Mendocino Magic is a camping, fishing, wedding and outdoor events destination in inland Mendocino county, Northern California, just a few miles off Highway 101 in the heart of the Emerald Triangle. This unique sprawling 600-acre property is home to the largest privately-held reservoir in the North Coast region, perfect for swimming and catch &release fishing. We offer tent camping, RV & Car camping, luxe furnished tents, and cabins for your stay. Star gaze from the rolling hills of the Mendocino forest, kayak on our private Reservoir, and show off your BBQ skills with included campground amenities. Reserve your camp site early for the best availability. About half of our 2023 summer weekends are currently sold out. Such a beautiful and peaceful property. I was lucky enough to have the place to myself, but even with people there, I presume the large layout, reservoir and walking trails spread everything out nicely.

Luxe Bell Tent F with Queen Bed (Walk-In)

I enjoyed the bell tent. It was very clean and cute in the interior. I loved the land and playing at the lake. It was incredibly peaceful. I’ll definitely be back! It was hot so enjoyable to spend time at the lake mostly. The staff was friendly, hospitable and welcoming.

Beautiful area with everything we needed! The hosts customized your visit based on what you wanted-were there if you needed them, allowed for privacy, or entertained kids/ teens with s’mores on an awesome elevated fire pit, paint ball and lake fun! The outdoor showers and little extra touches of lights/ chandeliers were very romantic and it felt like it was all yours. The electric hookup area was flat and easy to back into but very exposed to the sun- definitely have an awning or artificial shade

Luxe Bell Tent D with 2 Twin Beds (Walk-In)

One of the best glamping experiences we've ever had! We stayed at a luxe tent with a real bed, so clean and cozy. The campground is huge, with trails to hike or bike, and a reservoir for kayaking, swimming or fishing. And it was also very convenient that they have a community kitchen with bbq grills. There were also hot showers, and water and soap by every bathroom. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, we really enjoyed chatting with folks while making s'mores in the evenings! We were also super lucky to be there around the time when their friend, an astrophotographer Mich, had a telescope setup up the hill, telling campers about stars, astrophotography and showing us galaxies at night. That was so cool! We saw a huge meteor that day! Highly recommend this place for stargazing, they even plan a special event in August for Perseid meteor shower!

Site 9 - Car Camping

Mendocino Magic is a wonderful place to be! Mackenzie has a well-kept land filled with many activities for the entire family! There are many camping options for all, from walk-in, yurts, car camping, long vehicle camping and more! Mackenzie and her staff greets you at the start and directs you to several campsites. Even though you ask for a number here on Hipcamp, it is first-come, first-served on what camp spot you want. Each camp location has plenty of well-kept porta potties, handwashing stations, and showers spread throughout the property. There is also a main community area where you can grill, gather by a fire pit, and a stage. You can take a hike around the property, swim/fish in the lake, or hike up to the observatory at night and look at the stars. Something to note is that most of the car camping spots towards the front of her lot are pretty close together. Just something to consider during busier seasons. Mackenzie and her staff was great and really know how to serve their customers! Thank you for the stay Mackenzie :)

Really beautiful property, the staff and other guests were super friendly and clearly love the area! I was there on a clear night and the view of the sky was incredible - the staff brought an astrophotographer in and organized a stargazing night for all the guests. Would highly recommend this campsite!

The best ever! We’ve been back to this campsite a handful of times and always love our experience. The site is clean, well shaded, and perfect for lake activities. We’ll always come back here and couldn’t recommended Cannon Ball and Mendocino Magic enough!

For a quick 1 night stay as I was passing through, this was great. The car camping sites are very close together though. Luckily for me, no one was nearby. Unfortunately didn’t have time to check out more of the land, but maybe next time!

Found hipcamp gem!

Sawmill Cabin: 1 Queen & 1 Twin (Drive-In)

I almost don’t want to share my review bc I want to keep this place a secret! It was a slice of paradise, so quiet with groomed trails and plenty of options for getting on the reservoir. Sawmill cabin was comfy, charming and perfect our needs. Mackenzie was super welcoming, we will bring more family back here soon.

Had a nice quiet night. One other camper here. They have a very nice little lake here with kayaks and canoes and honestly that makes this the reason to stay here. Grounds are well kept, host was super welcoming and nice and facilities were clean and nice. Recommend

Lakeside Group Camp Site (Hike-In)

Hosts were hospitable and helpful. I admire what Mackenzie is doing and hope she succeeds. The campsite I rented is poor value for the money. I was under the impression that we would have two kayaks by the lake near us to use and found out that was not the case when I arrived. They do have lots of kayaks for general use but we would have had to walk a ways in the extreme heat. It would have been a better value to stay at a smaller campsite on the property. There’s no trash disposal. Lakeside Camp is a bit of a hike to get to the parking lot. The upside is that it is pretty quiet at night and you can see lots of stars. Hosts will drive up iced water jugs for free and you can buy propane and ice. Be aware that there are lots of wasps in July so bring a screen room, swatter or other devices to keep them from swarming your food. There are two porta potties near Lakeside camp so you could use one for number 1 and the other for number 2. Hikers passing by can use them too, but we didn’t get too many people passing by. It was quiet enough that you could even change outside your tent.

