Iron Mountain Ranch

This cozy, partially screened guest hut is situated on 200 sweeping acres of pastureland and steep, rolling hillsides. Floor to ceiling windows on the west side allow for a gorgeous view of the mountains and the lovely night sky.   Composting toilet and hot water shower with equally impressive views. Enjoy the view, hike, bike, horseback ride, relax by the creek, swim the Columbia or Kettle River and fish Elbow Lake.  So much to do and all super close or actually on the property! Hut is 100% off grid

Iron Mountain Ranch features the owner's hand built straw bale house which is run off solar power, a friendly herd of horses along with a few cats and three dogs. (look up the ranch social media accounts online for additional pictures). 

Since this hut is built with partially screened walls and partial solid walls, you should consider the season when requesting a booking.  I will accept bookings starting on May 1st but even in May the night time temps can be cold.  Checking the local Northport, WA weather forecast can give you an idea of what weather we will be expecting.  Please consider this luxurious tent camping as there is no heat source in the hut, no electricity or running water.  Please bring lanterns, flashlights, headlamps etc.

The futon is a queen size and I can provide sheets and bedding but prefer you bring your own if possible as we have no laundry facilities on the ranch.

***There is a very limited supply of potable water on the property so you are required to pack in your drinking and cooking water.  Washing and shower water is provided.***

In the early spring and late fall we cover the screened walls of the hut with clear window plastic so that the nights are not very cold inside the screen house. We provide a propane buddy heater that is safe for indoor use to help keep the space warm for you!! 

Utilize the unique composting toilet, our own design which became the first approved toilet of it's kind in the county.  A hot water shower with equally impressive views is close to the straw house but still as private as you need it to be.

Once owned by the Lael family (whom the road is named after), this land supported lots of horses in it's past. The Lael family homsteaded this area, raising horses on their acerage and the original Lael house is still standing on the lower section of the property. Old and beautiful apple, plum, cherry and pear trees still thrive in the orchard they planted along with massive willow trees. I'm honored to continue the Lael's love for the equine with my own herd of horses.

Horseback riding is available upon request and for an additional fee of $75 per person for a ride.

The big meadow at the back has many possibilities for tucking a camp into the trees or bigger groups out in the open, as a base area for further exploring. Pictures were taken at the end of summer, so it is dry, fall colors. Every season has it's colors!

Trumpkinland from Narnia

Trumpkinland Farm is part of what used to be an old dairy owned by one of the original settlers in this area. It is set in a rolling valley, surrounded by hills, mountains, and heavy forest. It is once again a dairy, with a name hearkening to Narnia, the books by C. S. Lewis. It is also, however, now a  smallish family sized farm with many other species added to the mix. I raise a rare breed of dairy cow and several breeds of fiber sheep along with 
heritage pigs. Geese wander freely, along with a few turkeys. If you enjoy animals, there are many kinds of them here and most are friendly!

First, about my farm name:  My daughter had been reading The Chronicles of Narnia when we befriended and helped an orphaned little fawn, and she immediately named it Trumpkin, after one of the characters in Narnia. This is where her Trumpkin lived and grew up, and so this became Trumpkin's land AKA Trumpkinland Farm.  Over the years a number of deer have come to trust us enough to get relatively close and eat with our animals.  Come camp with your tent or self contained RV in our private woods or meadows and enjoy our wild and domestic friends, too, in the beautiful, magical inland northwest!  

You can have total privacy, and yet be a short walk from the main farm and a short drive to local natural attractions. There are trails to explore in almost all directions. Some camping sites can be driven to, primarily in the upper meadow, depending on your vehicle. If choosing to be deeper in the woods,  tent camping will work best in most spots, with a carry it in and park either in the meadow or down by the farm proper.
If you are tent camping, don't forget a good pad under your sleeping bag! The ground is hard, uneven, and in some places rocky!

As this property is also a farm, if you run short of food supplies, or want to buy some of what is produced right here on the farm, there are many options for that! From the gardens to wild fruit foraging, farms are all about food. 

Farms, camping, and the woods are also about relaxing. In this cannabis friendly state, if you choose to really RELAX, please relax respectfully.

With fiber animals in residence, handcrafted socks, sheepskins and an assortment of hand spun gift items are available for purchase. Periodically classes are offered on old time crafts; let us know your interests when you book your time with us.

The road to the back of the property is great for an easy stroll or a drive, with many smaller trails leading off of it.

This is the gate on the far side of my sheep pasture that leads up into the woods, where a lot of the camping areas are. Let's take a walk up the road and see what the possibilities are.

We often get visitors of all kinds. This was taken right at the edge of my pasture.

Across this pasture is a patch of woods ideal for camping. One could pick what ever spot appeals to them.

Most vehicles can handle this rustic road during most seasons of the year. A low riding fancy car might do better left on the flat land.

Any of the areas off the road big enough for your camp space needs are acceptable. Some people might like being nestled into the thicker trees, some out in the open entirely, or some on an open spot backed into a treed area. The choices are yours.

Notice all the close and distant forest covered hills and mountains to explore!

One of the shady tree lined trails available.. Too narrow to drive, but one could camp in an open area along side trails like this if supplies were carried in. 

Cabin in the woods

There was originally a camper parked here with a roof over it while the main house was built back in th 1970s. When the home was finished the camper was moved out and it was turned into the cabin. It originally had a wood stove but it was always to hot so we replaced it with an electric heater and at the same time remodeled the interior. It is very comfortable for two to three people as it only has the bunk beds. Additional bedding can be furnished when needed. Included in cabin is a frig, microwave, small closet and dining table with 4 chairs. And a cabinet with pots, pans and silverware for your convenience.Learn more about this land:Country cabin on the treeline at the base of O'tool mt. Across the street from Lk. Roosevelt. Includes bunk beds, frig, microwave, hot plate, coffee pot, toaster, dining table, small closet, firepit with firewood and horseshoe pits with shoes.  One mile to boat launch. Ten miles to nearest loaf of bread. Close to logging roads. you will have aprox. one acre to yourself. Quiet and secluded, but we are close by if ever there is anything you need.
