About Welcome to DragonflyHill Desert Farm & Wildlife Habitat where you can experience desert magic, starry skies, and natural mineral water from our private well. Remote enough for a quiet retreat yet easy to get to and only a short drive to amenities and outdoor adventures! Please review our rules and read our entire listing description prior to requesting to stay here, to assure we’re the right space for you. Copies of our rules, registration documents, liability waiver and amenities are provided in our photos. Guests must agree to adhere to our rules and honor our cancellation policy to book with us. If you have any questions, please make an inquiry and we will get back to you very quickly. We really do love this work. LOCATION: We are located one mile down a well maintained and navigable dirt road, 20 minutes to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert, and 15 minutes to the 10 freeway. We're near the Cabazon outlets, 2 hours to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, mountain areas, and beaches. Nearby there are local wildlife preserves, hiking and outdoor activities. We are 45 minutes to Joshua Tree and a half hour to Coachella. We truly are in the middle of nowhere and the center of everything. For folks traveling in winter, we’re considerably warmer than Joshua Tree and the High Desert. In summer we are cooler than Palm Springs. Immediate neighbors are small farmers and ranchers. Local spas and resorts are available for day use and access to their pools and ponds for as little as $10 a day ($5 seniors). We can provide space for events and entertainment for a small fee. ARRIVAL: Upon approving your reservation we'll send you a welcome message with information we need prior to your arrival to process your reservation, prepare for your arrival and provide you with check in information and accurate directions as gps apps to our location are often wrong. Please answer that initial email as soon as possible. We'll follow up with check in information and driving directions. Once in the gate, stay on the driveway and meet us on the patio with the blue shade sails. We will provide you with an approximately 15 minute orientation and tour, register you, check identification and show you to your campsite. Guests are required to fill out a liability waiver and a simple registration form. (See photos for copies of these forms.) OUR SPACE: Our land is 130 feet wide by an eighth of a mile deep in a residential neighborhood with lots 2.5-10 acres. We can see and hear our neighbors. We maintain a very quiet space but occasionally our neighbors have their own activities and events. Let us know if the neighborhood gets too noisy and we'll try to mitigate those situations. We can also provide free earplugs for those very rare occasions. Guests wanting a totally isolated experience may want to book elsewhere. DragonflyHill Desert Farm is a working farm in a wilderness area. Guests should check weather forecasts prior to arrival and assure that they have the right equipment. We have a moderate cancellation policy that allows guests to cancel 3 days prior to their arrival date to receive a refund. This allows enough time to check weather reports. There are occasional heavy rains and frequent high winds. It can get very hot in summer and reach freezing temperatures in winter. Despite our proximity to the freeway and nearby cities, and our location in a residential neighborhood, this is very much a wilderness area. DragonflyHill is not responsible for the weather. We are not a resort. Expect dry plants and patches during summer and into the fall. As a farm, we may be a bit more rustic than your typical farm to allow for shelter for local wildlife. Our cultivation methods encourage biodiversity and though we are growing food, many of our crops resemble landscaping or natural habitat rather than garden patches. Currently we have habitat viewing areas, an herb garden, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, a sheltered social distancing patio, an outdoor kitchen, meditation gardens, our (seasonal) mineral pool, community library, game boards and toys, and a tree bath. Plant varieties, wildlife and presentation may vary by season. Our farm specializes in herbs, fruit trees, desert and native plants, and edible flowers. We also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors. We cultivate community and share what we grow with our neighbors and our guests. Guests have shared access to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the orchards, gardens, patios, and grounds of the Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat, and (for safety reasons) limited access to the pool pond and spa -both unheated. The pool pond is filled with local mineral water from our own well. The pool pond is cleaned regularly & is chlorinated. The pool pond is not cleaned daily and is shared with wildlife. including bees and birds who drink water pool side. Debris from high winds and wildlife may contribute to the pool pond environment. Currently neither the pool pond nor the spa is heated. We also have wheelchair accessible hot water outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible porta potties. The pool area is accessible to guests year round but the pool itself is winterized and unavailable from mid October through mid to late April. We work hard to keep the home well maintained & clean; we're vigilant & do due diligence with professional quarterly visits from Truly Nolen 4 Season Pest Prevention (a green company.) We doubt you'll see any unwanted critters inside or near the house or other structures during your stay, but if you do, please advise us & we will promptly address the situation. DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat is in a remote area of the desert with lots of wildlife. To help us keep wildlife OUT of the house and campsites, please keep food out of reach of critters & clean up after every meal. We affirmatively welcome children, but as this is a working farm in a