroom. Clean, private, and more comfortable than most. You park your car in a small lot and take a short walk down a trail to get to the sites. This type of camping would definitely be more for roughing it, but that’s the joy in it. Inexpensive and worth the experience.
