Located on the Flint Hills Trail State Park in Allen Kansas, Basecamp Flint Hills offers camping in the scenic Flint Hills of Kansas. BFH is 20 miles north of the world capital of gravel cycling, Emporia KS, and 20 miles east of historical Council Grove. Ideally suited for tent camping, BFH has hammock trees and shaded acreage. Two back-in camper sites with power and water are also available for those who prefer a bit more luxury. This is a community style campground where picnic tables and campfires will be shared with your neighbors. We encourage you to expand your circle and enjoy the experience! Seasonal facilities include an open air, cold water shower and port-a-potty available April through October. BFH - Boondock Sites
Giant Horse Flies
The site looked great, no one else there. An infestation of huge horse flies prevented me from even getting out of the car, afraid to open a window. I can stand bugs, but this was the craziest swarm I've ever seen. Hitting the car, buzzing around, landing, about 1.5 to 2" long. Like they would eat the tires! drove around the site, no change. Left the area, came back about 45 mins later, still the same or worse. Left the area at dusk to find alternative site at Shawnee Lake. I realize this problem is not in the hosts control, so I don't want this review posted, it's just info for the hosts. I think it was August 26th.

Super clean Porta-potty and showers! A great place to come off the Flint Hills Trail for a rest.

Flint hills bike trip
Great site, right off the trail, plenty of space for hammocks and tents. Shower was great. Would ask that there be at least one outlet ran to the tent/hammock section to allow phone charging.
