We had such a lovely stay at Barb and John’s little farm! Despite being a short drive off the main road, their property is quiet and private. The cabin is comfy, warm, and well stocked. We loved drinking coffee on the covered deck while watching the animals, and we got to hang out by the fire pit and chat with our wonderful hosts in the evening. We hope to return soon!

We loved staying at Barbara's hideaway. The place was clean, warm, amazing, secluded and straight up gorgeous. Barbara made the stay all the more special. She's really nice, attentive and always willing to help. She even let us borrow their snowshoes for our stay. We got to play with the donkeys, chill in the hot tub and explore bear valley/ Murphy's wineries. 10/10 would go back again.

Barb and Jon are both great hosts. The animals were very friendly. When we were spending out second night there, a snow storm was coming down the mountain. The lights flicked and it seemed like the power might go out. Barb and Jon set us up with a backup generator and patiently explained how to use one if the power does go out.
At the end of our stay, they also took the time and helped us clean the thick snow off of our car and put on tire cables. While we were driving up a hill, Barb helped us again by pushing our car up the hill as the tires were not gaining traction.
Luckily, we were able to get off the mountain safely. The host Barb demonstrated great hospitality and compassion again by texting us to ensure we have gotten off the mountain safely.
We appreciate what the hosts have done to make our experience a fun and safe one. Finally, We recommend staying at Barbara's Land.

Upon arrival in Murphys it was easy to find the location, Barbara was very warm showing us around, and the cabin was well prepared for our stay. You can tell when someone really cares about providing a nice place to stay, and Barbara has put a lot of work into this site. The donkeys were friendly, there's a handful of local attractions, and each night was a long deep sleep. This is a perfect place if you want to enjoy some time down to earth in nature, but still want household amenities. The only thing we wished for was another day of vacation here.

If you love animals, rustic outdoors, and a glamping cabin experience then this is a great place to unwind and escape the busy city life. Barbara is so attentive with any questions I may have and they even gave me fresh eggs from their chickens. We went in early September and in the hot weather they build two bonds where we could float or dip our feet in to cool off. The ponds also has a mini water fall for flowing water which is awesome. The cabin has a lot of the amenities for cooking at their deck and at night we were in the hot tub while star gazing at night. I had such a great time! My boyfriend and I plan on going back again because so much of the amenities are available. The Red Apple Bakery is only a 5 minute drive away and the downtown is only 10-16 minute drive away. They serve really good pies, donuts and turnovers. If you're looking for an easy weekend getaway this is a great place to stay. I highly recommend!

Such an amazing spot!
Barb and John have truly thought of everything to make your experience an incredible one. The cabin is adorable, the donkeys, goats, and chickens are the sweetest, and between the sitting pool and the hot tub, there's plenty of water features you can choose to relax in.

An incredible find - we were sad to leave and definitely plan to come back. The little home was perfectly appointed with everything you need. Bed was super super comfortable. Barbara was the perfect hostess and our kids couldn’t get enough of her farm animals. From playing with the baby goats to cooling off in the pond to relaxing in the hot tub, we easily could have stayed for a few more days and not been bored. Very close to downtown Murphy’s and walking distance to the most delicious apple donuts (The Red Apple). Highly recommend staying here!

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Barbara’s place! The house was very cozy and nice and the property is beautiful with very friendly miniature donkeys and goats. Barbara and her family were extremely welcoming and accommodating and have the perfect place to stay when exploring Murphy’s and the surrounding areas!

Our family had a wonderful time staying in Murphy’s! Barb and John were such gracious hosts that they made it feel more like we were old friends coming to stay than strangers renting on their property. The property itself is remarkable, with the cliff of the old rock quarry on one side, animals on the other, and all of Barb’s creative touches in between. We got to feed and pet the donkeys, chickens and ducks, eat farm fresh eggs, soak in the sitting pond Barb made (with a waterfall, fire pit, shade sails, and misters too!), and enjoy the cabin between outings. We also enjoyed many of the fun options Murphy’s itself has to offer, and both Barb and John are full of suggestions if asked. We will definitely be back!

This was one of the best stays my partner and I have ever had! Barbara was the most welcoming and gracious host, letting us play with the donkeys and all the animals and even inviting us to play bocce with her friends at their BBQ. The cabin itself far exceeded any expectations- the wifi worked great, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bed was so cozy! The location is great too with Murphys just up the road and Big Trees close by as well. Communication + check in/out were a breeze! I hope to be back soon!!

What a wonderful place--absolutely an outstanding trip. The care that Barb & John have put into making the property comfortable for guests shows in every detail. It really feels like being guests at a friend's cottage more than renting at a typical airbnb. Go hang out with the donkeys and goats -- they are so friendly and really do love to be pet!! -- and then sit out and cool off in the backyard pond. The cabin is comfortable and the A/C unit was great to come back to in this extremely hot summer! Bed is comfortable, living space is very nice, and the outdoor kitchen is a great amenity, especially with bug netting making it easy to grill out in the evening and enjoy the cool breeze. Really, this place couldn't get any better and we're so grateful to Barb for her warm welcome, great local recommendations, and friendly help throughout our stay. Location is also great -- a quick drive into town and all Murphys has to offer (tasting rooms, shopping, restaurants, etc) or drive up the road to enjoy the lakes and woods in the area.

