Ellyn's place was even more magical than we hoped. The desert landscapes were awe inspiring and the drive to get there was totally beautiful! Ellyn is an amazing host who balances a very friendly welcoming energy with respect for space and privacy if that is what you are looking for. We booked the added extras of a guided nature walk and a bubble workshop for our kids and they were both fantastic. Our three year old has been asking when we are going to see Ellyn again for days.

Dancing under the moon light!

The moment I saw Ellyn and Nimue again, I felt the positive energy of the camp in my soul. This camp makes me forget all my real life stress, real life logistics and problems instantly. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the campsite, the stars, the bonfire, night walks under the full moon light, dancing to latin tunes around the fire...it was simply magical and therapeutic to our souls. I cannot thank Ellyn enough for running a campsite as beautiful as this so remote in the desert. Ellyn has put in so much effort to making people happy. Very blessed to have met Ellyn and enjoyed this campsite.

Thank you to Ellyn for sharing such a special spot in the desert. The sink and bathroom setup made for a comfortable and pleasant stay in the hot desert. This camp spot was so unique and allowed us to fall asleep under shooting stars.

You want desert solitude?This is it

If you want solitude, this is it. This was my first time staying on private land, instead of a campground. There was no one around. I could hike in to the desert, and saw no people, no buildings, heard to cars. It was great. The owners 5 acres is up against Cleveland National Forest (which is desert, not forest, just to be clear). There was a cold front when I was there for 2 nights, and rain, so I opted to stay in one of her Airstreams instead of tent camping.

Peaceful desert retreat

Loved the wide open space in a remote location, the desert quiet, and the site setup with its shaded outdoor kitchen patio, fire ring near the trailer, and access to the shared shower and extra bathroom. Plus the retro style of the trailer mixed with the delightful desert landscaping on the property gave it all extra charm.

Our family had a fantastic weekend in the Avion in Ellyn’s corner of AB paradise. It’s a unique setup and the perfect base for enjoying the quiet clarity of the desert. Our kids ADORED Ellyn and her pup right off the bat, and spoke to us like expert interpreters after learning from her about the (utterly adorable) kangaroo rats and other wildlife in area. And I know I’ll exceed the character count if I even start to talk about the bubble magic, so you’ll just have to go experience that for yourself. :)

Glamping in the desert!

We loved glamping on Ellyn's land. The Silver Stream was in a great spot with great views of the desert and we felt like there was plenty of privacy even with other guests around. The bed was really comfy and cozy and our 2 girls got along perfectly fine with the small pull-out couch. We drove out from San Diego in our Tesla and was able to drive it to the mud caves across the road. It's a 5 mile drive through a wash. We also hiked on Ellyn's land up to picnic rock. Ellyn is a great host and we will definitely be back!

The desert is stunning. The area is so very quiet; void of the incessant noise of our everyday lives.This quiet beauty surrounding you fills you with peace & a sense of awe at the wonderment of nature. There are other people who have private residences in the area, but very few and they are far enough apart from each other that you cannot hear them, nor notice them unless you try. The drive into & out of the desert is just as stunning & awe-inspiring as being at camp on the desert floor. Do stop & take in the beauty. Ocotillo Wells off road vehicle riding area is a short 30 min drive to the south for those of you who want to enjoy both the peace & beauty of the desert as well as the fun that the desert affords. The Silver Streak RV has vintage charm that pairs perfectly with the rustic desert surrounding her. It was a great size for my son, our 2 dogs & myself, as it allowed us to be together, yet far enough apart to have our own space. We were very late arriving on our 1st night, yet Ellyn was so kind to assure us that all was still well. We were lucky to have her on location our entire trip and found her to be very good-hearted & available to answer any questions or concerns we had. Ellyn's place was beautiful and completely silent. We had everything we needed with the tables, sink, hose, and bathroom facilities. We also got the chance to hike in the wash near the site. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back next time we're in Borrego

The campsite is absolutely amazing! Ellyn is so sweet, and the location is perfect for exploring and star gazing. There are easy trails in all directions, so if you don’t want to drive anywhere you can still enjoy nature.

