Try out camping without having to rough-it! You can rent the Honeycomb Cabin! Or swing through for a safe place to spend the night in your van, or tent, while taking advantage of San Diego and all it has to offer! So much to be seen or done within 30 miles! You can plan a visit to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, Museums, Sea World, Birch Aquarium, Safari Park, Lego Land and more! San Diego county has wine tasting, breweries, theaters and eateries of all kinds. There are several beaches, mountain lakes, and even the deserts! You can skydive, or scuba dive, go deep sea fishing, or lake fishing, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, or walking the boardwalk! SAN DIEGO CANYON CREEK is a SMALL PATCH of WOODS, NEAR a ROAD, in a NEIGHBORHOOD. In the midst of the trees we have a great view of the stars at night. Harbison Canyon is surrounded by rocky peaks, with a CREEK! We have multiple species of song birds, owls, hawks, and other wildlife that live in this Riparian Habitat. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round! It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

The Creekside tent site is partially shaded most of the day, and down below the parking and common area, right next to the running creek and flora and fauna of the riparian habitat. PLEASE NOTE: The width of the tent space is about 10 feet, and the length is about 20. You have space for a typical 4 man tent or two to three small tents. A table, chairs and umbrella will be provided. Kick back, relax, and watch the butterflies and birds. Note: Your vehicle, RV, camper, or van parking will overlook this area. The BATHROOM IS ATTACHED TO THE RESIDENCE, PAST the front door, up three concrete steps to the RIGHT. There will be a yellow porch light on at night. Flush ONLY Septic Safe toilet paper provided, NO WIPES! SAVE WATER! VERY SHORT SHOWERS are required, as there is ONLY ONE hot water TANK for the house and camp! There is a HEAT LAMP BULB in the ceiling. The outdoor kitchen, mini fridge and other amenities, including the picnic table, BBQ, and fire pit, and hammocks in the common areas are SHARED. NO FOOD is allowed in the SINK or LEFT OUT in the common areas as it will attract wildlife! The water heater under the sink can be turned on with the toggle switch on the power strip. Please turn it OFF when not in use. The solar lights turn on at dusk, or there is a remote in the left hand drawer. You may also use the rechargeable lanterns. Please turn off the lamp when you are finished. QUIET TIME is 10 pm out of RESPECT for the NEIGHBORS and fellow CAMPERS! Please attempt to arrive in the daylight if at all possible.

This site features creek side camping with a small waterfall a few steps away. A table with an umbrella, and an outdoor kitchen with full amenities, including hot water, a bbq, and propane fire pit is available for guests to share, a mini fridge and a cooler are also available. A BATHROOM IS ATTACHED TO THE HOUSE just past the front door up the 3 concrete steps. Enjoy the trees, birds, butterflies in the day, and the sounds of frogs and owls at night.

Hawks Nest Campsite

Located up on the bank, behind the outdoor kitchen, the Hawk's Nest Tent Camp Site is mostly sunny, shaded early and late afternoon. It is a long, somewhat narrow site that can accommodate two large tents UNDER 10x10 or up to 3 smaller tents (some set up with doors facing each other). The tent site is ONLY 10 -12 ft wide and about 25 feet long. The site has a small black table and two chairs available for your use, and a large hammock. This is a fairly private site with a view overlooking the cabin and creek. There is a very short trail with a slight incline to reach this site. NOTE: After crossing the shallow creek your vehicle, RV, or camper van PARKING for this site is straight ahead from the entrance along the bottom of the bank. Please park parallel to the Hawk Nest sign. The BATHROOM IS ATTACHED TO THE HOUSE, PAST the front door up the 3 concrete stairs to the RIGHT. The outdoor kitchen, BBQ, and fire pit are SHARED spaces. Please take SHORT SHOWERS- only one water heater for the whole place!

With a beautiful view of nature out every window, our cabin is located right by the creek. It is equipped with a comfy bed (with drawers!) and two side tables. WIFI, a space heater and a fan are provided. There is an outdoor private table for you to dine and rest in the shade and take in the views. The SHARED outdoor kitchen is fully equipped and available for you to use. A BATHROOM IS ATTACHED TO THE HOUSE, PAST the front door up the three concrete steps to the RIGHT. There will be a yellow porch light on each night.

Laura is absolutely amazing her campsite is absolutely beautiful she is the sweetest person ever she allowed my mom and aunt help set up and suprised me with my proposal I had no clue that was happening my amazing fiancé planned the whole thing and Laura was more than happy to let that happen on her property it was perfect. We definitely will be back again anytime we are in the San Diego area we will be camping there so peaceful and beautiful at night you can hear the creek water flowing the crickets it’s absolutely amazing all around 100/10

Laura is an excellent host! The site was very well kept, the sounds of nature were relaxing. It’s a very charming cabin. It had every amenity needed, and went above my expectations. Laura was kind to also suggest a spot nearby (Sunrise Highway, Cuyamaca Lake Pub Restaurant, and Old Mining Town) nearby that we went to after departing the cabin and it was a lovely experience. I’m very happy to have stayed here. I really enjoyed cooking here, journaling, and the comfy bed.

