This is a gorgeous 2.22 Acre property, just a stone's throw to the Petrified Forest National Park. The land is accessible via I-40 and is close to many amenities including: Camping Museums National Park Fishing Hunting Wineries Horseback Riding Apache is a county of contrasts, starting from the blue spruce and aspen-covered mountains near Alpine and Nutrioso, to the Greer Valley with the clear, cold waters of the Little Colorado River flowing northward to Round Valley and St. Johns. It's a country of long, pine-covered mesas, red sandstone cliffs, huge open valleys, and hidden canyons. The main population centers are Window Rock and Fort Defiance in the South, Ganado in the center, and Chinle in the north, with many small towns in between. Apache County is being discovered as a place rich in culture with many varied scenic, recreational, and travel opportunities.

Petrified Forest Camping Heaven

So this was a boondoggle for us. I could not tell from HipCamp that this site is within the boundary of the Petrified Forest National Park, and that it would be unaccessible after the gates closed at 5:30pm. I texted Alva via HipCamp twice, and mentioned our planned late arrival (after 6), but never got a response of any kind. Never got there, so Alva happily pocketed $20 for no effort.

Petrified Forest Camping Heaven

The place didn’t look like a campground, the grass was too high to set our tent on the field so we had to sleep in the car. It was not a bad experience but it was not what we were expecting so I would not specially recommend this place.
