About Welcome to DragonflyHill Desert Farm & Wildlife Habitat where you can experience desert magic, starry skies, and natural mineral water from our private well. Remote enough for a quiet retreat yet easy to get to and only a short drive to amenities and outdoor adventures! Please review our rules and read our entire listing description prior to requesting to stay here, to assure we’re the right space for you. Copies of our rules, registration documents, liability waiver and amenities are provided in our photos. Guests must agree to adhere to our rules and honor our cancellation policy to book with us. If you have any questions, please make an inquiry and we will get back to you very quickly. We really do love this work. LOCATION: We are located one mile down a well maintained and navigable dirt road, 20 minutes to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert, and 15 minutes to the 10 freeway. We're near the Cabazon outlets, 2 hours to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, mountain areas, and beaches. Nearby there are local wildlife preserves, hiking and outdoor activities. We are 45 minutes to Joshua Tree and a half hour to Coachella. We truly are in the middle of nowhere and the center of everything. For folks traveling in winter, we’re considerably warmer than Joshua Tree and the High Desert. In summer we are cooler than Palm Springs. Immediate neighbors are small farmers and ranchers. Local spas and resorts are available for day use and access to their pools and ponds for as little as $10 a day ($5 seniors). We can provide space for events and entertainment for a small fee. ARRIVAL: Upon approving your reservation we'll send you a welcome message with information we need prior to your arrival to process your reservation, prepare for your arrival and provide you with check in information and accurate directions as gps apps to our location are often wrong. Please answer that initial email as soon as possible. We'll follow up with check in information and driving directions. Once in the gate, stay on the driveway and meet us on the patio with the blue shade sails. We will provide you with an approximately 15 minute orientation and tour, register you, check identification and show you to your campsite. Guests are required to fill out a liability waiver and a simple registration form. (See photos for copies of these forms.) OUR SPACE: Our land is 130 feet wide by an eighth of a mile deep in a residential neighborhood with lots 2.5-10 acres. We can see and hear our neighbors. We maintain a very quiet space but occasionally our neighbors have their own activities and events. Let us know if the neighborhood gets too noisy and we'll try to mitigate those situations. We can also provide free earplugs for those very rare occasions. Guests wanting a totally isolated experience may want to book elsewhere. DragonflyHill Desert Farm is a working farm in a wilderness area. Guests should check weather forecasts prior to arrival and assure that they have the right equipment. We have a moderate cancellation policy that allows guests to cancel 3 days prior to their arrival date to receive a refund. This allows enough time to check weather reports. There are occasional heavy rains and frequent high winds. It can get very hot in summer and reach freezing temperatures in winter. Despite our proximity to the freeway and nearby cities, and our location in a residential neighborhood, this is very much a wilderness area. DragonflyHill is not responsible for the weather. We are not a resort. Expect dry plants and patches during summer and into the fall. As a farm, we may be a bit more rustic than your typical farm to allow for shelter for local wildlife. Our cultivation methods encourage biodiversity and though we are growing food, many of our crops resemble landscaping or natural habitat rather than garden patches. Currently we have habitat viewing areas, an herb garden, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, a sheltered social distancing patio, an outdoor kitchen, meditation gardens, our (seasonal) mineral pool, community library, game boards and toys, and a tree bath. Plant varieties, wildlife and presentation may vary by season. Our farm specializes in herbs, fruit trees, desert and native plants, and edible flowers. We also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors. We cultivate community and share what we grow with our neighbors and our guests. Guests have shared access to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the orchards, gardens, patios, and grounds of the Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat, and (for safety reasons) limited access to the pool pond and spa -both unheated. The pool pond is filled with local mineral water from our own well. The pool pond is cleaned regularly & is chlorinated. The pool pond is not cleaned daily and is shared with wildlife. including bees and birds who drink water pool side. Debris from high winds and wildlife may contribute to the pool pond environment. Currently neither the pool pond nor the spa is heated. We also have wheelchair accessible hot water outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible porta potties. The pool area is accessible to guests year round but the pool itself is winterized and unavailable from mid October through mid to late April. We work hard to keep the home well maintained & clean; we're vigilant & do due diligence with professional quarterly visits from Truly Nolen 4 Season Pest Prevention (a green company.) We doubt you'll see any unwanted critters inside or near the house or other structures during your stay, but if you do, please advise us & we will promptly address the situation. DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat is in a remote area of the desert with lots of wildlife. To help us keep wildlife OUT of the house and campsites, please keep food out of reach of critters & clean up after every meal. We affirmatively welcome children, but as this is a working farm in a wilderness area, parents will need to be vigilant of their child's safety and activity while here. We are constantly adding activities and features for children and adults. We are child friendly and we are a good location for groups. (Just message us with your details and we can tailor your stay to meet your needs.) We have 1 cat and 1 service dog. Other guests may have pets or assistance animals. Neighbors have