wilderness area, parents will need to be vigilant of their child's safety and activity while here. We are constantly adding activities and features for children and adults. We are child friendly and we are a good location for groups. (Just message us with your details and we can tailor your stay to meet your needs.) We have 1 cat and 1 service dog. Other guests may have pets or assistance animals. Neighbors have chickens, farm animals and pets. There are a few feral cats in the vicinity as well as a variety of desert wildlife. At night you can hear the coyotes though we’ve never seen them or their tracks on our land. Common sightings of road runners, rabbits, hares, lizards, snakes, hawks, doves, desert wrens, migrating ducks (in the Spring), scorpions, mantises, crickets, mockingbirds, insects and spiders. WHO WE ARE: DragonflyHill is a community of artisans, activists, craftspeople and farmers, working together to cultivate community, develop methodologies for living and working together in ever increasing paradigms of social justice and sustainability. We are a safe and sober space that is disability and LGBTQIA affirmative, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-imperialist and de-colonialist, because anything else is just a bandaid. Core values of our work include attention to detail, fine craftwork and cultivating community. Some members of the Dragonfly Team live on the premises at all times and will be here for the duration of your stay. The rest of the team are community members. All Team members work at DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat in different capacities, in cooperation and collaboration with each other. It should be noted that we are not a museum community and our collective is not on display. Only 2-3 members of the community are currently responsible for hosting guests. Community members are autonomous and, much of our community functions virtually. There are also occasional community events at the farm, including farming, though many activities are just coming back after the pandemic. We hope to offer activities in the Fall. All activities will continue to be held outdoors and social distancing is required. We speak: English and Spanish. We can communicate somewhat in French, Italian and Portuguese. DRAGONFLYHILL CONSEIRGE We love to hear about your travels and share our knowledge of our community and Southern California with our guests. Our library, located on the Blue Patio, offers children’s books, local history including indigenous history, farming and gardening, wildlife guides, hiking trails, entertainment and tourist attractions. We can recommend activities on and off site including places to go with children, local hiking, museums, restaurants and shopping. In addition to campsites, for additional fees, we offer reiki, a private jacuzzi hot water mineral bath, farm tours, firewood, tutoring, tax preparation, vehicle storage, event and space rental, and classes. Camp in your own tent, RV or camper under the starlit desert sky on our beautiful desert farm and wildlife habitat. While we have clearly marked campsites, there are no designated/assigned spaces in our listing on the Hipcamp platform. In this way we can tailor your location to your needs. (Do you want to be near bathrooms or away from other campers? Do you want to be near the main house? What type of space does your trailer need? Will you need electricity? etc). Spaces are adjacent to other spaces and approximately 40 feet wide. We are developing autonomous desert landscape gardens in each space and installing more windbreaks, shelters and privacy panels. Some spaces have fire pits, though during high winds and dry seasons, campfires are not allowed. Each campsite has its own water hook up. All sites have a water spigot with potable mineral water from our well and a lead free drinking hose. We do not offer black water waste disposal. Most sites have electricity options (for an additional fee), Most sites have tables. Chairs are available upon request. (They get blown away by the wind, otherwise.) Please have your profile completed with full verification and payment method with Hipcamp. Message us via the Hipcamp platform with an introductory inquiry and communicate with us throughout your trip planning process from reservation to departure. For an extra fee we can offer a 15/20amp hookup subject to availability. For an additional fee, pets are allowed at campsites. This is a desert farm & wildlife habitat in a rustic environment. Tent campers should be experienced campers with adequate equipment for windy, cold or hot conditions. Sites have little or no shade. Check in is any time after 4 PM on the day of your reservation. We require you provide us with a 2 hour window so we can be sure to be here when you arrive, register you, check ID and show you to your site. (If there are changes during your travels, just keep us posted.) Guest check out time is 12 noon; we need a few hours to clean & prepare the space between guests so if you need a much earlier check in, make your reservation to include the night before. Our cancellation policy is firm. Guests may cancel up to 3 days prior to check in. This provides guests with enough time to check the weather while giving us enough time to prepare and anticipate guests' needs. Guests are encouraged to take out travelers’ insurance in the case that their trip is interrupted, needs to be canceled shortly before the date of arrival or if weather may interfere with your plans. We also recommend that all guests/lodgers have either homeowners or renters insurance in case of a loss during their stay. Prices may vary by day & season. We do not offer discounts beyond what is stated in the price of the site, on the indicated date, with the exception of some online promotions. Home sharing is labor intensive & all members of the Dragonfly Team work very hard. We pay fair wages & provide excellent guest service, which we can't do for a lower price. Roma Vardo Caravan Extended Stay

