Site 1 - Sunshine Motel Rustic Camping
Location, Location, Location. Sunshine Motel is conveniently located just outside Ontonagon and not far from the Porkies. The owners are most helpful and ready to answer any questions. We always camp rustic sites and had plenty of room to choose from for set up. Lake Superior is a short walk from the site and was roaring wonderfully the second day as the winds had picked up. Not to mention, we are forever Squatch seekers and they had a fun photo op out front and fun warning signs at camp. We had a great stay and would come back if in the area again.

Another visit to Sunshine campsite with family was heaven on earth, once again. Rev. & Nou’s land is a magical place that they take great pride in (as they should) and even more care and attention is paid to their land, campers, and other visitors. We have a feeling this will continue to be our annual and favorite escape.

This spot is so lovely! Our hosts allowed us to book the trapper’s shack at site 3 for another $10; such a gift, as it rained all night and we didn’t have to set up our tent. The shack could fit our queen air mattress easy and kept us dry all night. The beach access is lovely. The nearby town has a few restaurants that are very well loved by the locals. A fun night in ontonogan :) Great, clean and very well kept campsites.

The campsites at Sunshine Motel are exactly as advertised and well maintained. The sites are rustic with no facilities, but are spacious with fire rings and picnic tables. It is a little walk from the parking lot and there are little lights to guide the way in the evenings. These sites are proximal to the Porcupine Mountains and Ontonagon. Our only difficulty was mosquitos, but that’s the UP for ya

This site is surrounded by beautiful Michigan forest, even though it is on the motel property is feels very private. Really liked that there was a short walk to Lake Superior.

I didn’t get to experience Sunshine Motel Rustic camping. I was unaware from the initial description that they didn’t allow vehicle camping at their sites. I messaged them as soon as I saw in their description that it was prohibited, but I didn’t see this rule until I was already hours away from home and supposed to stay there that night. I was informed about an hour later that there was no way I could stay at their site and that they wouldn’t issue a refund, as it’s not their policy. I understand that I made a mistake and it’s not their responsibility to care. However, I felt that they could have been less dismissive. I was able to find another campsite three hours away and they were able to make an exception for their two night policy. Had it not been for them, I would have been over five hours from home with no where to sleep. I recommend using caution when booking this site and reading the rules and policies thoroughly, well before leaving for your trip.

OMG AMAZING! Tony and his wife are the kindest people on planet earth. Invited us for a bonfire and food for Memorial Day weekend. Absolutely perfect place to camp before heading into the Porkies.

I had a really fantastic experience at Sunshine Motel! Their campsites are nicely secluded with tons of room and have really nice fire pits. Private access to a lake Superior Beach seals the deal, will definitely be returning!

The campsites were large and nestled in the pine trees. We were at site 1. Although it was rustic camping there was a fire pit, picnic table, and garbage can on the site. Tony came and changed the garbage each day. We loved the private beach access to Lake Superior and caught some beautiful sunsets there. This campground is definitely a hidden gem.

The three sites are a good distance apart and well maintained. The numerous tea lights that come on at dusk on the short trial and in the forest were a nice touch.

My partner and I stayed at Sunshine this past weekend for a somewhat last minute trip (compared to state park/other sites) to the Porkies for my birthday. Everything was wonderful! The hosts were so welcoming, knowledgeable, kind and thorough. Parking was close for campsites and the walk to the sites is short & easy! Private beach access was such a nice amenity, as well as the fire pit and grill at each site. Campsites are clean, well maintained and all a generous size. We stayed at Site #3, which was easily the most private and serene site. Each night provided gorgeous sunsets and starry skies. We hope to return again soon!

Sunshine Motel Rustic Camping
I had a great time camping at Sunshine Motel & Cabins! The campsites are on a hill behind the cabins, and give you enough privacy without being too far away from your car. They have private beach access to Lake Superior right across the road, and we were all treated to a full-on fireworks show on the beach for the 4th! Great location about a half hour east of the Porkies and close enough to explore the rest of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
