Savanna Moon is a 80-acre homestead in western Wisconsin. Our vision is to create a village island within a vibrant matrix of wildness. We seek to enliven our spirits, restore the health and resilience of the land, and live sustainably.
 
We are committed to preserving and restoring the unique plant and animal communities living in this Driftless region of the Midwest.  The land is hilly with ravines (coulees), a small spring-fed creek and is close to the Chippewa and Mississippi Rivers.  Nights are star-filled and deliciously quiet.

Enjoy the sweeping prairie and sunset views from your camping area.  We have a fire pit at each site for bonfires and there is a picnic table for cooking. Hike right from your tent onto 80 acres of prairie, woods and valley views. Lots of wildlife and wildflowers. Kayak the nearby Chippewa River. 

The campsites are located on a working homestead, complete with old farm house and gardens. Site 1, Bee Balm  is relatively close to the house, shower and toilet, and Site 2, Oak Grove is farther from the house and facilities, but still only about 40 yards from facilities. If you are camping with a trailer we will set you up in the Bee Balm site as there is more space and better access.

Fisher Cat Creek Forest Retreat

Four years ago, David and Veronica began designing and building structures in the 20 acre hardwood forest that Davids' father acquired back in 1969. Now they live there full time in an off-grid cabin with monthly seminars, campsites for rent and a passion for sharing the wonders of the forest.

Cordwood Writer's Cabin

You’ll never want to leave this relaxing cabin in Wisconsin’s famed driftless region. This unique and rustic cordwood oasis is truly one-of-a-kind! This is the perfect getaway, whether you’re a writer, artist, grad student or just eager for some peace and quiet, this property is for you! Take relaxing hikes through the peaceful forest, or walk across the road and visit our thriving organic herb farm. Situated in the gorgeous rolling hills of Buffalo County Wisconsin, it’s easy to get here from The Twin Cities, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Rochester and more. Experience the beauty and simplicity of Amish life! Stop by the quaint roadside organic produce stand, or take a dip in the Buffalo River.Two little cordwood masonry cabins, one for working and sleeping, the other for cooking and showering. The farm is a former Amish farm that's now a medicinal herb farm with grazing grass fed beef. It's also the Amish telephone booth.

Part of the property is used for cattle pasture.

Tucked in a valley among rolling hills just 70 miles east of St. Paul, discover a stunning sanctuary surrounded by hardwoods, pines and birch groves. Meander a walking trail system through 30 acres of woods and prairie. In 2019, all 10 acres of fields were planted as dedicated Monarch/pollinator habitat. This is a full sensory experience - spectacular celestial nights with serenading hoot owls, frogs, crickets and yips of coyotes in the distance. The honey bees are humming in their boxes, rooster crowing and chickens do their daily forage through the yard and woods. This is a birder's delight with turkey and deer being very common sightings.

Our unique greenhouse and pergola are common use areas for all guests to enjoy. The pergola is a large cushioned area providing shade to read a book, charge a device, play cards, enjoy a beverage, eat a meal. Explore the greenhouse production of tomatoes, peppers, and ginger growing along with flowers and other hothouse varieties.  Fill water containers, or use the large stainless steel sink and countertops to prep meals or wash up.  You will also find a beverage service counter, yard games for use, and any on-farm items for sale in this area- firewood, plants, eggs, honey and produce. Tucked discreetly behind the greenhouse is drop-off for garbage and recycling, and also 1 of 2 ultra clean port-a-potties found on property.  

*** We're family friendly! Adult occupancy is applied to 12 years and older. There is no occupancy charge/limit for children 11 years of age or under. ***

We have 6 sites to offer. Providing a historical backdrop is our guest house - a fully restored Norwegian cabin built in 1894 (completed July 2022).  Adjacent to the greenhouse is 2 RV (or tent) sites with full water and 30 amp hookups. 2 additional sites accommodate RVs or tents and we have 1 walk-in tent site. This rustic site is the most private  - a short distance into the woods behind the greenhouse. Our campground will close Oct 29. 

Don't let our sleepy little town deceive you. The locals have huge hearts - are generous creatives, with ingenious businesses that spill over with hospitality. Uber local is 2 Amish businesses within a 15 minute walk - a bakery and a woodworking shop! We're happy to direct you to on-farm meat sales, herbal medicinals, goat milk products, home goods, local microbreweries and quilt shop to name a few. Local town events draw huge crowds with live music and fun for all ages.