The Vardo Caravan is a cozy Roma Vardo style trailer with its own garden, patio, entrance, parking space, refrigerator, and electricity. It is solar powered and has running water and a sink inside.The Vardo has its own private fire pit though during high winds and dry seasons, campfires are not allowed. There is a ceiling fan, cooling humidifier and a space heater. Other personal amenities including storage space, cleaning kits, misters and patio chairs, are provided. Vardo guests may cook outside at their campsite if they bring their own camping stoves. Common space facilities have disinfectant spray and are cleaned frequently. Currently the outside facilities are 150 feet from the Vardo, but we are working to make new accommodations closer. Photos of the Vardo were taken with a wide angle lens and the space may appear larger than it is. The interior, including the bed, measures 80 inches wide by 8.75 feet deep. The cot sized bed is 30 inches by 79 inches. No smoking inside the Vardo.Pets allowed with additional pet fee, pet owner interview and full and current pet vaccinations. Pets must be on a leash and with owners at all times. Long term guests may discuss exceptions to this rule, prior to arrival. Home sharing is labor intensive & all members of the Dragonfly Team work very hard. We pay fair wages & provide excellent guest service, which we can't do for a lower price. DISABILITY Access: Currently we can provide access for many disabilities but the Vardo is not WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. We hope to introduce other glamping options in the future. Our portapotties and outdoor showers are wheelchair accessible as are all of the patios and gardens. The outdoor showers have hand held shower heads & shower chairs and wide entrances. One of our showers provides grab bars and more than 5 feet turn around space. We do offer step free access to the natural mineral water filled pool pond but we do not have a lift or an access chair (yet). We use SCENT FREE PRODUCTS for the most part & can provide guests with a list of products. If you are sensitive to certain products, with enough notice we can halt the use of some of those products in anticipation of your arrival. Guests with disabilities are encouraged to discuss their particular needs with us to assure full accommodations, comfort & safety. Dragonflyhill’s property offers lots of amenities and places to camp in a tent or RV. We found the flat parking spots convenient and there is easy access to water. We did not partake of any of the facilities (e.g., grill, outdoor kitchen, outdoor pool, showers, porta potty, WiFi, grounds to sit, etc..) and except for using our own gas grill one night, used it as a convenient place to stay in our Class B camper van. It is a safe place to stay and relatively remote. Fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Convenient to all the towns/cities in the Coachella Valley. And unlike the other RV locations in the area, no one is really right next to you and looking into your rig. You don’t have to cover your windows. The spots are shaded. Be prepared to drive for a mile and a half along unpaved roads to get to their driveway. The roads are in good shape, graded, and hard packed but unpaved. More bumps on the way in than on the way out due to how the road is graded and the direction of the grooves. The cheapest gas station in the area (Maverick) is nearby. It seriously was $1/gallon less. The hosts have very specific guidelines so there are no misunderstandings and everyone feels safe and secure. Do not come here expecting a party. They border on over communicating, but are quick to respond, patient, and understanding. They really want you to enjoy yourselves and continually offer to be of assistance. Highly recommend staying at Dragonflyhill.

