This is an old gravel pit that is in the process of returning back to nature. Lots of huge piles of rocks that resemble a sci fi landscape. Wetlands, forest and fields and lots of sandy, gravel areas to park....as well some rather rugged areas not so accessible that are in the process of remediation. There is a lot of wide open sky for night viewing. Slowly adding flower gardens, huge vegetable garden, grape vines and fruit trees as well have begun making trails through part of the forest. We have water drilled but not yet accessible for use. Next year!! The property is off grid and there is no outhouse so self contained units only. Out house coming late 2025! There are 100 acres surrounded by Timberlands to explore. There is a large vernal pond we are hoping to keep filled once the well (at 50 gallons a minute!!) is accessed by solar. We swim in it when the rains are plentiful. Feel free to make a fire pit in the gravel pit. Please use all available wood for your fires!! Lots of it! We are one mile down the road from Route 3, half hour West of Belfast, 10 minutes from Lake St. George. Note that the road is often called Hidden Valley as well as Kingdom Road. This whole area is called "The Kingdom."

This area of Montville, Maine is called The Kingdom. There is one neighbor close by and much of the surrounding land is timberlands and gravel pits. Down a dirt road one mile, we are on the left. The Kingdom Road is where the original Haystack Mountain School of Art began before it moved to Deer Isle. There is hiking on Haystack Mountain and swimming near by in Lake St. George (a Spring fed lake) as well a smaller, popular local swimming hole called True's Pond. The town of Liberty is nearby which is a quaint rural town with Liberty Tool and Liberty Graphics. Great ice cream in the area (John's Ice Cream) and local breweries Threshers in Searsmont and Lake St. George Brewery. Belfast is a 30 minute direct drive on Route 3. As for camping at the Kingdom Pit, there is plenty of privacy! The pines and birches that pop up through gravel and are making their way as fencing. There are areas that can accommodate a larger group camping as well. The back of the property has a much more rough road to access and it is advised you have 4 wheel drive to get there as it is up a hill. We are working at making it a smoother ride, but lots of work to do here and it has not been our priority this year. There are mosquitos so be advised to have a screened in area or a big burning fire. Once autumn hits, you are good to go. They don't like cool weather so much. I have started a couple of trails and this is the work of the Fall, early Winter. Feel free to make trail yourselves! Do pay attention if you walk on the rock piles, never assume they are all secure!! It is a pretty unique terrain to explore. Bringing back the frogs, toads, dragonfly, birds and bees. And snakes!
