Welcome to adventure in far north Siskiyou County! Firebird Ridge presents a fantastic secluded camp station in a beautiful semi-wild setting with huge open sky views over 50 miles of the Klamath River canyon and Siskiyou Crest. Just 10 minutes off the freeway, a variety of simple thoughtfully laid out sites afford comfy car and tent camping or smaller RVs and vans, with ample privacy. At an elevation just under 3000 feet, the Ridge gets lots of sun, with cold nights and hot days in winter and summer respectively. This is a drier climate between May - October meaning some risk of smoke impacts from area forests, although the mountainside location generally offers clean fresh air with stunning sunsets and excellent stargazing. Best to arrive in daylight to orient and take in the scene! Count on fair to good cell service, limited central wifi and power. The land contains over a mile of trails with vistas, rock features, gnarly old "bonsai" oak trees, native plants and wildflowers. Your stay here directly supports ongoing conservation, watershed protection and fire mitigation work around the site, inquire if curious! Wildlife is prolific, mostly the friendly sort however visitors should be mindful to avoid unwelcome encounters, and any small children or pets kept under close watch. Your host can address questions or concerns. The property is not a park, playground, or big backyard, in fact probably not much like anyplace you've been...prepare for a novel experience! Come as a guest, not a customer, and find yourself at home in the wild. Activity and development on site are minimized to enhance natural habitat and ambience. Guests are advised to minimize disturbance of other occupants and lifeforms--it's fine to have fun and make some intermittent noise but disruptive or damaging behavior will be curtailed. Non-disruptive youth visitors welcome with reasonable supervision. This location is not set up (yet) for people with mobility challenges, or people with no prior wilderness camping experience. Small to medium size (5-15p) groups may combine sites and enjoy some shared space and amenities, please inquire.

The Alcove tent site sits aloft in seclusion just a short walk (about 50 meters) up the ridge from main parking, and has room for one smaller (2-3 person) tent ensconced amid panoramic views. A quiet and private space to spend the night with the stars...or enjoy a longer minimalist personal wilderness retreat?! Small fire pit nearby, walk to nearby group cook space, outhouse, and outdoor lounge. Trails meander outward to several vistas and features to explore. **This is an affordable option for solo travelers, and goes up in cost per occupant beyond that. If you are a group of two or more, please consider other available sites first!

Absolutely beautiful location! Ben was a kind host and we enjoyed chatting for him for a bit about the area. Definitely the perfect spot to camp on our way back to Portland from San Francisco. A true gem!

We had the pleasure of camping at Firebird Ridge for six nights. The property is off the beaten path and very private. It’s beautiful country with hiking trails a small pond and a great host (Ben) .we really enjoyed our stay - you should check it out.

I loved camping on Ben's land! The view was incredible. The site was easy and flat. The trails were cool to explore with my dog. The stars were beautiful. The treehouse-like outhouse was a unique treat. It's off I-5 half way from Portland to San Francisco, so it's a perfect place to break up the ride. It's way up in the hills, a world apart.

This place is really beautiful and quiet. Gorgeous views all around with nice little trails meandering along the property. Ben was a great host! He greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the property. I highly recommend this place for a peaceful camping experience!

Pristine, gorgeous sites in the high desert. Ben's artistic enhancements and rock work blend seamlessly with the wild nature of the place. I loved the solar shower. Like his other work it is simple, functional, and fits the austere beauty of the place. Ben is looking for community, this would be a fantastic place for an immersive experience, a longer stay. What to do in remote Siskiyou County? We were visiting on a tour to learn about salmon restoration and the Klamath Dams Out projects at Copco. Highly recommended and educational. The town of Hornbrook has a single eatery, with excellent pizza.

Ben’s land was so beautiful and peaceful. It was a great place to get away and slow down. There were a lot of subtle details that shows he put a lot of care into making sure it’s a great experience. 10/10 will absolutely come back.

This was such a sweet spot! Very intentionally designed by Ben, who was also so very friendly and a delight to chat with about the history of the land, area, and his plans for it. The camping spots were spaced well enough away from each other to feel private, and it was so nice to have the composting toilet (which was constructed beautifully, as well!). I got there later in the evening but still had time to walk up one of the trails to a beautiful old white oak. And then the sky was full of stars above my tent, it was wonderful. It will definitely be a go-to spot when I travel through the area again and I highly recommend it to others!

This property is really special. Great views of the surrounding hills, very serene and peaceful, and Ben was a pleasure to meet. He's done some very cool wood and stone work throughout the property which makes the site feel unique. I'd highly recommend staying if you are in the area.

This property is delightful and Ben's approach to hosting is thoughtful and intentional. The whole experience is rustic, but subtle design choices show that it is more than that - this whole place has a Goldsworthy-inspired feel where nature is being clearly shaped by a careful hand.

The land on its own is completely spectacular but seeing how Ben has woven these creative moments into the space was undeniably my favorite part. He is such a gem. Also gotta say the outhouse is a work of art. I will certainly be back :~)

I highly recommend this site and camp! Ben went above and beyond to help us plan our hikes, met us starting a fire- the whole camp area is very clean and well maintained. The Roost is super cute inside and comfortable- there are interesting rock formations and creations on the property. Beautiful views! Probably the most unique and attractive toilet setup I’ve ever seen outdoors. I appreciate that Ben has worked to make this camp both private and also communal at the same time with individual and group fire pit options. It felt very safe. I would love to come back!

Ben’s property is breathtaking. He is very thoughtful and kind! It’s always nice to have good company especially when you’re traveling. He helped me get a small fire going and offered great conversation. There are big things in the works here and my dog and I really enjoyed our stay. We can’t wait to come back and do more exploring. I wish we had more than one night here. Thank you Ben for sharing your space with me!

What a beautiful place!! I stayed two times - once on the way to visit family (Portland to Bay area) and then again on the way home. It is the PERFECT halfway mark between these two West Coast cities for anyone not wanting to drive the full 10-11 hours in one day. The first time I was blessed with more temperate weather, and I spent time exploring the land both in the evening I arrived and much of the following morning. Ben has created little walkways all over the property to various vistas and sitting places, and he decorates the paths with standing rock art! It was so fun to turn a corner and see two or three big rocks sitting impossibly on top of each other! Up above the tent site there is a pond that delights, complete with ducks and geese, and I saw several deer on that first morning. Perhaps my favorite part is the outhouse! Beautiful to look at with its weathered boards and artsy branch work, it is open to the valley!! Yes, it's a composting toilet, but in open air there is no foul scent nor anyone to see you.... just a glorious vista of the Klamath River valley below! I did my business while the sun rose red to the east and birds serenaded me. It was sublime, and I was sad to leave. On the way home, a mere week later, the temps were in the high 90s, and the stay was not as fun. Luckily, Ben texted me to advise me to arrive later in the day to avoid the hottest time of day (thank you again, Ben!!), so no misery for me! Great site, great host, & I will return!

Peaceful picturesque spot away from it all. For a 10 min detour from the I-5, I was transported to a tranquil thoughtful campground overlooking the valley. An evening hike to a swimming pond. Great campsite and fire pit. Sunset and a huge night sky full of stars. Definitely recommend!

This is a beautiful site!! Ben was very helpful when we arrived with a wood fire pit ready to start. Very peaceful with amazing stars and sunrise. It’s on the top of a mountain so lots of gravel uphill to get there. But we easily made it with our Subaru and teardrop trailer. It’s worth the trek!
