We are closed for the season. Have a wonderful fall and winter season. Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails. We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage. I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it. This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe) We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well. Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking. Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street. We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy. Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Camping on Peaceful Lake Shawood
Terry was an exceptional host, accommodating our late arrival and thoughtfully checking in after a period of rain to ensure everything was going well. Interactions with the neighbors were minimal, though they were present during our stay. One nearby Ring spotlight camera activated frequently while we were enjoying an evening fire, which was somewhat noticeable. The area near the water can become quite wet, so I would recommend going barefoot or wearing footwear that can get wet. It’s well worth it, as the surrounding wildlife is abundant and difficult to resist exploring. This was, without question, one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had. The setting is peaceful, with the natural sounds of frogs, cranes, swans, woodpeckers, and other wildlife creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. It offers an excellent balance of seclusion and nature while still being close enough to have food delivered or pick up essential supplies. I look forward to seeing how this property continues to evolve over time and would gladly return for another stay.

Terry’s land was great and just what we needed- just big enough for car camping with a cute view, it was a great stay and I would totally recommend a night or two for anyone wanting to camp but stay close to restaurants and anything like that!

The view is beautiful. I enjoyed giant swans, geese, and a heron all on a marsh scattered with lily pads. However, the “campsite” itself is in a backyard and the neighbors are very close.

Beautiful & peaceful! Terry made it seamless when checking in with instructions, although we had a rainy night & day experience so I didn’t get to watch sunset or sunrise or have a nice bonfire last night, I enjoyed my moment away & lots of rest In his tiny house. I’ll be back soon!

Excellent location, very peaceful, beautiful birdwatching and wildlife. It’s easy to walk to the public park and swimming areas, and we got a beautiful view of the holiday fireworks! Terry had firewood ready for us and we brought some of our own to have a nice roaring fire with a perfect view of the lake. We loved it and would stay here again!

We loved camping at Terry and Shawne's property! Great spot for camping right next to the lake and there is also a tiny house (no water/electricity yet) you can rent just in case the weather doesn't cooperate. The lake is beautiful for kayaking, fishing and paddle boating and the sunsets do not disappoint. A camping toilet and barbecue grill were provided by the hosts. Also there is a beautiful park at the end of the street with a fishing pier, public bathrooms and a pavilion with plugs for charging your devices. Terry and Shawne are sweet and very responsive to any questions you may have. Can't wait to go back!

Terry was great having everything set up for us when we arrived. We loved spending time by the fire pit and waking up to the ducks was amazing. Hopefully we will be back!

Really serene little spot to spend the night or a few days. Tight swing into the drive if your vehicle is large but once you are in you are solid. Cannot compliment Lakeshore Park enough! Great hiking and scenery.

The location is beautiful - on the edge of a lake with lily pads and a few geese/ducks/swans visiting. Picnic table, fire pit. I didn’t use the fire pit. Buggy at night- very hungry mosquitoes but that is expected right next to a calm lake. I used the little cabin which has a little table, 2 wooden chairs and was carpeted. I would’ve just pitched a tent but I was there for several days of training for work and appreciated the security of being in a more solid structure in case of bad weather. Outdoor motion light was nice when I got up to use the toilet tent but it did go on a few times in the night maybe from critters wandering around. The toilet tent was a nice addition- regular flushable camp toilet in a zip up structure. Tp and hand sanitizer provided. Nice quiet neighborhood about a block or two from the park. No beach tho unfortunately. Host checked in regularly before and during my stay to give address/directions and to make sure everything was good and if I needed anything. I will definitely consider this rental again in the future if I’m back for more training in the area. — Rebecca

Great camping spot! I stayed in the unfinished tiny house and it was a great little retreat to get out of the rain at night. I enjoyed my time there very much. Terry answered my questions promptly and I would absolutely stay again.

Secluded in the suburbs of Novi. Nice lake. We put our 10x6 camper on his property. Plenty of wood walking distance new a nice park and the Lakeside Bar and grill. Terry was very helpful and offered to cut the grass and other things like staying in his little shed.

What a pleasant site! We needed a quick break from the city, and this site delivered. The hosts had everything ready when we arrived. My family enjoyed the nearby park (to which we will return!) and a campfire at water’s edge. Think less “lost in the woods,” more “cottage by the lake,” and you’ll understand the vibe.

We enjoyed the setup! Terry was kind enough to setup a bathroom tent for us and leave kindling to start a fire. She also left us an extra tarp in case the ground was wet, which was so kind! We had a great time on this property.

A nice quiet spot to tuck in for the night. We winter camped in our self-contained van and it was perfect for us. Lakeshore Park, nearby, has some great trails for the dogs! Terry was very hospitable.

Nice area. Convenient to shopping and to I-96. Surrounding area appears to be somewhat sketchy, but don't let that bother you. No one bothers you and they keep to themselves. The cabin is spartan in amenities, but if you know what you're all about, you should be well prepared to deal with it. Great place to camp.

I really enjoyed Terry's place. To me, it was amazing to have a private bit of nature in suburban Detroit. I had a lot of room for my campervan and a screen tent as well. And to have Walled Lake just feet away. I'm sure I'll return. PS, if you like pastries, take a 1.5 mile walk to Nino's Bakery first thing in the morning and get them fresh and warm.

Terry was wonderful. He was very flexible as to when we would meet. We met at around 9pm and he explained everything. He had installed a toilet for us to use. However, we were right across the street from a park so I was able to get fresh water for my coffee, and use the bathroom. Thank you Terry!
