Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Granite Tabernacle gets its name from a giant rock that split causing a tent (tabernacle is a fancy word for tent) to form. The Tabernacle is ultra-private campsite and, at 1,420 ft elevation, is the highest campsite with incredible views. The Granite Tabernacle campsite provides a designated fire pit, table + chairs, outdoor sink and potable water. It is accessible by any standard vehicle, however you will drive about a mile on gravel roads. Set-up your own tent or rent one from us by adding on a 13-ft empty bell tent to sleep up to 8 on the floor, or add up to 4 cots per tent. Get a full glamping experience with our canvas bell tent, mattress, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. The most private, scenic, and wild campsite at Splitrock Farm and Retreat, Jurassic Jungle campsite sits at the very bottom of Splitrock Valley's campsites, tucked away against a natural spring and creek that flows almost all year under a canopy of live oaks with enough palms and boulders mixed throughout that it seems you are in Jurassic Park. The temp under the canopy stays 15-20 degrees cooler. There is space to fit around 6 tents/vehicles total (e.g. 3 cars, 3 tents) in the Jurassic Jungle area. It is the largest of the Splitrock Valley campsites. However, the road down to Jurassic Jungle can get slippery and it is steep in a couple spots, so some vehicles may want to park at the top pad and walk down 130 yards into the jungle. There is a 22ft by 22ft deck with synthetic turf that can be used for setting up tables, picnics, yoga, or your tent. Consider adding 13-ft bell tents that can sleep up to 8 on the floor on mats or sleeping bags, or 4 cots or we can fully glamp it up with mattresses, bedding, and tables for 2 people. These add-ons can be added at the time of booking or requested later. The Oak Grove Communal Camping

The Oak Grove Communal camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. The communal/shared space is the "Stonetable" zone with picnic tables, wood burning grill, potable water spicket, and a large granite table. The Oak Grove has toilets and an outdoor propane heated shower for all guests to share. There are 18 numbered sites that are first come, first serve. Each site is unique, with some under the oak canopy and others spread around the prairie near boulder outcrops or other trees. Each site has a firepit. It is strictly one vehicle per booking/site. Please make a separate booking for every vehicle you are bringing. Groups that book 3 or more sites may contact us so we can reserve a cluster of sites together before your arrival. The entire Oak Grove area can also be booked, look for the 'Oak Grove Group Camping Site' on Splitrock or contact us. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. It is the perfect site for family or friends to gather around the fire, have a BBQ, play games, or snooze and listen to the sounds of the rustling oaks. On a clear day, you can see the blue horizon of the Pacific Ocean, and its constant breeze further cools the air under the oak canopy. Kids, especially grown-up kids like me, will love exploring all the giant rocks with little caverns. It feels like Joshua Tree, but private with ocean views. This is a BYO tent or RV site. The tents in the pics are add-ons. you can add-on bell tents to make your stay with us a full glamping experience by renting additional canvas bell tents, cots, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. The lower pad is large enough to park and maneuver RVs up to 60 feet overall length with tow vehicle. Please drive the long way around via the Oak Grove with larger rigs to avoid the steep road up from the Splitrock Spring. The Shady Splitrock Spring is at the heart of Splitrock Farm and Retreat, and is a true oasis with a natural spring that feeds a small pond surrounded by beautiful ancient palms, oaks, agave, pepper, and pines that soar over 100 feet to grab the ever-present ocean breezes. The rustling of the trees is meditative, and attracts a variety of birds and other animals. The former homesteaders built an outdoor fire grill that is available for use alongside the firepit and gazebo that was part of the homestead built in the 1920s-1960s. The Steelbox Spa is right across the road and has flushing toilets, hot showers, and ask about a massage. There is room to setup 4-6 tents, or back in a 32ft RV within the fenced area. Ideal for small events (25 or less), there is a nice pad overlooking the pond that can be used to set-up tables, yoga, and more. The Spring is often visited by the free range goats, alpaca, sheep, pigs, and Great Pyrenees, who are all over-friendly to people, kids, and dogs....as long as they are respected. Please do not book Shady Spring if you or your dogs are uncomfortable around farm animals. The Shady Spring has a fence along the road that helps keep animals and kids safe, however it is not fenced all the way around, only along the road. Please be careful around the pond as it is not separately fenced and is deeper than it looks. The entire Oak Grove Group Camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. This is great for large group bookings and can accommodate 150+ guests. The Oak Grove is normally bookable in 16 sites with our Oak Grove Communal Camping booking, and therefore we need to confirm its availability for a private group and block off the 16 sites, which is why we need to approve your request to book. You may book several of the Oak Grove Communal sites and cluster them together for smaller groups that do not need the entire site. Please contact us for more information. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. It is the perfect site for family or friends to gather around the fire, play games, or snooze and listen to the sounds of the rustling oaks. On a clear day, you can see the blue horizon of the Pacific Ocean, and its constant breeze further cools the air under the oak canopy. You may set up your own tents, and we also offer add-on items to make your stay with us a full glamping experience by renting additional canvas bell tents, cots, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. The Oak Grove has propane heated showers and toilet. The spacious setting allows for families with children to ride bikes and play freely, with visits from our free range farm animals for the ultimate petting zoo experience! Do you see the T-Rex face in the granite wall? T-Rex Creek is a small, private campsite on the bank of a seasonal creek under a canopy of oaks. The campsite has a private campfire and picnic area tucked between the boulders and oaks that provide plenty of shade. There is a restroom with shower at the Camp Shop, a 1-2 minute walk away. The tent pad can only fit one tent due to rocks and creek, with parking across the road. Therefore, 4 people with 1 vehicle and 1 tent max. Splitrock Farm and Retreat offers guests access to 101 acres of land, which includes beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean to the southwest and Big Bear and Mount Jacinto to the northeast. Guests have access to 6+ miles of walking and biking trails, including the Splitrock 5K (3.12 miles) that covers most of the property and all the key features and viewpoints. Feel free to explore the farm, engage with the animals, and share photos! Splitrock offers wellness activities such as morning yoga, sunset sound bath, eBike rentals, baby goat encounters, and other experiences that you can add before check-out or pay on-site at the Camp Shop. The Camp Shop has all the camping essentials Splitrock is located 5 miles from downtown Fallbrook, 14 miles from wine tasting in Temecula, and a mile east of Camp Pendleton Nature Preserve. The Santa Margarita River Trail has a large parking lot 3 miles from Splitrock on the way into Fallbrook. It's a beautiful trail along a natural river lined with trees, and you can find the locals swimming hole and tire swings where the river meets the road. Finally, the Santa Rosa Plateau offers miles of trails nearby. Keep children in sight and be mindful as there is a variety of wildlife that visit frequently, including coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, foxes, snakes, hawks, spiders, and more. This site includes: a. 22ft diameter Geodome (empty, no bed or furnishings, but can be outfitted with cots) with an open-air front bay window and skylight (so rain and fog will enter) b. plenty of flat pads for group yoga or similar c. Mother Oak Stage Amphitheatre with large granite fire pit. d. Space for up to 10 tents e. Park up to 15 cars f. Hilltop Hideout

