The property was originally built in the late 1800s and was named the buckhorn lodge. Stories I've heard is it was originally located across the street on a large amount of acreage, and was lost in a poker game and moved across the road to its location now in the early 1900s. Whether this story is true I'm yet to find but I have heard from family of original owner that it was sold and that the poker game was real I'm yet to find the truth. Either way a few cabins were moved to the new location along with a meat processing building that still stands. I've heard that the original builder Charlie made moonshine in this building. The lodge is hand carved two stories with a semi commercial kitchen. It was started to be rebuilt in the 1930s. They did hunting packages, fishing by the lb, weddings, and dances here at the lodge. Along with lush gardens a small cafe and lodging. Many different ppl have owned it since then unsure how many. I have owned it for 3 years. It's big hunting territory out here world record buck was harvested just 4 miles away. The wildlife is unreal out here from elk deer moose mountain lions bobcat turkey rabbit badger coyote fox wild bear geese you name it. We are located at base of lone cone mountain, at the end of dissapointment valley. There is many stories about this area and settlers coming here. Still haven't got a exact story on why it's called dissapointment valley. I've heard because they didn't find gold, I've heard that the creek has ran dry often here and caused loss of livestock, early settlers when coming this way thought it was animas valley which is one ridege over and got stuck here for a bad winter and many died and all livestock. I'm still new to the area and finding out as much as I can. We are located between Dolores and Norwood Colorado on a old historic rite of way "the Dolores Norwood road". We are almost an hour on dirt any way in. From Norwood you come in through the uncompagre national forest, and from Dolores through the San Juan national forest. Many lakes on this road including the second biggest mcfee lake. Also groundhog reservoir, miramonte resevoir, gurley reservoir, Taylor lake, Belmour lake, and many other private lakes and ponds including 7 stocked trout ponds on the property. There is endless hiking trails Jeep and atv trails rite out the gate including biggest trail head in southern Colorado boggy draw which is 100s of miles of trails. Best snowmobiling in the area, an old ski hill across the road which used to be part of the lodge. Telluride is close drive from the property. It's a beautiful area which landscapes drastically change any way go drive or hike, from high mountains, to foothills and mesas, to farm land to desert. Beautiful all times of year not a lot of places like this left. I have purchased it and have named my buisiness lone cone mountain resort, I am in the process of turning it into full resort with rv park and camp ground, organic restaurant, country store, lodging, fishing by the lb, hunting packages, atv, Jeep, boat, snow mobile rentals, guided horseback rides, any exclusive vacation packages we can come up with. It's a work in progress and I am currently in a full remodel at the moment and theming every cabin and campsite. The rock and mineral content on the property is awesome geodes everywhere and fossils. We are working towards off the grid self sufficiency. We are available for event rentals, such as weddings, festivals, family reunions etc. you can rent the whole place or single cabins or camp sites and rv spots, or just come fish or relax for the day. I'm really exited to share it with anyone who wants to visit. I'm very open easy going guy and this is a place to be free just respect it and the vibe. We are pet freindly, cannabis freindly but keep to yourself. It's a family oriented place. I am bringing this place back to life after being closed for 20 plus years of being closed. We need all the visitors possible. If your looking for privacy and a getaway from everything this is it. Keep in mind it's way out here come prepared with food water etc. the only cell service here on the property is ATT. Wifi does come with a few cabin rentals, and there are extra hotspots if you would like to load them up with data on your own. Come experience it for your self.