My partner, dog, and I booked a last minute stay at Barbara's beautiful cabin and are so glad we did. Barbara and her husband were both so gracious and offered wonderful hospitality, while still giving us privacy. The cabin was very comfortable, with every detail thought of, and the outdoor kitchen was wonderful to cook in. Our dog got a kick out of watching the animals, and the fenced dog run was an awesome amenity. We didn't have cell service with AT&T, but the wifi was excellent and more than adequate for doing some remote work (and Barbara graciously made a phone call for us when we needed one). The location is just 15 minutes away from Calaveras Big Trees state park, which is an amazing place to see redwoods and sequoias. Would love to come back!

My son and I stayed for the weekend and had an awesome time. Barb and John were wonderful hosts and super helpful. It was such a great experience filled with everything we needed - mini adventures, relaxation and connection.
We loved the outdoor kitchen, spent a few hours with the box of legos and of course...made friends with the animals (hope the new names stick!)

We stayed for a long weekend and it was fantastic! Barbara and John were awesome hosts. The cabin was cozy and had everything we needed. Our kids (7 and 3) loved the loft and the legos. Although their most favorite thing of all (truthfully all of our favorites) were the donkeys. The sitting pond helped take the edge off an unusually hot weekend and they added extra fans and a portable AC unit in the cabin to make sure we were comfortable. The stay was truly a delight and I would highly recommend to animal and nature lovers. Lots of fun stuff to do nearby, also. White pines lake has a great beach for kids, Murphy’s park has creek running through it with picnic tables and a playground, and Big Trees is super close!

We loved our stay at the farm. The best thing was that Barb and John were friendly and helpful hosts at every turn. The cabin was beautifully appointed with a comfortable bed and impressive outdoor kitchen. The animals were the icing on the cake. They are very friendly without exception, and I enjoyed being able to walk around in the pen.
Nearby is White Pines Lake, which is great for kids and a perfect temperature. Murphys is a lovely town nearby, and there are caves we would have visited if we had had more time. All in all, this was a wonderful experience, and I would love to return here someday!

Possibly the best place I have ever stayed in on any platform - the property is just so wonderful and full of character! Our little one enjoyed the animals so much, and our pup had a great time as well! It was so relaxing dipping our feet in the pond under the shade. We played some bocce and even got farm fresh eggs. And so many outdoor activities nearby. We were pretty hot the first night - hearing this, the hosts went out and bought an air conditioning unit to make sure we were comfortable! The hosts really went above and beyond to make sure we had a nice time and everything we needed. 100% recommend and can’t wait to come back!

This place is magical. The host is a phenomenal communicator. Our group felt very welcomed before, during and after. There are so many things to do at the host location and around the town. It was a lovely excursion away from the city. The animals were a super bonus! We were able to feed the donkeys and the goats. We even communicated after, looking for an item left behind and the host was super helpful.

To any potential visitors...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GREAT PLACE!!! I cannot express how grateful I am to have come across this listing. Lets start with your host...Barbara is incredibly hospitable and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and felt welcome throughout our entire stay. She gave local recommendations, invited us to join them for activities, gave us space when we needed and took care of all the little things in between.
The cabin itself was so much better than I expected. I'll admit I love these types of accommodations, but this cabin felt unbelievably comfortable for its size. There was plenty of living space, sleeping space and the bathroom was beautiful. The outdoor kitchen was also a nice touch and the patio was great for both yoga and working.
As for the location, I'd never heard of Murphys but I'm glad to know it now. What a wonderful town full of friendly people. It doesn't feel like a typical touristy, gimmicky old town...just legitimate easygoing life that makes smaller towns so appealing. And of course, the surrounding nature was exactly what we expected: multipurpose trails, beautiful drives, various parks, river fun and more we didn't have time to discover. I'm not doing this place justice, but just do a bit of research on the area and you'll get an idea.
All in all...ZERO complaints and definitely a high recommendation for those looking to be in nature, meet some good people (and animals!) and live simply!

Barbara went above and beyond to make our stay a wonderful experience. Our hosts were warm, friendly and attentive. We got the perfect balance of feeling taken care of when any needs came up while also having more than enough space and privacy to do our own thing. The work they have done to transform their property over time is inspiring and clearly shows the amount of love and care they've put in! Hard to say which was our favorite aspect of the stay: eating delicious homegrown eggs, drinking coffee with the farm animals, cooling off in the sitting pond, cooking in the outdoor kitchen, watching the stars from the hot tub....Also: So many awesome attractions a short drive away! We enjoyed Murphy's charming business district with its restaurants and shops (and very friendly people), to Alpine Lake to Sour Grass Day Use (great spot for just chilling on rocks in the river). Would definitely return!

Barbara and her family were such great hosts for our long weekend getaway - they went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and having fun. Barbara has gone above and beyond to fix up the farm and make it fun and welcoming for guests- Can't wait to go back the next time we're in murphys!

What a delight! Barb and John are amazing hosts who value their community and want to share their little piece of paradise.
Between great hosts, four docile, sweet donkeys, two goats, two sweet dogs, a handful of chickens and one lucky duck you couldn't ask for more. Was a perfect weekend for this mom and her teenage daughter to ditch the city, spend time in the Big Trees, order take out from Murphys, have time to ourselves and get to know some kind and generous people.
