Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Granite Tabernacle gets its name from a giant rock that split causing a tent (tabernacle is a fancy word for tent) to form. The Tabernacle is ultra-private campsite and, at 1,420 ft elevation, is the highest campsite with incredible views. The Granite Tabernacle campsite provides a designated fire pit, table + chairs, outdoor sink and potable water. It is accessible by any standard vehicle, however you will drive about a mile on gravel roads. Set-up your own tent or rent one from us by adding on a 13-ft empty bell tent to sleep up to 8 on the floor, or add up to 4 cots per tent. Get a full glamping experience with our canvas bell tent, mattress, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. Jurassic Jungle

The most private, scenic, and wild campsite at Splitrock Farm and Retreat, Jurassic Jungle campsite sits at the very bottom of Splitrock Valley's campsites, tucked away against a natural spring and creek that flows almost all year under a canopy of live oaks with enough palms and boulders mixed throughout that it seems you are in Jurassic Park. The temp under the canopy stays 15-20 degrees cooler. There is space to fit around 6 tents/vehicles total (e.g. 3 cars, 3 tents) in the Jurassic Jungle area. It is the largest of the Splitrock Valley campsites. However, the road down to Jurassic Jungle can get slippery and it is steep in a couple spots, so some vehicles may want to park at the top pad and walk down 130 yards into the jungle. There is a 22ft by 22ft deck with synthetic turf that can be used for setting up tables, picnics, yoga, or your tent. Consider adding 13-ft bell tents that can sleep up to 8 on the floor on mats or sleeping bags, or 4 cots or we can fully glamp it up with mattresses, bedding, and tables for 2 people. These add-ons can be added at the time of booking or requested later. The Oak Grove Communal Camping

The Oak Grove Communal camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. The communal/shared space is the "Stonetable" zone with picnic tables, wood burning grill, potable water spicket, and a large granite table. The Oak Grove has toilets and an outdoor propane heated shower for all guests to share. There are 18 numbered sites that are first come, first serve. Each site is unique, with some under the oak canopy and others spread around the prairie near boulder outcrops or other trees. Each site has a firepit. It is strictly one vehicle per booking/site. Please make a separate booking for every vehicle you are bringing. Groups that book 3 or more sites may contact us so we can reserve a cluster of sites together before your arrival. The entire Oak Grove area can also be booked, look for the 'Oak Grove Group Camping Site' on Splitrock or contact us. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. Shady Splitrock Spring