Mendo Magic was an incredible spot. Great communication from the host Mackenzie. The site itself was ideal, with a nice little table and close to a tee for shade. We loved canoeing around the lake in the evening, and the path around the lake makes for a nice running trail. Outdoor shower was clean and great. We did not use the grills but the outdoor kitchen area looked well set up too.

Loved the camping site and the staff were all so so great! Stayed 2 nights with my husband and dog, the area was clean, showers were such a great feature, we were lucky to have really nice neighbours as well and the reservoir looked so so inviting with the kayaks provided - we didn’t use it but definitely on the list for next time. Mackenzie was super welcoming and would check on us periodically, the whole spot felt super safe - especially if you’re a solo female traveler.

Cannonball Group Camp Site (Hike-In)

What an incredible place to stay and with such amazing hosts we could not recommend this place enough! The entire property is gorgeous but we felt so lucky to snag cannonball camp for the fourth, it was so peaceful to wake up to the sunrise on the lake and to spend the whole day enjoying the water - there were so many kayaks available but we highly recommend bringing some floaties as well! There were not too many bugs and the porta pottys were easily accessible and clean. Although there are other campers on the lake during the day the site still felt quite private and secluded. Mackenzie and team were so helpful especially as we stayed during a big heat wave, as they checked in on us often to make sure we had plenty of water and anything else when needed. We will absolutely be coming back in the future!

RV3) RV Back-In Site with Electric

Mendocino Magic is indeed "magical." We camped in our 24 foot travel trailer at one of the six RV sites. We had electric hookup, nothing else, so we used the camp's port a potties and outdoor shower. We were attending a music festival, so weren't around during the days, but generally the camp was quiet. We hiked up to the reservoir and up the road leading to the star gazing site. We will be back!

Camper's Orchard Group Camp Site (Drive-In & ADA)

Mendocino Magic was Magical! The location was easy to get to, plenty of shade to escape the sun, and well maintained roads. We were initially bummed about the no fires rule, but the group fire on Friday and Saturday night was awesome! Convenient getaway to see the stars that are drowned out by the city lights not far away. The lake was a bit of a hike from the campsite, and we were in the middle at Campers Orchard. Not a deal breaker, but definitely not expected initially. Lake was clean, plenty of canoes and kayaks, shady areas to relax on the shore, and toilets so you didn't have to walk up and down the hill. Mackenzie and her crew made frequent trips around camp, so if you needed anything, they were available. Toilets are porta pottys, but as someone who works on construction jobsites for a living, the toilets at Mendocino Magic were clean, well kept, and had legit 2 ply, nice toilet paper. Full hand washing stations are available at each toilet location and hand sanitizer if thats your jam. There was a slight issue with two other camps playing loud music, but Mackenzie handled it, communicated with us frequently, and informed us they will not be coming back because that is not the vibe they want there. Mackenzie was communicative and kind, as was her staff. We will definitely be planning another group trip for our "softball" team in the future!

The campsite was enjoyable, although it felt a bit cramped even for just two tents. You are in close proximity to others and can hear everything, including snoring. It was clean, but I wish the toilets were better maintained. The smell outside of them was quite unpleasant, which wasn't a deal breaker for us since we understand it's camping. However, given the higher price, we expected better facilities. The main issue for us was the noise level. We understand that people like to party, and we enjoy having fun too, but quiet hours are usually by 10 PM. The first night was terrible, with loud music playing until 2 AM, which kept me up. The second night, I spoke with one of the hosts, who said they had already told the group to quiet down by 10 PM. While the music was not as loud as the previous night, it still continued until midnight. We're not trying to be party poopers, but some of us go camping to escape noise. This was like a full-on rave, with people running around naked during the day. It's unfortunate because aside from the toilets, we actually liked the site. However, due to our overall experience, we will most likely not return.

This place is so beautiful and welcoming!! The Campers Orchard was the perfect spot for our group of 9 & doggos :) The communal campfire on the weekends is tons of fun, also!! Mackenzie and staff were approachable, accommodating, and extremely kind. We will definitely return to have more fun in the Magic!

I loved camping here, although we didnt get the site that we booked the entire place is very walkable! We walked to the reservoir and used the free kayaks and we had the entire reservoir to ourselves! Super nice spot, the hosts we met were all super sweet!! I would camp here again :)

The spacious stage house is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors! Used it as a place for a bachelor party and there’s plenty of activities such as hiking, fishing, and star gazing. Plenty of board games to keep you occupied at night. 10/10 recommend thanks mackenzie! it’s tradition to fall off a canoe into the reservoir btw