We had a great stay at this Hipcamp. It was super convenient to Palm Springs, but once we arrived it truly felt peaceful and remote—exactly what we were hoping for. The property is very well thought out, with little details that made the stay easy and comfortable. The hosts were excellent communicators: responsive, clear, and helpful. Overall, it was a perfect balance of accessibility and seclusion, and we’d absolutely stay here again.

The owners were very kind and thorough. It wasn’t right next to town but close enough. There was good potable water and a nice outside kitchen with a beautiful view of San Jacinto. Things are a little rustic and wabi sabi, but we didn’t mind. We even saw some dragon flies!

never felt more welcome. emma n andy truly there to assist u- with anything. its a rustic campground place yet more is there than u think (grills, charging device station, micro, toaster oven-etc). my hot showers were better than state park showers. don't dismiss this place because of looking too basic-rustic. world needs more emma n andy places.

A Gem in the Desert

We stayed at Dragonfly to celebrate our anniversary and it was perfect! The hosts were lovely and so responsive to any requests or questions. The site is adjacent to both Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. Great for some exploring in town. Though we're able to score one of the Jtree campsites on an earlier trip this year, we will be keeping this place in mind from here on out. We especially luxuriated in the outside kitchen and hot showers before bed (saved us from us having to pack our mobile shower setup) and the seclusion of the property, which thanks to the hosts’ efforts felt cozy rather than isolating. The onsite amenities were just as described and exceeded expectations! Everything on site is very clearly labeled and accessible. Our favorite part of our stay was the pool. It was so clean, relaxing, and a welcome reprieve from the heat. Guests should note that the pool is nice and deep at one end but has plenty of shallow parts. It's also a natural pool with some insects (dragonflies and bees) and reportedly the occasional mother duck with her ducklings though we didn’t see her on our trip. These things were a plus for us, but may require some extra planning or care for families with small children. I can see this property being excellent for all campers, whether you’re a solo traveler or family looking for a safe and magical place out of the city or are a couple like us looking for a romantic oasis getaway. We’ll certainly be returning!

Dragonfly Hill is such a cute little spot close to the desert communities near Joshua Tree. I wasn't able to use much of the facilities due to allergies that came up, so be sure to check the weather. Emma and Andy were so kind and accommodating to my needs and I look forward to visiting again.

Lovely little quiet spot about 20 minutes from Palm Springs. Spots were well kept, spacious and flat. Hosts Emma and Andy were very friendly and helpful. It does get hot there so be prepared. We made use of the large, well maintained pool to cool off (us and the new family of mama duck with her 8 ducklings 🐣). If you are looking for somewhere chilled, away from the crowds then this is for you.

We tented under a tree on this beautiful property. The setting was lovely, with gardening everywhere and wild bunnies at home there, too. The amenities were deluxe — the instant-on hot shower was stronger than ours at home and the outdoor kitchen was very 'mountain lodge,' with everything we might need. We loved the drive to the site, passing wind turbines and wild desert, and on two of our four nights we got a taste of wildness with the wind blowing. Talking with Andy was a pleasure.

I was very protected from the infant desert hot spot winds (hence all the wind turbines... Though fairly close to the main house I had privacy, access to water , showers within 15 feet and the pool also right there.. it was very comfortable tent camping there

Dragonflyhill is a very unique and developing property .. Emma and Andy have done a lot already to do their best to give each site a sense of privacy (which you know us campers and short term rental travelers know is much appreciated!) I've tent camped here for a week and have appreciated having a hot shower, protection from the constant winds , and live the surrounding desert.... Take a walk out towards the nearby turbines and you'll know what I mean) I'm a horticulturist and appreciate what they are developing in the way of specialty gardens!! The pool is beautiful but unfortunately it's been too chilly for me to enjoy it.. I have water(a big plus!) at my site but no electricity which is the usual for a campsite Because of the very treed and shrubbery properties here and around there's is much bird life to appreciate Very happy with the experience but note: Porta John and outdoor showers may be a downside for the inexperienced but experience says it's more (and cleaner) than you get most places! Wish I could have enjoyed the pool