Intimate Campsite Under the Stars

Hawks Nest Campsite
Cute little backyard campsite with 4 close-knit sites, each with its own hammock—perfect for stargazing. We stayed at the Hawk’s Nest, which sits above the rest with great sky views (though carrying gear up the steep climb was a mini workout). Shared shower and kitchen had everything we needed—coffee maker, kettle, burner, pans, even “community potatoes.” The driveway is steep, so not ideal for compact cars, but once in, it’s cozy with plenty of nature sounds—crickets, coyotes, roosters at dawn. Earplugs are a must! Summer nights in El Cajon stay hot until late, so plan for that. Best surprise: a new country, LGBT-friendly bar called Neon Moon nearby with karaoke, cocktails, and lawn games. Laura, the host, was incredibly warm and communicative. Only 30 mins from San Diego, it’s a great spot for new campers with just the right mix of amenities and rustic vibes. Would definitely rebook!

Hawks Nest Campsite
I loved my experience camping here! Laura was so kind and helpful and took time to show me how to work the propane fire pit. I felt very safe and the instructions were easy to follow - would definitely recommend it!

Honest review. Posting stated motorhome was empty. Also received message that motorhome would be empty. Picked the waterfall site next to the motorhome. Some random guy in a out of state licensed truck drove in, parked in front of the motorhome..opebed the hood and started doing something with the engine and hr had a cigarette in his mouth. I was changing out of my jeans into my shorts in my tent and the opening of my tent was facing the motorhome. The guy all of a sudden flung open the door to the motorhone and went inside. I was so startled and quickly ducked. I texted the owner and instead of apologizing, she started rationalizing and being defensive. She said she was busy killing ants that previous campers caused ( she was cleaning up at 4pm...way past the 11 am checkout time). I ended up getting a refund and left after only being there for less than 2 hours. Also the photos are exaggerated. The sites are close to each other and each site is only a few yards from each other. The parking is so tight. The table at the waterfall site is rusted, dirty and full of bird poo. The other reviews that claim the location is peaceful or clean are full of bs or they must have low standards for accommodations. I have gone camping and state or county run campgrounds are run better. Also the fridge is always turned off or is broken because the fridge is connected to an extension cord that is turned off and only turned due to overheating per the owner. Go at your own risk

I loved the experience of camping there. It was near the creek. The kitchen was well equipped and Laura was very sweet and kind too. Love the location of the place as it was in the middle of a cute town .

Nice Place for relaxing

Laura was a great host and very friendly. We had a very comfortable stay in the cabin. The Wifi worked very well, so I had no problem doing simple tasks. The entire place had a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The bathroom was also clean and well-maintained. It was nice to have a small market store nearby. And it was a reasonable distance to drive to the national park and San Diego Town. Thank you

What a gorgeous place! My pup and I had a wonderful couple of nights at the waterfall campsite on Laura's land. It's very peaceful, in a great location close to both San Diego and the wild, with an awesome host who provided plenty of thoughtful touches to make our visit easier. You're surrounded with beautiful vegetation, with access to well maintained facilities and decently separated from the main house and other campsites. Laura was just a delight, very knowledgeable, welcoming, and great to chat with. She's just the kind of host any solo camping girl and her doggo could ask for.

Instructions were easily to follow and the host was AMAZING. Theres a little store less than 5 minutes away and a Walmart less than 15 away. The outside kitchen was an added bonus and perfect for our first time “camping”

Waterfall Campsite
This was an excellent spot for our Fourth of July weekend. We loved it. There was ample space to park. We loved that there was an outdoor kitchen with a fridge. The bathroom was super clean and very easy to access. The directions were slightly confusing, but we ended up finding it so definitely leave time to find the location and definitely go during daylight because at night you will be lost if you’re trying to find it. There is a house in front of the campgrounds that we used for the address, which made it easier. This is such a great area. We will definitely be back.

We celebrated our anniversary here and had such a wonderful time! The cabin was cozy and it was great to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of frogs, birds, and other critters. The kitchen area also had everything we needed to cook up dinner and breakfast. Laura was quick to answer any questions we had and it was a perfect distance for our drive to San Diego and La Jolla. Thank you for your hospitality Laura!

Hawks Nest Campsite
Calm and comfortable, this site is equidistant to many wonderful lakes, hikes, and adventures. It has all the amenities to make it glamping instead of camping. The host is wonderful and friendly, and offers suggestions for hikes, trips, and seeing the morning hawks or the evening bats at the camp. Dogs are welcome, and there is even a cabin if you just can’t stand a tent. Can’t wait to return.

Couldn’t ask for nicer people or a more attentive host. Comfortable, a little rustic (a plus), with a clean bathroom including a hot shower (a major plus). Pancake level upper tent spot with a view of a nearby hill. Convenient location, exact directions and excellent host communication left nothing to chance. Will return next time I’m in town and can camp.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Cabin. Pros: it’s a private space and was clean, and Laura is responsive; also the outdoor kitchen is convenient. Cons: the campsites are quite close together and also close to the road, so you hear your neighbors and the cars passing; the common areas were on the dirty side but not unusable; lastly, the ventilation in the cabin is poor so it gets quite stuffy with only a small fan in the window. We ended up not doing much there besides sleeping because of the cons. It’s about 40 mins from downtown San Diego.

I really enjoyed spending a night at Honeycomb cabin. It was very quiet and peaceful. The cabin was clean, there were plenty of amenities and the sounds of the frogs in the creek was incredible. Laura is a great host and I highly recommend recommend!

“Absolutely loved this tiny cabin! The simplicity and peaceful atmosphere made for such a relaxing stay. The bed was incredibly comfy, and the restroom was spotless and well maintained. Although you can still hear the road, it didn’t bother me at all—it almost added a cozy, tucked-away feeling. All the small, thoughtful touches really made the space feel special. Laura was so kind and welcoming. I’m truly grateful to have found this gem. Thank you again!”