The Shady Splitrock Spring is at the heart of Splitrock Farm and Retreat, and is a true oasis with a natural spring that feeds a small pond surrounded by beautiful ancient palms, oaks, agave, pepper, and pines that soar over 100 feet to grab the ever-present ocean breezes. The rustling of the trees is meditative, and attracts a variety of birds and other animals. The former homesteaders built an outdoor fire grill that is available for use alongside the firepit and gazebo that was part of the homestead built in the 1920s-1960s. The Steelbox Spa is right across the road and has flushing toilets, hot showers, and ask about a massage. There is room to setup 4-6 tents, or back in a 32ft RV within the fenced area. Ideal for small events (25 or less), there is a nice pad overlooking the pond that can be used to set-up tables, yoga, and more. The Spring is often visited by the free range goats, alpaca, sheep, pigs, and Great Pyrenees, who are all over-friendly to people, kids, and dogs....as long as they are respected. Please do not book Shady Spring if you or your dogs are uncomfortable around farm animals. The Shady Spring has a fence along the road that helps keep animals and kids safe, however it is not fenced all the way around, only along the road. Please be careful around the pond as it is not separately fenced and is deeper than it looks. Do you see the T-Rex face in the granite wall? T-Rex Creek is a small, private campsite on the bank of a seasonal creek under a canopy of oaks. The campsite has a private campfire and picnic area tucked between the boulders and oaks that provide plenty of shade. The tent pad can only fit one tent due to rocks and creek, with parking across the road. Therefore, 4 people with 1 vehicle and 1 tent max. There is a restroom with shower at the Camp Shop, a 1-2 minute walk away. Splitrock Farm and Retreat offers guests access to 101 acres of land, which includes beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean to the southwest and Big Bear and Mount Jacinto to the northeast. Guests have access to 6+ miles of walking and biking trails, including the Splitrock 5K (3.12 miles) that covers most of the property and all the key features and viewpoints. Feel free to explore the farm, engage with the animals, and share photos! Splitrock offers wellness activities such as morning yoga, sunset sound bath, eBike rentals, baby goat encounters, and other experiences that you can add before check-out or pay on-site at the Camp Shop. The Camp Shop has all the camping essentials Splitrock is located 5 miles from downtown Fallbrook, 14 miles from wine tasting in Temecula, and a mile east of Camp Pendleton Nature Preserve. The Santa Margarita River Trail has a large parking lot 3 miles from Splitrock on the way into Fallbrook. It's a beautiful trail along a natural river lined with trees, and you can find the locals swimming hole and tire swings where the river meets the road. Finally, the Santa Rosa Plateau offers miles of trails nearby. Keep children in sight and be mindful as there is a variety of wildlife that visit frequently, including coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, foxes, snakes, hawks, spiders, and more. The entire Oak Grove Group Camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. This is great for large group bookings and can accommodate 150+ guests. The Oak Grove is normally bookable in 16 sites with our Oak Grove Communal Camping booking, and therefore we need to confirm its availability for a private group and block off the 16 sites, which is why we need to approve your request to book. You may book several of the Oak Grove Communal sites and cluster them together for smaller groups that do not need the entire site. Please contact us for more information. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. It is the perfect site for family or friends to gather around the fire, play games, or snooze and listen to the sounds of the rustling oaks. On a clear day, you can see the blue horizon of the Pacific Ocean, and its constant breeze further cools the air under the oak canopy. You may set up your own tents, and we also offer add-on items to make your stay with us a full glamping experience by renting additional canvas bell tents, cots, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. The Oak Grove has propane heated showers and toilet. The spacious setting allows for families with children to ride bikes and play freely, with visits from our free range farm animals for the ultimate petting zoo experience! Luna is the name of this cute Bambi Airstream that rests at Cloudcrest campsite, named because it often sits above the coastal fog so it appears to crest above the fluffy white sea. Luna comes equipped with a double bed, toilet, shower, and kitchenette. The door opens to a 10x8 patio and a large pad for picnic or additional tent. A short path leads up to the firepit with a boulder bench and recliner that is perfect for stargazing. A bell tent can be added on to your booking so you can add beds to the site since Luna only sleeps 2 people.... in case the kids want to camp out. Please do not book more than 2 people without adding a tent rental or bringing your own tent. There is not room inside Luna for more than 2 people. This place was absolutely magical. The observatory deck has stunning 360° views overlooking both the mountains and the ocean, truly breathtaking. Ben, the owner, was so friendly and welcoming, and his hospitality really made the stay feel special. The camp host was also incredibly sweet and helpful; she greeted me when I arrived, directed me to my campsite, and stayed communicative the whole time. The property itself is gorgeous, peaceful, tranquil, and serene. Goats roam freely around the land, and the owners’ shepherd‑like dogs were such a sweet addition to the experience. It felt like stepping into a little off‑grid paradise. The amenities were great too: off‑grid hot showers, flushable toilets, and everything was clean and well maintained. Such a beautiful space and an unforgettable stay. I’ll definitely be back. 😊

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
Splitrock was one of the biggest highlights of our trip from San Diego all the way up to San Fransisco RV camping all the way. We camped 11 nights and chose to spend three of them at split Rock, making it out last stop in the way back down. The grounds are AWESOME, tons of great walks and nature, extraordinary views at night, minimal light pollution so you could see many cobstillations and plants from the very cool observation deck. My son lived the goats. The bathroom and facilities were clean and ample throughout the grounds. We stayed at the communal campground and also at a Van Life site one night were we met some very cool folks who were also van camping. Great walks and light level hiking throughout. The folks we met camp hosting were also super friendly and helpful. Also, Fallbrook is very close by with a grocery store and a couple nice taco spots and stuff. Lastly, the drive up and back down to and from the grounds is incredibly beautiful with awesome twistys and excellent views. All in all, I could not recommend Splitrock more highly, and this is after camping up and down the coast in all sorts of places. 5 stars all day.