This campground had most everything we needed. Firewood, bathrooms, showers, and water. And our site had lots of flat spots for setting up tents and for people sleeping on their vehicles. We also had incredible views from Hilltop Hideout. The downside was that there was very little shade or coverage, and it got wicked hot during the day with an unrelenting sun. Also, it was definitely not as quiet as other campgrounds. There were dogs that barked all night and I had to wear earplugs. And a campsite nearby with 70+ Boy Scouts. Also too few bathrooms for the amount of people at the campground, and they were a decently far walk away. Overall nice that was 2-wheel accessible. And the goats were very cute.

The Oak Grove Communal Camping

I have stayed in the communal area twice in the last 6 months with a large group of women and both times it was wonderful. Since my visit in June they have added two more flushing toilets to this area and a FANTASTIC outdoor shower with hot water. We hiked the campground and there is such a great variety of options for all kinds of camping. I would say if you are in a HUGE rig, you might be white knuckling it on the drive in, but once you are here, its simply glorious. Beautiful sunsets, fabulous views and the staff is FANTASTIC!! I can't wait to go back

Hilltop Hideout

Better signage to specific sites and warning for oversized rigs on specific trails. Would be better off getting rid of existing site tables/furniture, sites would certainly be more inviting without what is currently there. I will say Ben was very nice when he did come out and check on us and allowed us to camp in the random flat/safe spot we found for our trailer.

The Oak Grove Communal Camping

Went as part of a group at the Oak Grove which was set under large oak trees and was nice and shaded. Lots of land to take walks and explore. Met the goats a few times as they roam free through the property. Bathrooms with flush toilets are clean and unique hot showers also. My sty was beginning of November. Not too cold not too hot. Enjoyed the stay!

The Oak Grove Communal Camping

I love the Oak Grove area because we had a group of women about 12 and we all fit really good with our motorhomes, trailers, tents, cars. It was a beautiful grove. The whole mountain is beautiful thank you so much for making this a beautiful place for everybody to camp and have fun.

Very cool property, beautiful San Diego Mountain scenery. I walked the property several times with my dog and she got to meet some goats and a nice Great Pyrenees. Checked out some other empty camp sites that I would want to rent next time for multiple days. The hilltop one looked awesome and there another hill too structure you can drive/walk to. Definitely will come back. Nice granite on the property. Makes it feel like Joshua tree with out the drive

Rock Bottom w/ a View from the Top

Had a great weekend at Rock Bottom. Spacious site, lots of privacy, fantastic views, friendly goat herd passed through camp in the middle of the day, no bugs, clean bathroom facilities.

