Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan. Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them. We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs. However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

Orchard Cabin

A Magical Cabin In The Forest

Staying at The Orchard Cabin and the entire Bear Tree Homestead was truly magical—like stepping into a world straight out of Harry Potter. The cabin, nestled in front of a serene pond and framed by a charming apple orchard, was both picturesque and cozy. Despite the lack of running water, we never missed it; everything was so thoughtfully prepared that it added to the rustic charm. The warmth of the cabin made us feel instantly at home, and the genuine hospitality from Nick, Jill, and all their wonderful farm friends made our visit unforgettable. Jill.. Your cookies were amazing! Thank you so much for creating such a special experience for my family, as it was the perfect setting to spend time with our daughter! We can't wait to return for another enchanting stay in the woods!

Orchard Cabin

A Piece of Heaven

Seriously a piece of heaven on Earth! I booked the Orchard Cabin at Bear Tree Homestead for my short annual getaway, and I can't wait to return! The cabin was cozy and wonderful, the hosts were some of the most wonderful, gracious, down-to-earth people I have ever been graced to meet, and being around all the animals was a joy. I honestly can't say enough nice things about this place. Absolutely will be back! Thanks Jill and and Nick for such a wonderful, life-giving experience!

Orchard Cabin

Marji race dream rental

The orchard cabin is fantastic! We got so lucky it was available for Marji Gesick race. We loved the outdoor space, covered porch and homemade cookies!! We didn't get to spend a lot of time around the cabin but definitely plan on coming back to explore and meet more of the animals.

The Pond Cabin

What an absolutely amazing place to end or summer camping season. We are typically tent campers and this was a wonderful treat! The only downside is there is no fishing in the pond. My son is an fishing addict so it was torture for him not to be able to. Made worse when he found out it was stocked with trout! Just with that has been stated up front is all.

Orchard Cabin

Rustic and Convienient

Our stay at Bear Tree Homestead in the Orchard Cabin was a memorable time for our family and friends. We've been taking regular trips to the UP and the Marquette area for the last decade or so. After enjoying our time in many campgrounds, DNR cabins, and Airbnb's, the Orchard Cabin at Bear Tree Homestead is now the flagship for us. The proximity to Hogback was perfect for a hike with our 4-6 year-olds and somewhat-out-of-shape-nearly-40-year-olds (yours truly). We all loved the dogs, wandering ram and ducks. Be sure to take a refreshing dip/bath in the pond! We are looking forward to our next trip to the homestead!
