Nestled atop a ridge, this campsite offers breathtaking views of sunsets, sunrises, and a starlit night sky, making it a perfect base for exploring the Lost Coast. The hosts, Blu and Alan, receive high praise for their welcoming and helpful nature, ensuring guests feel at home with clean facilities and thoughtful amenities. While the location is remote, it's just a short detour from Shelter Cove, providing a peaceful retreat without the hustle of crowded campgrounds. Guests appreciate the comfort of cots in spacious tents, with additional perks like a communal kitchen and hot showers adding to the ease of the stay.
It was a great camping experience. The place is on top of a hill and we got the whole place to ourselves. We started a camp fire, watched sunset and sunrise on top of the hill, and the stargazing was amazing. Would def come back again.
Great (and easy!) place to camp with nice tents furnished with cots, incredible views and nice amenities! The camp host (Alan) was very kind and helpful. We had our own stove but the small kitchen on the premises was a bonus. Our dogs got along well with the camp dog. It was hot during the day but there is shade on the property including hammocks in a treed area.
We camped here the night before taking the shuttle to Mattole Beach. Host Alan was great and explained everything. We cooked dinner in the kitchen facilities and took showers as well. Definitely a great glamping experience.
Everything was great. Kitchen had everything I needed. Host was super flexible. Showers and bathrooms clean. Best thing is the views. Will stay there again.
We wanted the certainty of a reservation (vs. walk-up campground) and were trying to decide whether to stay here or at the campground on the coast in Shelter Cove. After seeing both, we are SO glad we chose to stay here. The sunset/sunrise views are incredible and completely different than anything we saw in town or on our lost coast backpacking trip. The grounds are unique and remote, not loud and crowded like the tent/trailer campground in town. It's only a few minutes detour from the main road into Shelter Cove. There is a long dirt/gravel driveway, but it's in great condition and we had no trouble in our rental corolla. Blu (and the sweet camp dog!) met us there and made sure we knew about the potable water, hot showers, full kitchen and flush toilets. It was all of our first times sleeping in a yurt, which was impeccably clean. The cots were comfortable enough to sleep on without a sleeping pad, but bring one if it's cold weather.
Great option for spending the night prior to or after your Lost Coast hike. The host welcomed us in person and the boat was super cool and comfortable for the night. The instructions provided to arrive were accurate and very helpful. Host was responsive.
Blu was super accommodating and helpful, even with our late arrival! Stayed one night before hiking LCT, and it was amazing to have an easy and comfortable site to stay at beforehand.
Such an epic HipCamp! Highly recommend, it's the coolest spot. Amazing views, super unique place, access to a ton of amenities - I could not have asked for more. And LOVED THE CAMP DOG! haha. Alan is the best, and I am so stoked we got to meet him - THANK YOU ALLEN!
The campsite was so cute and had great amenities. The tents were clean and well maintained. Some of the best star gazing I’ve seen in Northern California ever.
Our party love the Hipcamp at Shelter Cove. It is on the top of the mountain and the view was spectacula. Management team was very helpful and friendly. We would stay again if we ever hike the Lost Coast Trail again.
We hiked the Lost Coast Trail and stayed at Sinkyone Camp the night before our departure. The accommodations were great. Cots were comfortable. The shower house and flush toilet were much appreciated.
The area is located at the top of the mountain with a great view of the sky. I saw the Milky Way for the first time. I'm 61 years old. It's something I will always remember.
As the name implies, this was a great base camp before our Lost Coast hike. The bell tents were perfect for getting our gear sorted. Plus it was nice to start the adventure on a cot rather than the ground. The views were stunning! There’s nothing like waking to a mountain sunrise. You feel like you’re a million miles away. Alan was an excellent camp host. He kept on communication with us before we arrived to ensure he was around to show us the ropes. Everything is off-grid, so there were a few things to learn. He made sure we had a nice fire later in the evening which was the perfect end to our day. Blu’s camp dog Ruka did her rounds to “run off the bears and mountain lions” according to Alan, but she had plenty of time for scratches and belly rubs. Things to note, there isn’t a lot of shade during the day, and the wind gets quite chilly and sometimes fierce at night. Definitely recommend layers! The directions weren’t terribly hard to follow, though GPS won’t get you all the way, so definitely screenshot or download their written directions beforehand. We would absolutely stay here again!
Allan and Blu were an amazing host. Very friendly. Allan was in touch even before we were their guest. Allan showed us around as we arrived on our motorcycles and even helped us with extra sleeping bags as it was cold and windy. We enjoyed sharing stories with him over our morning coffee. This place is really a hidden gem. The views are stunning
Lost Coast Basecamp was the perfect place to start our Lost Coast adventure! It’s about 25 minutes from Black Sands Beach where the shuttle picks up. Alan greeted us at the site and gave us a tour and orientation to the space. He was very accommodating and helped us feel right at home! All of the facilities at basecamp were super clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and the cots in the bell tents were comfortable! We wished we could have stayed for longer. And the view is unbelievable!
Loved camping at the lost coast basecamp before and after our lost coast hike. The camp host Alan was very great and very attentive and gave us a great orientation and answered all our questions about the camp and the area. The tents are great and tall enough to stand in and cots are comfortable. The views are spectacular on top of the mountain and we had clear sky’s and warm sun even when it was foggy and damp at the coast. We had a fire each night, made s’mores and made good use of the kitchen for our dinner meals. I would stay there again.
This was a perfect spot before we did the Lost Coast Trail. Pretty epic sunrise/sunset. The tent is close to the other tents, but no problems on that front or with the shared kitchen/bathroom. Alan was an awesome host!
I had a fantastic stay at lost coast basecamp! The host Alan was incredibly friendly and welcoming — we had some great conversations during our visit. The site itself exceeded my expectations. It’s well-equipped with a clean bathroom, hot shower, and a full kitchen, I couldn’t have asked for more. I’ll definitely be back!
As my friends and I prepped for the lost coast we knew we wanted a nice meal and a good sleep. This is the place. A great camp to hang, cook, clean yourself and rest up for any adventure. This doesn't even mention one of the best views you can get. Truly a fun and remarkable place to camp.
Such a beautiful and well tended space! It was perfect for our needs. Great kitchen, complete with pots and pans, dishes etc. Clean bathrooms, flushing toilets and showers. Stunning view.
We loved the beautiful views as you're on top of a ridge. The night sky was incredible. Bring chairs for sitting out. There are 4 sites but it was just us when we were there. There's a kitchen cabin with cookware, showers available. You'll be staying in a large canvas tents which were very clean with 4 basic cots but they look quite new. Friendly host. Make sure you get there in the daylight. Road up to the top of the ridge is pretty steep.
Amazing views of the Milky way and the sunrise, friendly host. Clean kitchen, showers and flush toilets. The tents were setup well the experience was pleasant!