Granite Tabernacle Private Views
I love how far you are from other campers. Also our site had a stunning view. The fire pit area was great as well. Two water faucets near by was convenient. We met one of the dogs watching over the sheep and she was super friendly. My kids were really fond of her. Met Ben on our last day after checking out. Seems like a nice fella.

Hilltop Hideout
A great experience for a first time HipCamper. Last minute decisions led us to this spot. We normally do BLM but with the recent weather, we decided to do something closer to home. We were pleasantly surprised at how awesome the view was. You can see as for as you can. The sunrise and sunset alone lets you appreciate the little things in life. We were at hilltop hideout for the night. It was 5 vehicles and 7 people. There’s a few spots that are flat but if you’re in a RTT like us, you’ll want to bring leveling blocks or look for some rocks to help level out your vehicle. The fire pit up top was nice. Just sat around and talked for a few hours and just tell stories. We didn’t meet Ben at first but everything was pretty smooth. Having a bathroom nearby and running water at our campground was very nice. The goats that roam the place along with the barn cats and guardian dogs are very friendly. Would recommend staying here. PS: The observation deck is also something everybody should check out!

What an amazing experience! Ben has created such a special property. We arrived late Friday and stayed till Monday. So much to enjoy. The property is huge and offers fun walks and mild hikes. The highlight was the goats! We were lucky enough to arrive the week the new baby goats were born! What a treat.

Granite Gulch
We loved everything about it. The facilities are really well kept, and the campsites are so far away from each other that it feels you are alone... lots of interesting hiking and let's not forget the stars of this trip, baby goats! Oh my they were adorable. Everyone is very friendly therevas well. 10/10 super recommended.

Hilltop Hideout
We really enjoyed camping at the Hilltop Hideout spot - the views were beautiful and the site feels very private. There’s a water spigot right at the site, along with a firepit, table, chairs, and plenty of space for a larger group (we were just two people and a dog). My wife loved playing with the baby goats, and our dog had a great time checking out all the farm animals. The owner’s dogs were friendly and chill - they stopped by once to say hello. The camp store was also pretty convenient. We did run into a small hiccup at arrival, as another camper was already set up at our site, which meant waiting while things got sorted out and setting up in the dark. The owner came quickly and resolved it, but it was a bit of a scramble for everyone involved. We also had some early-morning 6am noise from kids hanging around our campsite; not the owner’s fault, but clearer communication of quiet hours might help future guests. Overall though, we had a great stay and would recommend it.

Hilltop Hideout
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Splitrock’s Hilltop Hideaway. We had the whole area to ourselves and stayed on the upper level which gave way to spectacular views of the entire valley. We had an unexpected treat as a whole tribe of goats came up and hung out with us for a while and one of their sweet dogs. Looking forward to going back in the summer and would highly recommend.

This place has the most incredible views and vantage points to see the surrounding hills, mountains, meadows, ocean etc. Am so happy I discovered it. It is laid out really well and has something for every type of camper. You feel like you’ve gone so far away and yet it is right here in our north county backyard!

Overall we had a great experience love the place but my campsite had a fire ring in really bad condition, the table almost broken it wasnot clen when we got there, but off course we will be back.

Splitrock was a great campsite! We weren’t expecting such beautiful and spacious setups with running water, bathrooms and even a grill! The grill seemed to have some trouble with the gas and I was only able to get the burner to work but otherwise it was fantastic! 10/10 will be returning!

Granite Tabernacle Private Views
We stayed two nights at Tabernacle and loved it! Very private, beautiful views, cool site, huge rocks and places to explore. Loved the goats that came through our site, though they tried to climb on our table as we were eating breakfast. The farm itself is fun and peaceful, we also did the baby goats experience and the kids loved it!

This campsite is in a neat location with boulders and trails. We stayed in the Vanlife area. We arrived a dark, which made it difficult to determine where our spot was. I suggest arriving in daylight.