We had a fun trip overall! Unique rock formations and places for my young kids to play. Loved the fire pit area in the rock cave! Would have liked the bathroom to be a little closer and for there to be a working light in it, but not a huge deal. We enjoyed hiking at the Santa margarita river trail and exploring downtown Fallbrook also

Camped in the Oak Grove with our pups and it was perfect. Potable water access, clean restrooms, showers (luxury), directions were clear, and the mellow/welcoming vibes from everyone we encountered was a bonus. The goats and pups that roam the property were all friendly and I absolutely loved watching them wander through camp. Little bummed they stayed away because of our pups but glad we walked down to visit them in their area. Hoping to make it back to camp at different spots on the property and pet some goats 🤣. Definitely recommend visiting splitrock 🙌🏼

A Bright Orange VW 🍊

Sunset Oaks VW Bus

Tucked away on a dirt hill, the bright orange VW bus sits shaded against a huge boulder. It opens completely in the back for a cool breeze and paints a retro picture. There are two metal chairs besides it. I was expecting a picnic table, but that was absent. Luckily, I brought a table. The wooden platform below the bus was a really nice touch. I would have loved an outdoor rug to complete the look. I would recommend bringing your own lighting (lanterns, headlamps, lights). Overall, it's a unique, van life camping spot.

My family and I had great time at Split Rock farms. Our site was close to the goat farm and big white guard dog. The kids had a great time watching the goats and petting the friendly dog. Our site was great for a family with kids, as it was fairly large, flat, and had some large boulders that the kids loved climbing. We would definitely recommend!

The Oak Grove Communal Camping

Our second trip to split rock. This time we stayed at Oak Grove and it was great. The bathrooms are very clean and surprisingly sophisticated. Plus the outdoor shower on a rock was one of a kind amazing and unexpected. Beautiful scenery worth the extra drive from the freeway.

I had never stayed at the communal campsite but I was pleasantly surprised by the individual sites being separated from eachother. I still felt I was provately camping. You can hear your neighbors and children playing which is nice or not depending on what type of stay you would like to have. I enjoyed the community feel of the Oak Grove campsites. Some are close together and some are tucked between boulders and in the grove. I stayed at site 1 which has a firepit and is away from the main group site. Next time I will stay in the meadow/grove. Loved it overall!

Redtail Rock

Redtail Rock was great. The campsite itself is in a very wide open space with good opportunity for birdwatching and bike riding just outside of your tent. There is a convenient hose with clean water at the site. This site probably has one of the coolest firepits on the property since it is tucked just above the site in massive boulders that make it feel cavernous and private. Will definitely stay again.

All in All fun time & Secluded Site

We booked the site HORIZONS purposefully because it looked to be the most secluded site on the property and it was! We loved that, it was at the end of the sites; beautiful views from the top of the Boulder buttttt.. the area for tents was quite small. We needed space for 4 tents, one tent had to cancel leaving us with 3 and that’s really all that could fit comfortably. The fire ring was fantastic and protected from the wind, but again the area to put chairs was too small, only 2-3 fit comfortably by the fire, the others were removed enough that we got cold. The table and chairs, were nice to have but boy they were quite rundown. The bathrooms were noted that it was a 5-7min walk, during the day it’s fine, the road however is steep walking back up, at night we drove to them. They were very nice to have though and clean. We’d love to see a bathroom closer to our site, maybe at the flat viewpoint area just above our campsite. We never got a chance to interact with the camp host, or see the camp store, it was always closed. The goats did pay a few visits to our site as well, all 20ish of them, so be mindful of that! And it gets very hot during the day, there is NO shade so plan ahead for shade! Last, at no fault to splitrock, a huge airbnb nearby appeared to have a party both nights so we heard LOUD rave music 6pm-6am since the canyon projected the sound, not fun :( Overall again, we had a lovely time and would come back, and even rent one of the domes on the property!

Peaceful Valley

Peaceful Valley was a great location! The kitchen area was perfect for the prep of our meals. There was a BBQ, but we didn't use it since we brought our own. There was plenty of space for cars and tents as well as a nearby flushing toilet. There's a shade cover in the kitchen but other than that, there's not a lot of shade, so bring ez ups for comfort during the day.

Hilltop Hideout

We had an awesome experience camping with a couple of families. It was the first time camping for some of our group and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The site is private and easily accessible. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The goats came up to our site in the morning and the kids loved it!! We’re considering rebooking over the same weekend next year and making it a tradition.

Great place especially with kids

The space has a good mix of sun and shade. The deck has fake grass on it, which was a pleasant surprise. There were some big rocks and slopes to climb that were perfect for our 4 year olds. And lots of open space for them to run around and play. Goats come by in the morning to graze near the site. The baby goat petting farm is close by and great to check out if you have kids. The bathroom is not far away, but it's an uphill climb the entire way. There were more ants on the deck than expected, so keep a close eye on all your food, including dog food. The Retreat has a number of different camp sites, so we're looking forward to exploring them in the future.