chickens, farm animals and pets. There are a few feral cats in the vicinity as well as a variety of desert wildlife. At night you can hear the coyotes though we’ve never seen them or their tracks on our land. Common sightings of road runners, rabbits, hares, lizards, snakes, hawks, doves, desert wrens, migrating ducks (in the Spring), scorpions, mantises, crickets, mockingbirds, insects and spiders. WHO WE ARE: DragonflyHill is a community of artisans, activists, craftspeople and farmers, working together to cultivate community, develop methodologies for living and working together in ever increasing paradigms of social justice and sustainability. We are a safe and sober space that is disability and LGBTQIA affirmative, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-imperialist and de-colonialist, because anything else is just a bandaid. Core values of our work include attention to detail, fine craftwork and cultivating community. Some members of the Dragonfly Team live on the premises at all times and will be here for the duration of your stay. The rest of the team are community members. All Team members work at DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat in different capacities, in cooperation and collaboration with each other. It should be noted that we are not a museum community and our collective is not on display. Only 2-3 members of the community are currently responsible for hosting guests. Community members are autonomous and, much of our community functions virtually. There are also occasional community events at the farm, including farming, though many activities are just coming back after the pandemic. We hope to offer activities in the Fall. All activities will continue to be held outdoors and social distancing is required. We speak: English and Spanish. We can communicate somewhat in French, Italian and Portuguese. DRAGONFLYHILL CONSEIRGE We love to hear about your travels and share our knowledge of our community and Southern California with our guests. Our library, located on the Blue Patio, offers children’s books, local history including indigenous history, farming and gardening, wildlife guides, hiking trails, entertainment and tourist attractions. We can recommend activities on and off site including places to go with children, local hiking, museums, restaurants and shopping. In addition to campsites, for additional fees, we offer reiki, a private jacuzzi hot water mineral bath, farm tours, firewood, tutoring, tax preparation, vehicle storage, event and space rental, and classes. Camp in your own tent, RV or camper under the starlit desert sky on our beautiful desert farm and wildlife habitat. While we have clearly marked campsites, there are no designated/assigned spaces in our listing on the Hipcamp platform. In this way we can tailor your location to your needs. (Do you want to be near bathrooms or away from other campers? Do you want to be near the main house? What type of space does your trailer need? Will you need electricity? etc). Spaces are adjacent to other spaces and approximately 40 feet wide. We are developing autonomous desert landscape gardens in each space and installing more windbreaks, shelters and privacy panels. Some spaces have fire pits, though during high winds and dry seasons, campfires are not allowed. Each campsite has its own water hook up. All sites have a water spigot with potable mineral water from our well and a lead free drinking hose. We do not offer black water waste disposal. Most sites have electricity options (for an additional fee), Most sites have tables. Chairs are available upon request. (They get blown away by the wind, otherwise.) Please have your profile completed with full verification and payment method with Hipcamp. Message us via the Hipcamp platform with an introductory inquiry and communicate with us throughout your trip planning process from reservation to departure. For an extra fee we can offer a 15/20amp hookup subject to availability. For an additional fee, pets are allowed at campsites. This is a desert farm & wildlife habitat in a rustic environment. Tent campers should be experienced campers with adequate equipment for windy, cold or hot conditions. Sites have little or no shade. Check in is any time after 4 PM on the day of your reservation. We require you provide us with a 2 hour window so we can be sure to be here when you arrive, register you, check ID and show you to your site. (If there are changes during your travels, just keep us posted.) Guest check out time is 12 noon; we need a few hours to clean & prepare the space between guests so if you need a much earlier check in, make your reservation to include the night before. Our cancellation policy is firm. Guests may cancel up to 3 days prior to check in. This provides guests with enough time to check the weather while giving us enough time to prepare and anticipate guests' needs. Guests are encouraged to take out travelers’ insurance in the case that their trip is interrupted, needs to be canceled shortly before the date of arrival or if weather may interfere with your plans. We also recommend that all guests/lodgers have either homeowners or renters insurance in case of a loss during their stay. Prices may vary by day & season. We do not offer discounts beyond what is stated in the price of the site, on the indicated date, with the exception of some online promotions. What a beautiful place. The location is a quiet, very rural area but within an easy drive to cafes, grocery stores, Palm Springs, and hiking trails. The land is lovely, with a big eucalyptus tree welcoming you onto the property and singing in the wind. (By the way, the wind is no joke -- I recommend bringing a sturdy tent!) There are so many resources available to campers that I truly felt like a guest in a home. Seriously, the outdoor kitchen is insanely well-stocked (pots, pans, plates, spices, ziploc bags, even a French press!) and being able to cook on a propane grill made life so easy. Access to a mini-fridge, microwave, and hot water kettle spoiled me. The outdoor shower was warm, private, and comfortable. I didn't use the pool but it looked gorgeous. The hosts were very responsive, gracious, and accommodating. Communication is extensive and clear, something satisfying for a type A type like me. There is a hum of life, love, and community that I enjoyed settling into for a few days, and I can't recommend this place enough.

