Our long weekend at Barney Lake Vista was everything we hoped for and more. The fall colors were absolutely stunning — miles and miles of golden and red trees surrounding the lake. The site itself was private, peaceful, and perfectly maintained. Even the toilet was spotless and just the right distance from camp.
The sounds of nature were constant and comforting — birds chirping all day, a few gobbling turkeys, and at night, the distant howls of what we think was a pack of coyotes. My wife joked they were celebrating something. It was beautiful to listen to, far enough away to keep the night peaceful.
The night sky was incredible — so many stars, it felt magical. Our two senior dachshunds loved it too, especially soaking up the sun in the crisp fall air.
Adam and Sarah were wonderful hosts — friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. They even dropped off a bunch of dry wood after a rainy day without us asking. It made our nights by the fire perfect.
Having grocery stores just 10 minutes away was super convenient, too. Overall, this spot is everything you want for a relaxing, scenic getaway — quiet, beautiful, and full of nature’s charm. We can’t wait to come back! 🌲🔥

This is a great private site with a view of the lake and surrounding forest. It included a level gravel pad that made our trailer set-up a breeze. We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing romantic getaway at Adam and Sara’s Barney Lake Vista. The overlooking view showcased the stunning fall colors across the landscape, creating a breathtaking backdrop for our stay. In the morning, we were delighted to see a flock of turkeys running through the open field below, adding to the charm of the location. The directions were easy to follow and find, ensuring a hassle-free arrival. The outhouse was perfectly clean, and putting the truck in four-wheel drive made easy work getting up the approach. Overall, it was a perfect weekend getaway.

Our first hipcamp experience, had a beautiful time with my wife was able to relax and not deal with the adult daily chores lol and in perfect disyajcd from Denton creek trail to ride all day and night. Will be back

This spot was easy to find, in a good location to get to both Higgins and Houghton Lake, had a nice view, and was clean. The porta potty was well kept, land was flat, and getting fire wood/having it ready when you got there was super convenient! Overall a great experience and the host had great communication and recommendations in their messages.
All other reviews talked about how quiet and peaceful it was here so I’m assuming it was unlucky timing, but a group of trucks/4 wheelers on the road were being very loud and inconsiderate to others in a few ways from 5p-3a each night. This made it quite hard to sleep or enjoy the sounds of nature, but assuming this group isn’t typical given all the other reviews of peace and quiet I wouldn’t worry?
We had a great time and enjoyed all the nature/wildlife that visits the site!

Seemed like it could be a great place.. had a big storm come through at arrival time. Ended up going home instead of settling up in storm. Sent a couple texts to hosts about not showing up but not asking for refund and never heard back from them not even a sorry but thanks makes me ponder if I should try this spot again

Totally private, nice big wide open area overlooking a lake. We sat and watched hummingbirds play in the wildflowers while we drank our coffee in the morning. Very pleasant. Has a porta potty, trash can, a little picnic table and a big fire ring. Nice to be able to opt to have our firewood waiting for us.

This place was awesome!!!! It was definitely a great spot with an amazing view!!! The porta potty a nice distance from the set up area. I will say you will 200% need bug spray! The mosquitoes are not playing around! It’s close to both Houghton Lake and Higgins Lake, which are both great places to do water activities! There are also plenty of ORV trails around to check out as well! 10 out 10!
This is a spot we’ll return to forsure!

The camp site had a great view of the lake, beautiful sunsets and a nice spacious area. Porta potty was clean, firewood was available, and there was a trash can on site which was nice. The hosts were friendly and responsive and respectful of privacy. Lots of things to do within a short drive. Be prepared for mosquitoes and deer flies this time of year, thermacell / tiki torches/ bug zapper and repellant.

It's an amazing private site with an amazing view. Very clean porta potty and nice landing pad for a trailer or motorhome. The hosts are very accommodating and make getting firewood very easy!
There isn't a lot of grass or shade trees though so if that's your vibe this may not be your space. And make sure you bring your deet, the deer flies and mosquitoes could carry you away.

Stayed one night as a stopover on the way north. Site was easy to find, spacious, and had a great view of the lake. Just make sure to bring lots of bug spray, the mosquitos are brutal.

The location is incredible with wonderful sunset views! Our kids enjoyed playing and we made a day trip out of Houghton lake shops and restaurants.

This is an amazing spot in the area with unparalleled views toward the woodlands to the north. It's a short drive from the expressway and convenient to town and nature trails alike. The hosts were great communicators, and we had no trouble finding the location. Plus, the deluxe porta-john was nice to have on-site. We will definitely return should our travels take us north again.

This spot is great, bathroom was great and up kept with, small trail on the property was great to walk our little dog. Steep hill to get up with our imported 90s van but that thing only has 89 horse power but if that thing can make it I guarantee your rig or campers can make it…. Once again it only has 89 horsepower rwd and it scooted up it with a little throttle.
Beautiful area, protected from the sunrise by the trees on the backside of the cement pad, beautiful foggy morning for us made for a late wake up. Super peaceful and will be returning

VERY clean bathroom/outhouse! Wonderful location, firewood was great, the google doc the host provides at reservation time had awrsome local suggestions of places to eat and things to do (get the feta dip!). Can't wait to stay again and stargaze.

We loved staying on Adam and Sarah's land! Reviews are spot on, and the port-a-potty was the nicest I've ever been in. There was a lot of care in the details of the property. It was the most level campsite we've ever stayed. It was so easy to set up! The views were serene, and the area is quiet. The mowed path around the property had chairs and a hammock to discover. We had a wonderful weekend away and would love to stay again. It rained most of our trip and they offered to bring us drier firewood. Thanks again for making your property available, we truly enjoyed it!

We truly enjoyed camping at Adam and Sarah’s Barney Lake Vista site. The views were great and the quietness was the best. The port-a-potty was the cleanest I have ever been in.
