Spacious, level camping well-suited for travel trailers over 40 ft long.

Our beautiful, 10-acre grounds include wooded and grassy areas, 14 different gardens, bridges, boardwalks, swings and benches, walking trails, and 17 historic buildings. Visit the beautiful Loop Harrison Mansion, General Store, one-room schoolhouse, Banner Cabin, our historic church and train depot, the hearse shed that houses our antique wooden hearse, and more. Wildlife and nature abound. Our peaceful and private grounds will be your camping oasis. Within walking distance of beautiful Lake Huron with its beaches and marina and parks, plus the Port Sanilac Lighthouse (tours available on summer Fridays), and several bars and restaurants. Check out our Farmers' Market on Fridays and catch a live play at the 150-year-old Barn Theatre. Take a guided tour of the beautiful Loop-Harrison Mansion, built in 1872. Or hop on a 1917 open-air Model T or horse and carriage for a tour around town. There is always something happening at the Museum! Learn more about this land: RV campers are welcomed to our beautiful 10-acre grounds at the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum. At this time, we do not allow tent campers. Campers are invited to use our two large communal bonfire pits. Firewood is available for purchase. Advance notice is recommended. Guest WIFI is available in and near the Mansion but does not reliably connect to our camping areas. Here you will find beauty, quiet, and privacy. Be sure to wander our brick/stone path and nature trail that combine to make a one-mile walking path around the grounds. You'll enjoy bridges, swings and benches to rest awhile, a boardwalk, a fairy garden, 14 flower gardens, birds and wildlife, and lots more! The path also winds past each of our 17 historic buildings and the 1942 U.S. Army Troop Train. Tour the beautiful Loop-Harrison Mansion, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022. Enjoy a live performance at the Barn Theatre on Friday and Saturday evenings. Take a unique tour of Port Sanilac in our 1917, open-air Model T or horse and carriage. We are located within walking distance of beautiful Lake Huron, including a lakeside park, beach, harbor, and break wall. Check out the live music at the harbor park every Saturday during the summer months. The historic Port Sanilac Lighthouse (tours offered on Fridays) is also within walking distance, as well as restaurants, bars, and shopping. Private camping with 20 amp outlet in a historic museum coupled with short walk to Lake Huron made a relaxing 2 day trip. Dan was helpful pointing out site, electric and offered firewood for a small donation. Great to see a smaller MI town do so much too preserve history back to mid 1800s. Well worth 2 days.

Fantastic experience staying at a very unique site. Great spot under the stars near the campfire site. Plenty of places to explore. We toured the mansion on property and walked the path through the historic village. Later we walked the path around the property. Dan was there when we arrived and helped us to our site. We had the whole place to ourselves at night. Very clean bathroom on property if needed. Great experience and I would highly recommend.

Suited us very well. For public museum with a Halloween Venture for kids, that was an enjoyable party. Never a noisy day and peaceful nights. The visitors were pleasantly talkative with input of the Port Sanilac history. Google Maps sent us in the wrong direction but phone call to our host directed to and met us on the grounds. I hope to be back next fall.

This is a fabulous place. We were met as we pulled in and told where to park which was in front of the train depot. It was an excellent spot on the grass and was level. We enjoyed the little trail and historic buildings. It is obvious they take pride in this place. It was peaceful.

Nice grounds and close enough to town to be convenient. Walked to marina and coffee shop every day. Sanilac Coffee is great. Restaurant next door. Bathrooms were open the whole weekend so that was nice. Dog friendly space with lots of room to walk them.

The Sanilac Historic Village and Museum property is a wonderful place to camp. It's well worth the stop. Not only can you explore the historic buildings and property, a short walk down the road is the Stone Lodge where we have enjoyed many great meals. Port Sanilac is about a 10 minute walk where we discovered the Alli bar - fun place with live music.

Beautiful grounds with historic buildings. Mature shade trees. There was a play in the barn theater and a wine tasting is various locations on the grounds our first night but it was very quiet - we didn't hear or see anyone from our site. Short walk to the marina. Lovely place with a nice nature trail.

We loved Stepping back in time. We liked historic atmosphere of the museum grounds. Plenty of things to do during the day. And nice and peaceful during the evening's. Dan is a great host who goes out of his way to accommodate you. This was our second time there and we'll visit again someday.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed here, and both times were great! Dan was very helpful and there was quick communication. We enjoyed that the bathrooms were open (during winter), as well as being able to use the electricity. We really love staying here!

Unique location close by Lake Huron. Brittany was very helpful greeting us, gettiing us situated, and providing documentation on the museum and surrounding area. We had a very relaxing Labor Day weekend.

We stepped back in time on a road trip tracing the great lakes. This was a great little spot to pop our rooftop tent in the grass amongst the historic buildings. We had a picnic table and firepit and an expansive grass area to enjoy. There are some really cool old buildings and shops you can walk around as well a little nature trail. Would've been fun to catch it on a day where the general stores was open.

Stayed there for 6 days with my 22ft travel trailer. My spot was next to the Church and I had water and electric (20AMPS) hooked up. Worked there during the day, exploring after. Great location, very quiet during the week. Setup of the historic village is great, people take great care of everything. Spot levelled very well. Port Sanilac is a charming little spot and just 15min walk to get to the Marina where you find a very good restaurant and ice cream store. Beach nearby as well. There is a Dollar General store mid town and another market with gas station just few minutes walking down the main road. No dump station at the location or in town but few miles north is Sanilac County Forester Camp Ground where I was able to use their dump station for $5. Great experience overall, highly recomment this little gem

Lovely place to camp. Friendly, helpful staff. Had a level spot with 15A electric next to the old train depot. Beautiful grounds, easy walking distance to downtown. Two blocks from the lighthouse.

Nice place if you are in a camper van or self sufficient RV but not in a Pop up camper or tent. I felt like I was a part of the museum attraction. However I’d like to return sometime to actually take in a show at the theater and have a guided tour of the inside of the buildings on site.

We loved our stay M - W at this site. Yes, we missed out on the fun stuff on the weekend, but our peaceful stay was superb! We enjoyed listening to the actors prepping in The Barn Theater for Friday night's opening and the tour of the Looper-Harrison Mansion was so informative. We would stay here again. It was money well spent in support of an awesome non-profit.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this location. Made me think more of these historical villages and museums need to host campers. I pulled in, checked in via phone and set up camp for the night. Wandering the outbuildings and the Woodland path with my dog was delightful. Listened to the local Players Troupe practice for their next show and relaxed. Having a restroom was a nice break from using my vans facilities. I would love to stay here again and maybe even arrive early enough to enjoy a tour.

My husband and I absolutely loved camping at the Museum. It is a quiet peaceful beautiful place to camp. Different than any other place we ever camped. If you want to be away from all the hubbub and craziness this is the perfect spot to unwind. Thank you Dawn and everyone there, George is wonderful and Charlene is amazing!!! This place might just become our get anniversary get away every year!!