Andy and Emma have a beautiful home and are very welcoming. It is obvious they have been hosting guests for years. They have everything we needed to cook, eat, wash up, save leftovers, and microwave them the next day. Their outdoor shower has better water pressure than my shower at home. The pool looks amazing but weather didn't permit us to make use of it. It was very windy for our stay, but we had a great spot tucked in behind two corners of a fence and under a big tree. So we got to listen to wind all night, but not a flappity tent. There are a lot of rules, so read them carefully to make sure these are hosts you are compatible with. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely love to stay there again, but definitely during good pool weather.

Beautiful camp ground and great people! Hosts are super friendly and helpful. The campsite was very cute and spacious. The property was so nice!! Loved the pool. Even all the other guests were super nice and friendly. Will definitely go back.

We had a pretty great experience. The hosts were really nice and clear about any rules. My 3 kids loved the pool. We 100% underestimated the wind though, which obviously no one can predict. We'll be back in October when it's not so windy. 😊

Without a doubt the nicest Hip-camping experience I have ever had. Andy & Emma (and the cat and the chihuahua) made me feel so comfortable that I was truly able to relax. They treat you like a guest they were actually waiting for while respecting your space. Definitely a safe harbor for the weary and the diverse. Each site is a unique space with interesting art and natural features. It's a desert so it can get hot. Bring a shade umbrella if you have one. If you don't, no worries. The swimming pool is just as magical as it looks in the photos. Don't leave without getting in there. The cooking situation is generous and convenient. The outdoor showers are private and well shielded from the wind. The tankless water heaters put out hot water immediately. The spigots offer potable, natural mineral water. I can't say enough positive things about this place. Did I say there's Trader Joe's within 30 minutes? If you appreciate the California desert and all of its wild variability, stay at DragonflyHill. I am already looking for an opportunity to get back there.

Extended stays: Living the Van Life
I had a great time at DragonflyHill camp. I have camped here before and when I planned a trip to the area to catch a couple of concerts I thought of DragonflyHill as the place to camp and relax between Shows. The campsite had plenty of room for my gear including a large tent. The toilets are clean and serviced often as are the showers. Speaking of the shower, the outdoor shower is my favorite luxury here. Gaining access on arrival is straight forward and easy, be sure to read the materials Emma sends out to you, most questions are answered regarding directions and gate instructions in the documentation. Noise is not a real problem, no train or highway noise. Overall my visit was all I could want and will be returning again.

I really enjoyed my stay at DragonflyHill! It is conveniently located to downtown Palm Springs (~30 minutes) and Joshua Tree (~50 minutes). I had a great campsite with a table and chairs and fire pit (which I did not use but you can fill out a free permit). While I didn't use the pool, Andy was a wonderful host and offered to join me in the pool area if I was wanting to use it. It is extremely windy there (as they state repeatedly in the rules), so make sure you weigh down your tent with rocks and stakes! Also, the porta potty isn't emptied until Tuesday, so if you would prefer to use a cleaner/ nicer smelling toilet, arrive on a Tuesday evening. Sunset from the front yard is absolutely beautiful! Would definitely stay here again!

This is a lovely property located close to Palm Springs. My wife and I stayed for three nights in our pop-top camper van. We had a choice of several nice spots and chose a private back-in spot. Showers and toilet are clean and comfortable with great hot water pressure. Emma and Andy were wonderful hosts. We chose this location due to its proximity to the trailhead for the Cactus to Clouds hike ending at the summit of San Jacinto peak. The property is also close to Joshua Tree National Park We had no problem locating Dragonfly Hill using our Apple Maps.

Our hosts made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. We were greeted with a thorough orientation of their wonderful property, and truly enjoyed our stay. From our quiet starry evenings, to our morning coffee in the garden surrounded by hummingbirds, Dragonflyhill was a lovely place to camp.

This was our second time staying here, and it is always a pleasure! The check in is smooth, the hosts seem to always available for anything you need. The hosts are very inclusive of people of all backgrounds, lifestyles, and needs. The outdoor kitchen is fully stocked. The outdoor showers are warm with great water pressure. Overall, the land is serene with lots of great plants everywhere. The views from the kitchen are of beautiful snow capped mountains. It is a great place to relax and unwind!

Lovely people, working hard to make it a special place. Convenience of bathrooms and showers since I had to conserve water (so I didn’t fill up my gray tank) Lots of spots to sit, enjoy the sunshine.

Dragonflyhill is so special. It is a warmly cultivated, thoughtfully arranged space. From the moment I saw the dragonfly banner on the gate, I knew I was home. I stayed for a month. Emma and Andy were very helpful with a few things that came up. They are very responsive hosts. And while there where several other campers who came and went during my time, I felt like I had enough space and privacy. The outdoor shower & kitchen were such a treat!

It was very serene and very unique visually. A most unique place to camp. Andy was the best! Warning though: you have to go through a few loops to stay there: Dog Vaccination required. ALso, you have to log in and watch a fireplace video to actually make a fire. Weird. Otherwise, I'd recommend it to everyone.

Saved our tents from the wind

Cute little spot to tent camp. We had some really blustery winds hit in the middle of the day while we where away at a local hot spring. Their camping site had fences around the camping spot which protected our tents from the wind and Emma was even kind enough to go and check that our tents stayed staked until we could return. Really good hosts and I am grateful for their hospitality.

Our hosts were friendly and shared helpful information about things to do in the area. The camping space was nicely shaded and peaceful. The outdoor shower provided plenty of hot water and privacy.
