Take a leisurely 23 mile drive from the small town of Amado to the property, winding through rolling grassland with the San Luis Mountains and Las Guijas Mountains in the distance. The drive is doable for all types of cars (I drive a Chevy Malibu and had no problem), however the roads are impassable after a flood so make sure to check the weather before your trip.
The drive from the highway to the property is straightforward, but do know that, since Arivaca is only 11 miles from the Mexican border, there is a border checkpoint you have to stop at when you leave. If you're traveling internationally make sure you have your passport.
Ebonny and Jim, the property managers, are so kind and helpful! They made me, my husband, and our two dogs feel at home in their cozy desert house-trailer. Arivaca offers plenty of things to-do, and Ebonny and Jim left pamphlets of info about many of those things on the kitchen table.
One of my favorites parts of this property is how pet-friendly it is. There is another dog on the property, Chica, who is super friendly. The house-trailer has a small gated area out front for pups to hang out in, allowing your furry friends to stretch their legs after a long car ride.
If you're looking to see a different side of Arizona away from the tourist traps, this is a great place to go.
