History of JW Durango Riverside Resort It all started in 1965… When this campground hosted its first guests the goal back then was simply to offer folks from around the Four Corners a place to relax and lounge along the Animas River. Today, the property boasts 73 quality RV sites, 24 cabins and 6 tent sites. We also have a heated pool, playground, convenience store, retail shop, game room, café with a large deck for dining, laundry room, paved roadways, two bath houses, and an observation deck overlooking the Animas. The property sits just south of Bakers Bridge, a local landmark made famous as the set of the climactic finale in the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” – where Paul Newman and Robert Redford sat along the rocky cliffs that line the river before they famously took the plunge. As the lifeblood of this community, the Animas River winds its way under that bridge and south toward historic downtown Durango. Everyone from whitewater enthusiasts and acclaimed fly fisherman to laidback locals in inner tubes enjoy the same flowing mountain waters miners have tapped for more than a century. Back in 1965, the population of Durango was just over 10,000 and La Plata County almost 20,000. Today, the city itself is home to 20,000 residents while the county is closing in on a staggering 58,000. As more and more people discover the beauty and majesty of the San Juan National Forest and surrounding Rocky Mountain peaks, the number of people flocking to the Four Corners region continues to grow. Whether hiking, biking, horseback riding, or four-wheeling this area has an endless number of adventures to uncover. Even if it takes a lifetime to explore some of the forgotten roads in this region, these outdoor experiences offer just a glimpse of what there is to do when you visit. People come from around the world to ride the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, listen to songs and stories from the Bar D Wranglers, hit the slopes at Purgatory Resort, or hug the guardrails along the legendary Million Dollar Highway. These are just a few of the reasons people continue to come back year after year, and generation after generation. Even here at Durango Riverside, we constantly listen to stories from guests who first came here as children and now return with their own. It really is easy to find places where you can experience some of the wonders this community has to offer. But, there’s only one place where you can relax and lounge along the Animas River with friends and family, making memories that will stick with you for generations – Durango Riverside.

Durango Tent Camping Sites | JW Durango Riverside Resort Located along the Animas River in Hermosa Valley, JW Durango Riverside Resort has tent camping sites with water and electric hookups. Durango Tent Camping Sites When you want to be immersed in nature and close to outdoor adventure in Durango, choose one of our tent camping sites. We are in Hermosa Valley, just a few miles from the edge of the San Juan National Forest. Campers prefer JW Durango Riverside because of our prime location and beauty of the campground. We have six tent sites with water and electric hookups. Pets are allowed. Site sizes vary, so call for more information. We can help you pick the right spot for your equipment and vehicle! Tent camping guests have access to our park amenities including a swimming pool (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), playground, dog park, Café, large deck, community firepit, game room and camp store. Rates include 2 adults, 2 kids, and 1 pet. Additional person and pet fees apply. Check-in at 2pm, Check-out at 11am. Tent Site Features: Gravel pad Water & electric hookups Picnic table and fire ring Parking for one vehicle Each site includes one parking spot, but there is some overflow parking available. We have a gravel lot off property for trailers and off-road vehicles. Please keep in mind that parking is limited. This Contemporary Cabin overlooks the Hermosa Valley and Missionary Ridge. It has a spacious living area which includes, a kitchenette with a two burner cooktop, sink, microwave, coffee maker, midsize refrigerator, TV, dinette table and chairs and a futon that pulls out to a queen sized bed. The one bedroom includes a queen bed and the bathroom features a custom designed shower. Linens are provided, along with towels and basic kitchen utensils. We do not offer housekeeping services during your stay, but we do have a laundromat for guests to use. Outside the cabin is a porch with a table and chairs and beyond is a picnic table, BBQ grill, fire ring and a beautiful view of the meadow and mountains. This was my favorite campground and campsite for my cross country trip. I would have stayed several days had my schedule permitted it. I was on site 109 and it was such a great spot for stargazing! Loved having the picnic table, fire ring, water and electrical hookup! Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful surroundings. Host was very well organized for my late arrival, and very helpful when I needed assistance. Love this place!

I had a great time with my son here for a few days. We used it as a home base and spent most of our time exploring the area. The front office was very accommodating which I thought was very nice. There is a little camp store and a game room there too! Showers and bathrooms were clean. The sky is amazing!

Riverfront Deluxe Glamping Cabin
Beautiful! Staff was very nice. We had a beautiful riverside cabin. The river was raging when we arrived due to days of downpours. I was concerned about potential flooding. While it was not near flood level, they kindly and quickly moved us to a cabin several hundred feet from the river bank.

