Megquier place as they used to call it. Built in 1775, Megquier farm was the first homestead in the town of New Gloucester. The house here is supposedly the oldest in New Gloucester. Situated on originally 60 now 30 acres of woodland, with trails of all sorts that weave through the property which is surrounded by mostly farmland and wooded terrain. The Megquier family who built the house had relations with local indigenous people trading cider from their orchard. They also were known to be rebellious towards English rule at the time and were involved in the local militia leading to the revolutionary war against English rule. Proof of which lies in some historic photos of family members dressed in militia uniform right in front of my house way back when. Furthermore, construction of the house itself violated the kings rule that no tree over two feet in diameter marked by the kings agents was to be harvested. However, the roof sheathing in the house are two feet wide at least. Interesting to review the history of mast landing in Freeport Maine, just a few miles away. More recent undocumented history of this property is just as interesting. I’m told that during the Vietnam war period, many people resided here in commune to resist the draft for that illegal war. They camped along what was once a pond here on a sunny hillside with towering Hemlock trees. Proof of which lies just under the ground such as old beer bottle and cans from that time as well as the rusted front end of an old International Harvester bus similar the one Ken Keasey and the merry pranksters drove around the US with. Pretty cool. I’m told that this place has a cool vibe to it, in the house and around the property. Hopefully I’m keeping that intact. After 7 years here I’ve created a network of trails for biking, skiing and exploring. I’ve carved out a nice high and dry hilltop camp with two 12’x12’ platforms and a composting outhouse. It’s situated on the most isolated area of the property. It’s quiet, private and gets great afternoon/evening light. Totally chill place to isolate. And mountain bike. There are approximately 7 kilometers of private bike trails to explore and more always being created. Very close to other local biking trial networks via some road sections or a quick shuttle to other trailheads. Also there’s a decent little sandy swimming hole a mile down the road. This camp is brand new this summer. I’m hoping to attract people who love mountain biking. Learn more about this land: Winter camping available. Private isolated campsite on 30 acres. I’ve constructed two 12’x12’ platforms at the top of the hill along with a custom built composting outhouse and huge stone fire pit. Park your vehicle in the field near the trailhead and hike in to the camp or bring your four wheel drive vehicle right to the site. Utility cart available. I will provide all the wood you need for a campfire. As well as a water source located at the field. Approximately 7 kilometers of trail and counting. Bring your dog so long as it is behaved. You’ll be able to bike directly from here all the way to Bradbury Mountain state park and back (about 3-4 hrs) or easily drive to multiple trail networks. Pineland Farms located 1 mile away. 15 minutes to Bradbury Mountain state park. 20 minutes to Freeport Maine and LL Bean. 30 minute drive to downtown Portland. 10 minute drive to the nearest store. You’ll be all by yourself out there but close enough to hear the road nearby. You may see people riding a bike down on the main trail but you’ll be all set on top of the camp hill. This spot was absolutely perfect. Isolated, quiet, private, safe, relaxing and recharging. The roads are a bit sketchy, but Subaru-able. I built a big-ass fire with the free seasoned wood and slept in my hammock. My car was 15’ away from the fire, parked directly at the site. Besides the crackle of the fire, the only other sounds were peepers, insects, birds, and maybe an occasional distant siren. No people. Beautiful clear night sky. Host provides firewood, buckets of kindling, buckets of non drinkable water, and a trash can. The outhouse was clean! I would 100009% stay here again.

Love this place very private. The children loved it. Jason campsite was campfire ready just light it up. Even equipped with enough wood that wood last for days Very thoughtful layout for tent platforms. 4Wd is a must. We drove on a dirt path all the way up to the site it was pretty adventurous. Outhouse is a plus. Thank you for sharing this awesome land😀.

We had a great time camping on Jason's land. He has put a lot of thought and care into the gravel paths and campsite itself, and it made for an awesome experience. Super private, clean outhouse, and more firewood than you'll ever need. We had a nice time walking on Littlejohn Island and hanging out at the beach on Cousin's Island. Highly recommend Day's seafood nearby in Yarmouth for lunch or dinner. Jason helped us find the swimming hole, which was quaint and private and refreshing! It was an all around great time :) Thanks, Jason!

Great campsite for camper van!

We stayed in the field view spot, which worked out perfectly for us. Enough space for 2 camper vans plus our jeep. The dogs loved being able to run through the woods and exploring the trails Jason has throughout the land. The firewood, camp torch, and little extras he provides was a very nice touch. We hope to stay again!

My teen son and I loved the campsite. It was private and quiet without being in the middle of nowhere. Lots of trees. The firepit/firewood is the best part. I did struggle to know for sure if it was the right site. We didn’t get in until after dark so that didn’t help. There are arrows to follow. I just didn’t realize there would be connecting dirt roads that had me overthinking I was in the wrong spot. I also did not find any watering hole but we did end up at nearby lake for swimming. Jason was great to accommodate us so last minute. We were comfortable and really loved the wooded space. We did site 1 and would love to come back to check out site 2 in the future. This was a great place to camp, and Jason was extremely accommodating with my very last minute booking (6 PM the day of arrival). I was looking for a place nearby to take my dog for his first night camping, and this was perfect. A big site surrounded by woods and fields, with trails and woods roads to explore. The firepit was well stocked with firewood and kindling and the directions made it easy to find.

Total seclusion close to Portland

Found this site last minute on Memorial Day weekend and it was so much better than a traditional campground (which were all booked). It was only about a 40 minute drive from South Portland but felt like an entirely different place. Tons of firewood provided, and no check-in was necessary. Just followed the arrows to the site and set up camp. Very peaceful and quiet. A couple spots along the gravel road may require a certain level of clearance but it wasn’t an issue in my 4Runner.

Camping on Jason's land was great! We reserved last minute and he had the site ready for us upon arrival. He was attentive and answered all questions we had. If you're a mountain biking fan his land is the perfect spot! The trails are well groomed and ready for you. We had plenty of firewood and felt comfortable reaching out if we needed anything knowing we would get a speedy response. Definitely recommend!

Very nice camp site!

The site was really nice. Fire pit and camp wood made for a nice evening. The platforms were great and made you feel like you were in the trees. We drove in close to the site in our Honda Odyssey. There was a final steep pitch that seemed dodgy but was ultimately okay. If you have a higher vehicle you shouldn't have an issue. I don't think that 4WD or AWD is necessary, just better ground clearance than a minivan. Lot of horseflys on the drive in but the site was almost completely bug free. Would absolutely come back