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
Some of the nicer sites were gorgeous. The drive up was a bit intense on a winding cliff road. Make sure you know what site you’re going to. I tired to ask but when I got there the signage was unclear. They made me take down my set up after dark and move to a different site, even though I followed the Oak Grove sign. The host said “sorry you have to move your shit” and left after giving me incorrect directions to the other site. I am a female solo traveling and could not see to set up my tent and everything again in the dark so had to get a motel. When I requested a refund since I didn’t even stay the night the host accused me of messing up another campers trip and purposefully choosing the expensive site. When it was just an accident because their signage was unclear. Hipcamp refunded me but the hosts refused and sent a very rude text in response to my request. I wish I had a better experience, it was beautiful there but unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay and woudnt return without booking the more expensive sites or being able to check the whole camp ground to make sure I’m in the right area.

I loved van camping at Benjamin's land! We stayed at the horizon camp for one night but should have stayed more! The view was beautiful and it was very quiet. Perfect!

Best spot in Fallbrook

If youre looking for a great camping deal near SD, this is only an hour away drive. Horizon is one of the best spots! We loved the views, especially on flatrock during sun set. The whole farm is huge and beautiful. Can’t miss the observation view deck and take a picture on the rock (front of deck). The goats were friendly, except the white big one lol it was SUPER friendly it follows you when you start petting him. Toilet and showers are spot on clean. Only draw back I can think of is the distance from our spot to the toilet and potable water. It was at least 3-5 minutes walk, so bring your own portable toilet for over nighters. We’ll be back soon!

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
The restrooms at this campground were very clean, and we were able to stay very comfortably. I went with my son, and we felt very safe the entire time. We enjoyed walking around and checking out the different sites, and my son especially loved interacting with the goats. He had such a great time. It was a beautiful place, and we would definitely love to come back again.

Hidden gem!

Jurassic Jungle
This is a very fun campsite! Lots and lots of space and the platform is great flat surface for a tent and the easy turf makes it extra nice. There’s also a second flat space included in the site for a second tent setup if you want one. There are loads of goats up on the higher levels so you’ll see them if you walk or drive through the camp. A few things to keep in mind; for the Jurassic site, the bathroom is quite a ways from your site. Fine to hike to or drive to during the day, but if you get up in the middle of the night to go, it may be an issue. Also as great as it was to have a fire pit nestled in to the rocks, the rocks are home to some critters 😅 which we discovered once it got dark and the nocturnal animals start getting active. Totally comes with the territory of camping, but just be aware. All in all a great place; eager to check out some of the other sites. It’s a beautiful little community they’ve got there. Very cool.

Rock Bottom w/ a View from the Top
We absolutely LOVED our stay here! The campgrounds are wonderful, well set up/ spread out, and super easy to find. We had an amazing time taking in the views, climbing rocks, and exploring the area. Will definitely be coming back again

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
If you only visit one Hipcamp in your life, this should be on the list. This is not a layover stop as you travel up and down southern California, but rather it truly is a destination. Without hesitation the most enjoyable places we have ever experienced using Hipcamp. We stayed during early February and were glad we had the amazing trees within the communal compound to provide shade. There is history here. You can tell this was a working farm in earlier days. And then Ben and perhaps others have a vision of what the land and amenities is for travelers and he truly has we nomads in mind. It’s just the right amount of conveniences nestled within a beautiful hilltop escape. We had the central compound all to ourselves. That is for the herd of goats that maintain the landscaping. Quite a treat to enjoy an afternoon watching them graze in the 80° sun. Ben has done a great job making the roads or trails well groomed for any vehicle and we took numerous dog walks in all different directions. Adding to the experience is what we considered to be his extremely fair pricing. Not just for Southern California but for everywhere we have visited. We shall return. Thank you, Ben.

I would absolutely recommend for anyone even remotely considering taking a trip here to do it. I had such a peaceful night. You have to go play with the goats. The hilltop hideout had an amazing view and it felt so isolated and quiet. The dogs and cats were so sweet too. Definitely coming back at some point.

This place was pretty amazing. You feel like you’re sitting on top of the mountain with goats just roaming and enjoying life. The scenery and space was quite special.