Great campground! Everything was clean, staff was friendly the views are amazing!!! I highly recommend the Durango Hot Springs and Spa down the street! We went for a two hour soak and it was absolutely spectacular!!! Close proximity to the Spa and downtown were convient and the peaceful less of the campground were the perfect combination! We enjoyed our stay and will be back!!

We had a great stay with our RV. The Saturday evening karaoke was fun. The little restaurant was awesome too. Very nice kept and clean park.

Loved Glamping by the River!
1 Room Riverfront Glamping Cabin
Had such a great time! We stayed in the one-room glamping cabin with beautiful views of the river right outside our front door. The bathhouses were very clean, and the showers had excellent water pressure and got nice and hot. The cabin itself was a big upgrade compared to tent camping. The bed was super comfortable (the pillows could have been better, so I recommend bringing your own). The fridge and microwave were a nice touch, and we appreciated that linens, towels, and trash pick-up were all provided. The activities each night were fun and cute, and the pool was clean and heated. Overall, the whole place was quiet, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we are already looking forward to coming back!

Everything Awesome Except WiFi

We had a great stay and loved how well maintained the property was, the shaded space gave relief from the heat and the views were amazing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Fellow campers were helpful when we had issues with our Harley being stuck in chuck on the trailer, which was incredibly helpful. The only negative was that the free WiFi was awful. We were warned when we checked in. I wish they would have included better service without an upcharge. Honestly, if they had added it to the daily rate, I would have paid it without thinking twice.

The best campsite ever in Durango.

This is a beautiful campground right on the river. The sites are a good size and easy to get into. The camp host is fantastic and my stay here was memorable. The weather was absolutely beautiful. The facility has a pool, movie night, a great store for sundry items and excellent staff. They are a very helpful giving you suggestions on places to go, to eat, and to enjoy yourself. There is plenty to do in Durango Colorado. This campsite is not right in downtown area, but that makes it even better. You truly feel like you are in the wilderness camping. I highly recommend this location to anyone who wants to enjoy a great campground in the beautiful Durango Colorado.

It was cramped and uncomfortable the amount of people all over each other. The tent site felt like a rip off I couldn’t even use the fire pit and picnic table comfortably because of being placed on the side of a hill, the only thing that could fit was my tent. It was miserable and didn’t even feeling like camping. Very disappointed and misleading.

Communication with the host was great. They were responsive and communicative especially knowing I would be arriving after hours. The information for my site was easy to find and I was able to get set up with no issues upon arrival. The site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and enough space for my SUV, tent and there was plenty extra room should I have had extra persons in my party. Many of the neighbors had hammocks hanging as well. The campground itself offers bathrooms and hot water showers (yesssss). And the in-site store had everything I could’ve needed. It’s a beautiful spot right near the water and close to town. It was a perfect stay after a day spent in Mesa Verde followed by a soak in Durango Hot Springs. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful, clean, and well-maintained campground. We felt safe and comfortable during our stay. Even with a tent spot near the pool area, our site was peaceful and quiet. We'll stay here again!

My family had a great time! Easy check in and out, clean cabin, pool, restroom and showers. At night very quiet, with the beautiful river sound right outside. Great location as well.

Perfect spot by the river
1 Room Riverfront Glamping Cabin
I loved the amenities of the campground and glamping cabin. We booked this as a break from tent camping during a trip to the Colorado national parks and it had everything we needed. The proximity of the cabin to the river made the site feel private and peaceful. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. There is no air conditioning in the cabin so it could get hot during the day but stayed cool at night. I would recommend to anyone and stay again!

The camp site was great to stay at! Checking in was super easy. I went straight to the office when I arrived where I was given a parking pass, told my campsite and shown the amenities. The camp site had a fire pit and a picnic table, plus enough rough for me to pitch my tent and park my car. Bathrooms were super clean and had hot water to shower. It was a plus they had a camping store as I forgot some essentials like shampoo and ice to buy. The pool was clean and super nice as well. There’s also free WiFi at the campsite and an option to purchase a faster version for the day. The WiFi was great since I lacked service in the area. Definitely would stay here again.

We had a Great stay at River side. Beautiful location and close enough to town, clean ,nice camping spots. The only issue we had was the water for camping. I would recommend not hooking up. We had to flush our system to get all the smelly water out at our next stop.

1 Room Rustic Cabin
Staying at JW was great. The rustic cabin was perfect for 2 snuggly adults and 2 teens. We were just yards from the observation deck over the river but there isn’t river access in the camp. The kids loved the pool and the game room. The site was clean and well cared for. The showers were hot as well as the water for washing dishes. We will be back!
