Hackberry Campground

If you’re looking for a central spot in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Hackberry Campground is the place to be

Finding washouts and secret caves became some of the best moments of the trip

Snapping the frost off the fly in the morning.

There are a handful of tent sites on the Hackberry loop. The grass is nearly entirely sticker burrs though!

There are at least a couple of good hammock trees in each Hackberry tent site.

A cold front blew in later that evening and the wind howled through the canyon all night. A perfect windy, clear and starry night at Fortress Cliff. I recommend pairing this site with a Black Butte Porter. 

Fortress Cliff Campground

Fortress Cliff Campground is a set of 18 tent-only sites on the southern end of the park, near the equestrian campground, and over 10+ miles of trail

Wish my camera was able to capture the stars in the sky that night. Unreal. 

North Prong Primitive Campground

Stunning scenic overlooks and flush toilets - these are the two major amenities of these grounds located at just off the Canyon Loop Trail

South Prong Primitive Campground

1.25 miles west of the South Prong Tented grounds, the primitive camping is for the true rough and tough adventurers out there

South Prong Tent Campground

Just north of the South Prong River, you’ll want to watch how far you stray from these campgrounds because you might stumble onto private property and get chased down by a group of vicious, rabid dogs

Little Red Tent Campground

10 individual sites situated at the junction between the Little Red and the South Prong rivers, these grounds are very spacious, scenic and widely considered some of the best spots around at Caprock Canyon

The sites overlook the beautiful Canadian River breaks to the north with wide open skies to the west and east to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. These are rustic sites with no improvements. We are just getting started with this so you’ll be able to help us from the ground up. If we are not in a burn ban you’re welcome to have a campfire. There will be opportunities to call up a wild coyote or watch some mule deer or an occasional antelope stroll by. You could even be awakened by the horses on their way to water in the morning and we can set up some horse riding if we have enough notice to schedule time off from the 9-5 haha. Can’t wait to see you on the prairie!

Mariposa Community Land Trust

Mariposa a land trust and non profit organization set for sustainable development.
Founded in the 90s, Mariposa is an old quarry that once was used for soil grading, caliche mining. 
** there is potable well access and a toilet available at the community center. We have a dumpster here as well. 

Park your RV off the road to accommodate your rig. Currently no hookups. Our primitive tent camping spaces are spread out for added privacy.  Camp where you feel most comfortable. 
 When  you camp at Mariposa you have privacy and great views of the plains.

Walk the main top areas and down the road to get a scope of the outdoors.
Currently there is significant construction on ssl 335 to the property.

The Silos RV Park & Campground

Water, electricity, free WiFi, picnic tables and large trash container at each site! Perfect home base for your Palo Duro Canyon State Park adventure and exploring everything else the Canyon/Amarillo, Texas area have to offer. There are 2 private shower rooms for your use and also a coinless laundry facility that can be booked online for your convenience. There is also a storm shelter onsite.

Your RV site is located in the country where you have unobstructed views of the spectacular sunrises and sunsets the Panhandle of Texas is known for. It's also a perfect place to stargaze since it's away from the City lights.

Also available to rent on the property is a cabin room, 5th wheel (stationary) and large guest home (through Airbnb on our website)

ACCESSIBILITY: Located off Interstate 40 and Highway 70, entrance to Schaffer Farm is at Highway 70 with Texas Flag right at the entrance.  Our farm roads are not paved and is up to guest discretion as to whether your rig has sufficient clearance to make it in. If you have concerns please contact us for a road condition update, as ease of access can change with the weather. 

WEATHER:  Accommodations during snow and rain will be monitored and travelers will be notified of alternate routes or alternate place to stay.
