Great peaceful area. Gorgeous spot on the Medina River. The water is a little cold this time of year (Jan) so we didn't swim but, our pup did, & loved it. We saw deer, turkey, & an Axis deer. Lovely area to relax for sure.

This spot is absolutely breathtaking. We went in January so it was fairly quiet, however, we can’t wait to go back when it’s warmer! Having access to the river like this is unmatched. Beautiful grounds, secure in and out access, nicely updated amenities! Can’t recommend enough!

Weekend Trip to Sparrow Bend River Retreat
Tent camping here was amazing. Very close to the river and beautiful views all around. The property wasn’t littered with trash and the bathrooms and showers were well maintained. I have zero complaints with Sparrows Bend, planning another trip already!

We had a wonderful stay at Sparrow Bend River Retreat. The property looked exactly as advertised — the photos were spot on. The walk from our RV spot to the Medina River was short and easy, and the river itself was absolutely beautiful, with crystal-clear water. Seeing deer on the property and enjoying the peaceful setting made it a perfect place to slow down, recharge, and get some fresh air.
The sunsets were stunning, and the entire area felt calm and rejuvenating. Everything was very clean, and we appreciated the locked gate, which made it feel like a safe place to leave our off-grid trailer while we explored Kerrville.
Angela was fantastic to communicate with — responsive, helpful, and great to deal with. The only minor downsides were some dogs barking nearby, but once we mentioned it to Angela, the neighbor’s dogs quieted down. Honestly, it still beats train or highway noise any day. The hot water for showers didn’t last very long, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker.
Overall, this is a beautiful, peaceful retreat that we’d happily return to when we’re looking for rest, nature, and quiet time by the river.

Haven’t been camping in ages and found this place that was not too far away. Beat decision EVER. Site was semi-quiet, clean, bathroom/showers were close and clean. Other amenities were nice and easy to understand. We’re planning another trip there in the future.

2 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat
My fiance and I enjoyed our two night stay at the Scamp! The Scamp is located on a beautiful camping resort on the Medina River!
The Scamp is tucked away underneath Juniper trees away from the other campers and we enjoyed the privacy. The Scamp had everything we needed for cooking, dish washing, and coffee in the morning.
The Scamp was clean and comfortable for the two of us. The outdoor refrigerator could have been cleaner and the outdoor furniture appeared to be dog friendly, but this didn’t lessen the enjoyment of our stay.
Restroom and shower facilities are a very short walk from the scamp and were clean.
Short walk down to the beautiful Medina River where we enjoyed a float on our SUP and a swim in the crystal clesr water. You can rent tubes and kayaks if needed.
Firewood was available to purchase conveniently on Cash app or Venmo, however we did camp during a Red Flag warning so we couldn’t have a camp fire. (County order and not Sparrow Bend Resort rule)
Charcoal grill and charcoal provided for grilling and propane stove in the Scamp.
We would highly recommend The Scamp for a couples getaway!

My fiance and I stayed in Forest 2, it was our first time camping and we loved it. The spot was secluded and felt quiet, not far from the restrooms either. Deer would occasionally be around the site at night time while we slept, we didn't mind, but recommended to have food stored away properly and have the trash thrown. We also went fishing by the river and saw some nice fish, the water was nice and clear. Overall awesome experience.

Amazing hidden gem on a beautiful river!!! Great facilities and accommodations. We stayed at Forest 2 secluded camp spot. The camp was full while we were there with about 90% occupancy but we still felt pretty secluded. River access is unbeatable.
Some local stores nearby and close to Bandera for restaurants and shopping. Would definitely return.