My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time celebrating Christmas here. Ellyn is a wonderful host and a fun woman! I highly recommend, if you’re looking for some of the creature comforts of home combined with the ability to camp. Also, you get to hang out in cool, vintage trailers!

Perfect glamping getaway

Ellyn is a phenomenal host! Her entire set up is perfect for anyone looking for an easy and fun “glamping” get away. The trailer provided is more than enough space, it is clean and cozy. She invited us to use her fire pit which was perfect for the chilly nights. The location itself is the perfect amount of isolated - far enough away from any towns so you can enjoy the quiet and take in the beautiful desert night sky. I am so happy I had the opportunity to stay with Ellyn truly a wonderful human and a wonderful host.

Fantastic desert getaway

I spent two and two nights on a solo retreat in the Gypsy Wagon, and my only regret is not staying another night. Ellen and John are wonderful hosts and the trailer was equipped with everything I needed (except a fridge, so bring a cooler). The trailer is the perfect size for 1-2 people with a back gate that opens so you can lounge on the incredibly comfortable bed (it's like a giant sponge!) while enjoying a beautiful desert view (and sunset). There is wi-fi too. The location is very close to a hot springs and Blair Valley, which is the starting point for the Pictographs and Morteros hikes that are well worth the time. I also really enjoyed just wandering around the sandy wash and taking in the blooming desert plants around the campsite. It's about a 90-minute drive to Borrego Springs and the Anza-Borrego Visitor's Center, so plan accordingly. Also, not a lot of opportunities to buy gas, so make sure you fuel up in Temecula or Borrego Springs. The camp is located in a very unique neighborhood, but it feels isolated enough so that you have privacy. I look forward to staying here again then next time I want to get away from my family.

Sleep under the stars!

What a slice of desert heaven! The space itself looks out onto a valley, meandering walks thru ocotillo forests and boulder washes are right at your hearth, and Ellyn is a fount of knowledge. Her energy is so warm and kind! Bring a sleeping pad and bag and sleep under the incredible light show of night sky. Ellyn has a huge umbrella to sit under and read during the warmer daylight hours and there is plenty of cool water to fill your pack before a brisk morning hike. Overall, a gem in the desert!

Second Great Visit

This was our second visit to Ellyn H’s Land and we enjoyed it so much we brought friends this time. We stayed in the Avion while our friends stayed in the Silver Streak. We all enjoyed the quiet of the desert, cooking on the campfire, and nightly star gazing. Ellyn’s place is amazing and she’s just a wonderful person and host. We will come back again.

Magical experience

My husband, our pup, and I stayed at Ellyn's Willow campsite this past weekend, and I must say, it was nothing short of a magical experience. Ellyn's warm and friendly accomodating nature really made us feel comfortable, and all the positive reviews about her are completely true. This campsite and trip reminded me how important deserts need to be in rotation in our list of destinations as star gazing was unparalleled. We also fell asleep (and at times woke up to) distant echos of coyotes singing hauntingly beautiful music. Lastly, Ellyn's enthusiasm to teach bubbleology was infectious and completely mind-blowing. We took away so much knowing how to use different wands and read the wind, but more than anything, we got to travel to our childhood during crazy unprecedented times. We hope to return with our son, Julian, one day, who was coincidentally named a week before the trip. Ellyn, if you see this, please say hello to John and Nimue from all three of us!

Sweet little desert oasis

Ellyn's little desert camp was the perfect place for my friend and I to stay during our weekend trip to Anza Borrego. The trailer had everything we needed, and the view from the deck was gorgeous. Though the trailer has its own bathroom, we ended up using the more spacious "communal" bathroom across the way and seemed to have it to ourselves the whole time. Ellyn is an amazing host; she provided really helpful directions prior to getting there and gave us an extra water bottle to use on a hike, but otherwise gave us our privacy. Will definitely be recommending this spot to friends in the future!
